< Genesis 20 >
1 And he set out from there Abraham [the] land of towards the Negev and he dwelt between Kadesh and between Shur and he sojourned in Gerar.
Afterward Abraham departed thence toward the South countrey and dwelled betweene Cadesh and Shur, and soiourned in Gerar.
2 And he said Abraham concerning Sarah wife his [is] sister my she and he sent Abimelech [the] king of Gerar and he took Sarah.
And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. Then Abimelech King of Gerar sent and tooke Sarah.
3 And he came God to Abimelech in a dream the night and he said to him here you [are] about to die on the woman whom you have taken and she [is] married of a husband.
But God came to Abimelech in a dreame by night, and said to him, Beholde, thou art but dead, because of the woman, which thou hast taken: for she is a mans wife.
4 And Abimelech not he had drawn near to her and he said O Lord ¿ a nation also righteous will you kill.
(Notwithstanding Abimelech had not yet come neere her) And he said, Lord, wilt thou slay euen the righteous nation?
5 ¿ Not he did he say to me [is] sister my she and she also she she said [is] brother my he in [the] integrity of heart my and in [the] innocence of hands my I have done this.
Said not he vnto me, She is my sister? yea, and she her selfe said, He is my brother: with an vpright minde, and innocent handes haue I done this.
6 And he said to him God in a dream also I I know that in [the] integrity of heart your you did this and I have restrained also I you from sinning to me there-fore not I have permitted you to touch her.
And God saide vnto him by a dreame, I knowe that thou diddest this euen with an vpright minde, and I kept thee also that thou shouldest not sinne against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touche her.
7 And therefore return [the] wife of the man for [is] a prophet he so he may pray for you and live and if not [are] you returning [her] know that certainly you will die you and all who [belong] to you.
Now then deliuer the man his wife againe: for he is a Prophet, and he shall pray for thee that thou mayest liue: but if thou deliuer her not againe, be sure that thou shalt die the death, thou, and all that thou hast.
8 And he rose early Abimelech in the morning and he summoned all servants his and he spoke all the words these in ears their and they were afraid the men exceedingly.
Then Abimelech rising vp early in ye morning, called all his seruants, and tolde all these things vnto them, and the men were sore afraid.
9 And he summoned Abimelech Abraham and he said to him what? have you done to us and what? have I sinned to you for you have brought on me and on kingdom my a sin great deeds which not they will be done you have done with me.
Afterward Abimelech called Abraham, and said vnto him, What hast thou done vnto vs? and what haue I offeded thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdome this great sinne? thou hast done things vnto me that ought not to be done.
10 And he said Abimelech to Abraham what? did you see that you have done the thing this.
So Abimelech said vnto Abraham, What sawest thou that thou hast done this thing?
11 And he said Abraham that I said certainly there not [is] [the] fear of God in the place this and they will kill me on [the] matter of wife my.
Then Abraham answered, Because I thought thus, Surely the feare of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wiues sake.
12 And also truly [is] sister my [the] daughter of father my she only not [the] daughter of mother my and she became of me a wife.
Yet in very deede she is my sister: for she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she is my wife.
13 And it was just as they caused to wander me God from [the] household of father my and I said to her this [is] loyalty your which you will do with me to every place where we will go there towards say of me [is] brother my he.
Nowe when God caused me to wander out of my fathers house, I said then to her, This is thy kindnes that thou shalt shewe vnto me in all places where we come, Say thou of me, He is my brother.
14 And he took Abimelech sheep and cattle and [male] servants and female servants and he gave [them] to Abraham and he restored to him Sarah wife his.
Then tooke Abimelech sheepe and beeues, and men seruants, and women seruants, and gaue them vnto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 And he said Abimelech there! land my [is] before you in the [place] good in view your dwell.
And Abimelech saide, Beholde, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 And to Sarah he said here! I give a thousand silver to brother your there! it for you [is] a covering of eyes to all who [are] with you and with everyone [you are] vindicated.
Likewise to Sarah he said, Beholde, I haue giuen thy brother a thousand pieces of siluer: behold, he is the vaile of thine eyes to all that are with thee, and to all others: and she was thus reproued.
17 And he prayed Abraham to God and he healed God Abimelech and wife his and female slaves his and they bore children.
Then Abraham prayed vnto God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his women seruants: and they bare children.
18 For certainly had shut up Yahweh behind every womb of [the] household of Abimelech on [the] matter of Sarah [the] wife of Abraham.
For the Lord had shut vp euery wombe of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abrahams wife.
