Genesis 24
1 And Abraham he was old he had come in days and Yahweh he had blessed Abraham in everything.
Als nun Abraham alt und hochbetagt geworden war und der HERR ihn in allem gesegnet hatte,
2 And he said Abraham to servant his old of household his who was ruling over all that [belonged] to him put please hand your under thigh my.
sagte Abraham zu dem ältesten Knechte seines Hauses, der seinen gesamten Besitz zu verwalten hatte: »Lege deine Hand unter meine Hüfte:
3 So I may make swear you by Yahweh [the] God of the heavens and [the] God of the earth that not you will take a wife for son my from [the] daughters of the Canaanite[s] whom I [am] dwelling in midst its.
ich will dir beim HERRN, dem Gott des Himmels und dem Gott der Erde, einen Eid abnehmen, daß du für meinen Sohn keine Frau aus den Töchtern der Kanaanäer nehmen willst, unter denen ich hier wohne;
4 For to land my and to kindred my you will go and you will take a wife for son my for Isaac.
nein, du sollst in mein Vaterland und zu meiner Verwandtschaft gehen und dort um eine Frau für meinen Sohn Isaak werben!«
5 And he said to him the servant perhaps not she will be willing the woman to go after me to the land this ¿ really will I take back son your to the land where you came out from there.
Da antwortete ihm der Knecht: »Vielleicht wird das Weib mir in dieses Land nicht folgen wollen; soll ich alsdann deinen Sohn wieder in das Land zurückführen, aus dem du ausgewandert bist?«
6 And he said to him Abraham take heed to yourself lest you should take back son my there towards.
Abraham antwortete ihm: »Hüte dich wohl, meinen Sohn dorthin zurückzuführen!
7 Yahweh - [the] God of the heavens who he took me from [the] household of father my and from [the] land of kindred my and who he spoke to me and who he swore an oath to me saying to offspring your I will give the land this he he will send angel his before you and you will take a wife for son my from there.
Der HERR, der Gott des Himmels, der mich aus meines Vaters Hause und aus meinem Heimatlande weggeführt und der mir zugesagt und mir zugeschworen hat: ›Deinen Nachkommen will ich dieses Land geben‹ – der wird seinen Engel vor dir her senden, so daß du von dort eine Frau für meinen Sohn gewinnst.
8 And if not she will be willing the woman to go after you and you will be free from oath my this only son my not you must take back there towards.
Wenn das Weib dir aber nicht folgen will, so sollst du von diesem mir geleisteten Eide entbunden sein; nur darfst du meinen Sohn nicht dorthin zurückführen!«
9 And he put the servant hand his under [the] thigh of Abraham master his and he swore an oath to him on the matter this.
Da legte der Knecht seine Hand seinem Herrn Abraham unter die Hüfte und leistete ihm in dieser Sache den verlangten Eid.
10 And he took the servant ten camels from [the] camels of master his and he went and every good thing of master his [was] in hand his and he arose and he went to Aram Naharaim to [the] city of Nahor.
Hierauf nahm der Knecht zehn Kamele von den Kamelen seines Herrn und allerlei Kostbarkeiten seines Herrn zu sich, machte sich auf den Weg und zog nach Mesopotamien nach der Stadt Nahors (Haran).
11 And he made kneel the camels from [the] outside of the city to [the] well of the water to [the] time of evening to [the] time of [the] going out of the [women who] draw water.
Dort ließ er die Kamele draußen vor der Stadt bei dem Wasserbrunnen sich lagern zur Abendzeit, zu der Zeit, wo die Frauen herauszukommen pflegen, um Wasser zu holen.
12 And he said - O Yahweh [the] God of master my Abraham make happen please before me this day and do covenant loyalty with master my Abraham.
Dann betete er: »O HERR, du Gott meines Herrn Abraham! Laß es mir doch heute glücken und erweise meinem Herrn Abraham Gnade!
13 Here! I [am] standing at [the] spring of the water and [the] daughters of [the] people of the city [are] coming out to draw water.
Siehe, ich stehe jetzt hier bei der Quelle, und die Töchter der Stadtbewohner werden herauskommen, um Wasser zu holen.
14 And it will be the young woman whom I will say to her bend down please jar your so I may drink and she will say drink and also camels your I will give a drink to her you have appointed for servant your for Isaac and by it I will know that you have done covenant loyalty with master my.
