They replied to him,
6 Listen to us - O lord my [are] a prince of God you in midst of us in [the] choicest of burial sites our bury dead your anyone of us burial site his not he will withhold from you from burying dead your.

7 And he arose Abraham and he bowed down to [the] people of the land to [the] people of Heth.
Then Abraham stood up and bowed [in respect] in front of the people who owned the land, the descendants of Heth.
8 And he spoke with them saying if there with desire your to bury dead my from to before me listen to me and entreat for me Ephron [the] son of Zohar.
He said to them, “If you say that you are willing for me to bury my wife’s body here, listen to me, and ask Ephron, the son of Zohar for me,
9 So may he give to me [the] cave of Machpelah which [belongs] to him which [is] at [the] end of field his for silver full let him give it to me in midst of you to a possession of a burial site.
to sell to me the cave in the Machpelah area, which is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price he wants, so that I can have a burial ground among you.”
10 And Ephron [was] sitting in among [the] people of Heth and he answered Ephron the Hethite Abraham in [the] ears of [the] people of Heth to all [those who were] entering [the] gate of city his saying.
Ephron was sitting among the people near the city gate where many [HYP] descendants of Heth had gathered. He heard what Abraham said to them.
11 No O lord my listen to me the field I give to you and the cave which [is] in it to you I give it to [the] eyes of [the] sons of people my I give it to you bury dead your.
[So, just to make the customary reply to start the real discussion about a price], Ephron said, “No, sir, listen to me. I will give to you the field and the cave in it, without charge, with the people here as witnesses.”
12 And he bowed down Abraham before [the] people of the land.
Abraham again bowed before the people who lived in the area,
13 And he spoke to Ephron in [the] ears of [the] people of the land saying nevertheless if you if listen to me I give [the] money of the field take [it] from me so let me bury dead my there.
and said to Ephron, as all the others were listening, “[No], listen to me. If you are willing, I will pay for the field. You tell me what the price is, and I will give it to you. If you accept it, the field will become mine, and I can bury my wife’s body there.”
14 And he answered Ephron Abraham saying to him.
Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
15 O lord my listen to me land of four hundred shekel[s] of silver between me and between you what? [is] it and dead your bury.
“Sir, listen to me. The land is worth 400 pieces of silver. But the price is not important to you and me. Give me the money and bury your wife’s body there.”
16 And he listened Abraham to Ephron and he weighed out Abraham for Ephron the money which he had spoken in [the] ears of [the] people of Heth four hundred shekel[s] of silver passing along to the trader.
Abraham agreed with Ephron about the price, and weighed for Ephron the 400 pieces of silver he had suggested, as everyone was listening, using the standard weights for silver used [in that area] by people who sold things.
17 And it was confirmed - [the] field of Ephron which [was] in Machpelah which [was] before Mamre the field and the cave which [was] in it and every tree which [was] in the field which [was] in all border its round about.
So Ephron’s field in the Machpelah area, near Mamre, and the cave in the field, and all the trees that were in the field inside the boundaries of the land, became Abraham’s possession.
18 To Abraham to a possession to [the] eyes of [the] people of Heth for all [those who were] entering [the] gate of city his.
It became Abraham’s property as all the descendants of Heth were listening there at the city gate.
19 And after thus he buried Abraham Sarah wife his into [the] cave of [the] field of Machpelah on [the] face of Mamre that [is] Hebron in [the] land of Canaan.
After that, Abraham buried his wife Sarah’s body in the cave in the field in the Machpelah area near Mamre, which is now called Hebron [city], in the Canaan region.
20 And it was confirmed the field and the cave which [was] in it to Abraham to a possession of a burial site from with [the] people of Heth.
So the field and the cave in it were officially sold to Abraham by the descendants of Heth, to be used as a burial ground.