Wenn ich nun zu einem Mädchen sage: ›Neige, bitte, deinen Krug, damit ich trinke!‹ und sie mir dann antwortet: ›Trinke! Und auch deinen Kamelen will ich zu trinken geben!‹, so möge diese es sein, die du für deinen Knecht Isaak bestimmt hast; und daran will ich erkennen, daß du meinem Herrn Gnade erwiesen hast.«
15 And it was he not yet he had finished to speak and there! Rebekah [was] coming out who she had been born to Bethuel [the] son of Milcah [the] wife of Nahor [the] brother of Abraham and jar her [was] on shoulder her.
Er hatte noch nicht zu Ende geredet, da kam schon Rebekka heraus, die Tochter Bethuels, der ein Sohn der Milka, der Frau Nahors, des Bruders Abrahams, war; sie trug ihren Krug auf der Schulter.
16 And the young woman [was] good of appearance exceedingly a virgin and a man not he had known her and she went down the spring towards and she filled jar her and she came up.
Das Mädchen war von großer Schönheit und noch unverheiratet, eine Jungfrau; sie stieg zur Quelle hinab, füllte ihren Krug und kam wieder herauf.
17 And he ran the servant to meet her and he said give to drink me please a little of water from jar your.
Da eilte der Knecht auf sie zu und sagte: »Laß mich doch ein wenig Wasser aus deinem Kruge trinken!«
18 And she said drink O lord my and she hurried and she put down jar her on hand her and she gave a drink him.
Sie antwortete: »Trinke, Herr!« und ließ sogleich ihren Krug (von der Schulter) auf ihre Hand herab und ließ ihn trinken.
19 And she finished to give a drink him and she said also for camels your I will draw water until they have finished to drink.
Als sie aber seinen Durst gestillt hatte, sagte sie: »Auch für deine Kamele will ich Wasser schöpfen, bis sie sich satt getrunken haben.«
20 And she hurried and she emptied jar her into the watering channel and she ran again to the well to draw water and she drew water for all camels his.
Mit diesen Worten goß sie ihren Krug eilends in die Tränkrinne aus, lief dann nochmals zum Brunnen, um Wasser zu schöpfen, und schöpfte so für alle seine Kamele,
21 And the man [was] gazing to her being silent to know ¿ had he made successful Yahweh journey his or? not.
während jener ihr verwundert zusah, ohne jedoch ein Wort zu sagen, um zu erkennen, ob der HERR Glück zu seiner Reise gegeben habe oder nicht.
22 And it was just as they had finished the camels to drink and he took the man a ring of gold [was] a beka weight its and two bracelets on hands her [was] ten of gold weight their.
Als nun die Kamele sich satt getrunken hatten, nahm der Mann einen goldenen Nasenring, einen halben Schekel schwer, und zwei Spangen für ihre Arme, zehn Schekel Goldes schwer,
23 And he said daughter of whom? [are] you tell please to me ¿ [is] there [the] house of father your room for us to stay [the] night.
und fragte sie: »Wessen Tochter bist du? Teile es mir doch mit! Ist wohl im Hause deines Vaters Platz für uns zum Übernachten?«
24 And she said to him [am] [the] daughter of Bethuel I [the] son of Milcah whom she bore to Nahor.
Sie antwortete ihm: »Ich bin die Tochter Bethuels, des Sohnes der Milka, den sie dem Nahor geboren hat.«
25 And she said to him both straw as well as fodder much which [is] with us also room to stay [the] night.
Dann fuhr sie fort: »Sowohl Stroh als auch Futter haben wir in Menge und auch Platz zum Übernachten.«
26 And he bowed low the man and he bowed down to Yahweh.
Da verneigte sich der Mann, warf sich vor dem HERRN nieder
27 And he said [be] blessed Yahweh [the] God of master my Abraham who not he has left covenant loyalty his and faithfulness his from with master my I on the journey he has led me Yahweh [the] house of [the] relatives of master my.
und rief aus: »Gepriesen sei der HERR, der Gott meines Herrn Abraham, der seine Güte und Treue meinem Herrn nicht entzogen hat! Gerades Weges zum Hause des Verwandten meines Herrn hat mich der Ewige geführt!«
28 And she ran the young woman and she told to [the] household of mother her according to the things these.
Das Mädchen aber war unterdessen hingelaufen und hatte im Hause ihrer Mutter alles erzählt, was sich zugetragen hatte.
29 And [belonged] to Rebekah a brother and name his [was] Laban and he ran Laban to the man the outside towards to the spring.
Nun hatte Rebekka einen Bruder namens Laban; dieser eilte zu dem Manne hinaus an die Quelle.
30 And it was - when saw the ring and the bracelets on [the] hands of sister his and just as heard he [the] words of Rebekah sister his saying thus he spoke to me the man and he went to the man and there! [he was] standing with the camels at the spring.
Sobald er nämlich den Nasenring und die Spangen an den Armen seiner Schwester erblickt und seine Schwester Rebekka hatte erzählen hören, was der Mann zu ihr gesagt habe, ging er zu dem Manne hinaus, der immer noch bei den Kamelen an der Quelle stand.
31 And he said come O [one] blessed of Yahweh why? are you standing on the outside and I I have made clear the house and a place for the camels.
Er sagte nun zu ihm: »Komm in mein Haus, du Gesegneter des HERRN! Warum stehst du hier draußen? Ich habe das Haus schon aufräumen lassen und Platz für die Kamele geschafft!«
32 And he went the man the house towards and he unharnessed the camels and he gave straw and fodder to the camels and water to wash feet his and [the] feet of the men who [were] with him.
So kam denn der Mann in das Haus; dort zäumte Laban die Kamele ab, gab ihnen Stroh und Futter und brachte ihm sowie den Leuten, die bei ihm waren, Wasser zum Waschen der Füße.
33 (And it was put *Q(K)*) before him to eat and he said not I will eat until I have spoken words my and he said speak.
Als man ihm aber zu essen vorsetzte, sagte er: »Ich werde nicht eher essen, als bis ich meine Sache vorgetragen habe.« Jener erwiderte: »So rede!«
34 And he said [am] [the] servant of Abraham I.
Da berichtete er: »Ich bin ein Knecht Abrahams.
35 And Yahweh he has blessed master my exceedingly and he has become great and he has given to him sheep and cattle and silver and gold and [male] servants and female servants and camels and donkeys.
Gott der HERR hat meinen Herrn außerordentlich gesegnet, so daß er reich geworden ist; denn er hat ihm Kleinvieh und Rinder, Silber und Gold, Knechte und Mägde, Kamele und Esel gegeben.
36 And she has borne Sarah [the] wife of master my a son to master my after old age her and he has given to him all that [belongs] to him.
Dazu hat Sara, die Frau meines Herrn, ihm noch in ihrem Alter einen Sohn geboren; dem hat er alles übergeben, was er besitzt.
37 And he made swear an oath me master my saying not (you must take *LA(bh)*) a wife for son my from [the] daughters of the Canaanite[s] whom I [am] dwelling in land its.
Nun hat mein Herr mir folgenden Eid abgenommen: ›Du darfst meinem Sohne keine Frau aus den Töchtern der Kanaanäer nehmen, in deren Lande ich wohne,
38 If not to [the] house of father my you will go and to family my and you will take a wife for son my.
sondern sollst zu meines Vaters Hause und zu meiner Verwandtschaft ziehen, um für meinen Sohn dort eine Frau zu nehmen.‹
39 And I said to master my perhaps not she will go the woman after me.
Ich entgegnete meinem Herrn: ›Vielleicht wird das Weib mir nicht folgen wollen.‹
40 And he said to me Yahweh whom I have walked about before him he will send angel his with you and he will make successful journey your and you will take a wife for son my from family my and from [the] household of father my.
Da erwiderte er mir: ›Gott der HERR, vor dessen Angesicht ich gewandelt bin, wird seinen Engel mit dir senden und dir Glück zu deiner Reise geben, damit du für meinen Sohn eine Frau aus meiner Verwandtschaft, und zwar aus dem Hause meines Vaters, gewinnst.
41 Then you will be free from oath my for you will go to family my and if not they will give [her] to you and you will be free from oath my.
Dann sollst du von dem mir geleisteten Eid entbunden sein, wenn du zu meiner Verwandtschaft kommst und man sie dir dort nicht geben will – dann bist du von dem mir geleisteten Eid entbunden.‹
42 And I came this day to the spring and I said O Yahweh [the] God of master my Abraham if [are] there you please [are] making successful journey my which I [am] going on it.
Nun bin ich heute zu der Quelle gekommen und habe gebetet: ›O HERR, du Gott meines Herrn Abraham! wenn du doch Glück zu der Reise geben möchtest, auf der ich mich jetzt befinde!
43 Here! I [am] standing at [the] spring of the water and it will be the young woman who will come out to draw water and I will say to her give to drink me please a little of water from jar your.
Siehe, ich stehe jetzt hier an der Quelle. Laß es doch geschehen, daß das Mädchen, das herauskommt, um Wasser zu holen, und zu der ich sage: Gib mir, bitte, ein wenig Wasser aus deinem Kruge zu trinken!,
44 And she will say to me both you drink and also for camels your I will draw water she [be] the woman whom he has appointed Yahweh for [the] son of master my.
daß die mir dann antwortet: Trinke du selbst, und auch für deine Kamele will ich Wasser schöpfen! – so möge diese es sein, die Gott der HERR dem Sohne meines Herrn zur Frau bestimmt hat!‹
45 I not yet I had finished to speak to heart my and there! Rebekah [was] coming out and jar her [was] on shoulder her and she went down the spring towards and she drew water and I said to her give a drink me please.
Ich hatte dieses bei mir noch nicht zu Ende geredet, da kam auch schon Rebekka aus dem Orte heraus mit ihrem Kruge auf ihrer Schulter; sie stieg zur Quelle hinab und schöpfte Wasser. Da bat ich sie: ›Gib mir, bitte, zu trinken!‹
46 And she hurried and she put down jar her from on her and she said drink and also camels your I will give a drink to and I drank and also the camels she gave a drink.
Sogleich ließ sie ihren Krug (von der Schulter) herab und sagte: ›Trinke, und auch deinen Kamelen will ich zu trinken geben!‹ Da trank ich, und sie tränkte dann auch die Kamele.
47 And I asked her and I said daughter of whom? [are] you and she said [the] daughter of Bethuel [the] son of Nahor whom she bore to him Milcah and I put the ring on nose her and the bracelets on hands her.
Hierauf fragte ich sie, wessen Tochter sie sei, und sie antwortete: ›Die Tochter Bethuels, des Sohnes Nahors, den Milka ihm geboren hat.‹ Da legte ich ihr den Ring an die Nase und die Spangen an ihre Arme;
48 And I bowed low and I bowed down to Yahweh and I blessed Yahweh [the] God of master my Abraham who he had led me in [the] way of truth to take [the] daughter of [the] brother of master my for son his.
dann verneigte ich mich vor Gott dem HERRN, warf mich vor ihm nieder und pries den HERRN, den Gott meines Herrn Abraham, der mich den rechten Weg geführt hatte, um die Tochter des Verwandten meines Herrn für seinen Sohn zu gewinnen.
49 And now if [are] there you doing loyalty and faithfulness with master my tell to me and if not tell to me so I may turn to right or to left.
Und nun, wenn ihr meinem Herrn Liebe und Treue erweisen wollt, so sagt es mir! Wo nicht, so sagt es mir auch, damit ich mich zur Rechten oder zur Linken wende!«
50 And he answered Laban and Bethuel and they said from Yahweh it has come out the matter not we are able to speak to you evil or good.
Da antworteten Laban und Bethuel: »Von Gott dem HERRN ist dies ausgegangen: wir können dir nichts dazu sagen, weder ja noch nein.
51 Here! Rebekah [is] before you take [her] and go so may she be a wife for [the] son of master your just as he has spoken Yahweh.
Rebekka steht dir zur Verfügung: nimm sie und ziehe hin, damit sie die Frau des Sohnes deines Herrn wird, wie Gott der HERR es bestimmt hat!«
52 And it was just as he heard [the] servant of Abraham words their and he bowed down [the] ground towards to Yahweh.
Sobald der Knecht Abrahams diese ihre Worte gehört hatte, verbeugte er sich vor Gott dem HERRN bis auf die Erde;
53 And he brought out the servant articles of silver and articles of gold and garments and he gave [them] to Rebekah and precious gifts he gave to brother her and to mother her.
dann holte er silberne und goldene Geräte und Gewänder hervor und schenkte sie der Rebekka; auch ihrem Bruder und ihrer Mutter schenkte er Kostbarkeiten.
54 And they ate and they drank he and the men who [were] with him and they stayed [the] night and they arose in the morning and he said send away me to master my.
Dann aßen und tranken sie, er und die Leute, die bei ihm waren, und blieben über Nacht da. Am andern Morgen aber, als sie aufgestanden waren, sagte er: »Laßt mich nun zu meinem Herrn ziehen!«
55 And he said brother her and mother her let her remain the young woman with us days or ten (after *L(S)*) she will go.
Da erwiderten ihm ihr Bruder und ihre Mutter: »Laß doch das Mädchen noch einige Zeit oder (wenigstens) zehn Tage bei uns bleiben, dann magst du aufbrechen.«
56 And he said to them may not you delay me and Yahweh he has made successful journey my send away me so let me go to master my.
Doch er entgegnete ihnen: »Haltet mich nicht auf! Da Gott der HERR Glück zu meiner Reise gegeben hat, so laßt mich nun ziehen, damit ich zu meinem Herrn zurückkehre.«
57 And they said let us summon the young woman and let us ask mouth her.
Da sagten sie: »Wir wollen das Mädchen rufen und sie selbst entscheiden lassen.«
58 And they summoned Rebekah and they said to her ¿ will you go with the man this and she said I will go.
So riefen sie denn Rebekka und fragten sie: »Willst du mit diesem Manne ziehen?« Sie antwortete: »Ja, ich will mit ihm ziehen.«
59 And they sent away Rebekah sister their and suckling-nurse her and [the] servant of Abraham and men his.
Da ließen sie ihre Schwester Rebekka samt ihrer Amme und ebenso den Knecht Abrahams samt seinen Leuten ziehen
60 And they blessed Rebekah and they said to her O sister our you become thousands of ten thousand so may it take possession of offspring your [the] gate of [those who] hate it.
und segneten Rebekka mit den Worten: »Du, unsere Schwester, werde die Mutter von tausendmal Tausenden, und deine Nachkommen mögen die Tore ihrer Feinde besetzen!«
61 And she arose Rebekah and maids her and they rode on the camels and they went after the man and he took the servant Rebekah and he went.
So machte sich denn Rebekka mit ihren Dienerinnen auf den Weg; sie setzten sich auf die Kamele und zogen hinter dem Manne her: der Knecht hatte Rebekka übernommen und zog von dannen.
62 And Isaac he came from going Beer Lahai Roi and he [was] dwelling in [the] land of the Negev.
Isaak aber war gerade auf der Heimkehr von einem Gang nach dem ›Brunnen des Lebendigen, der mich sieht‹; er wohnte nämlich im Südgau
63 And he went out Isaac to meditate in the field to [the] turning of evening and he lifted up eyes his and he saw and there! camels [were] coming.
und war gegen Abend aufs Feld hinausgegangen, um mit seinen Gedanken allein zu sein. Als er nun aufblickte, sah er auf einmal Kamele daherkommen.
64 And she lifted up Rebekah eyes her and she saw Isaac and she fell from on the camel.
Als nun auch Rebekka ihre Augen aufschlug und den Isaak erblickte, ließ sie sich rasch vom Kamele herab
65 And she said to the servant who? [is] the man this who is walking in the field to meet us and he said the servant it [is] master my and she took the veil and she covered herself.
und fragte den Knecht: »Wer ist der Mann dort, der uns auf dem Felde entgegenkommt?« Der Knecht antwortete: »Das ist mein Herr!« Da nahm sie den Schleier und verhüllte sich.
66 And he recounted the servant to Isaac all the things which he had done.
Der Knecht erzählte dann dem Isaak alles, wie es ihm ergangen war.
67 And he brought her Isaac the tent of towards Sarah mother his and he took Rebekah and she became of him a wife and he loved her and he was comforted Isaac after mother his.
Isaak aber führte Rebekka in das Zelt seiner (verstorbenen) Mutter Sara und nahm sie auf; sie wurde seine Frau, und er gewann sie lieb. So tröstete sich Isaak nach dem Hingang seiner Mutter.
