Galatians 5
1 In freedom (which *k*) us Christ has set free; do stand firm therefore and not again in a yoke of slavery do be entangled.
Christus heeft ons vrij gemaakt, om in de vrijheid te blijven; staat dus vast, en kromt u niet opnieuw onder het slavenjuk.
2 Behold I myself Paul say to you that if you shall become circumcised, Christ you no [thing] will profit;
Zie, ik Paulus zeg het u: Als gij u besnijden laat, zal Christus u niets baten.
3 I testify now again to every man being circumcised that a debtor he is all the Law to keep.
En nog eens verklaar ik aan iedereen, die zich besnijden laat, dat hij dan verplicht is de hele Wet te onderhouden;
4 You are severed from (*k*) Christ whoever in [the] Law are being justified, from grace you have fallen away.
en aan ieder van u, die gerechtvaardigd wil worden door de Wet, dat gij u losmaakt van Christus, en vervallen zijt van de genade.
5 We ourselves for through [the] Spirit by faith [the] hope of righteousness eagerly await.
Door den Geest immers verwachten we de gehoopte gerechtigheid uit kracht van het geloof;
6 In for Christ Jesus neither circumcision any has power nor uncircumcision but only faith through love working.
want in Christus Jesus is besnijdenis noch onbesnedenheid van waarde, maar wel het geloof, dat werkt door de liefde.
7 You were running well; Who you (impeded *N(k)O*) the truth not to obey?
Gij waart zo goed aan het lopen; wie heeft u gestuit in het volgen der waarheid?
8 [This] persuasion [is] not of the [One] calling you.
Dat was zeker geen ingeving van Hem, die u roept;
9 A little leaven whole the lump leavens.
een weinig zuurdeeg verzuurt al het deeg!
10 I myself have been confident as to you in [the] Lord that no [thing] other you will reason; The [one] however troubling you he will bear the judgment whoever (maybe *N(k)O*) he shall be.
Ik vertrouw op u in den Heer, dat gij er niet anders over zult denken; maar wie verwarring onder u zaait, zal zijn straf ondergaan; wie het ook is.
11 I myself now, brothers, if circumcision still proclaim, why still am I persecuted? In that case has been abolished the offense of the cross.
Broeders, wanneer ikzelf nog steeds de besnijdenis zou preken, waarom blijft men mij dan nog vervolgen; dan was toch de ergernis van het kruis wel verdwenen.
12 I wish also will emasculate themselves those upsetting you.
Laten zij, die u opstoken, zich maar verder verminken!
13 You yourselves for to freedom were called, brothers; but not the freedom for an opportunity to the flesh, Rather through love do serve one another.
Zeker broeders, gij zijt tot vrijheid geroepen; maar tot geen vrijheid, die een voorwendsel is voor het vlees. Integendeel, dient elkander uit liefde;
14 For the entire Law in one word (has been fulfilled *N(k)O*) in this You will love the neighbour of you as (yourself. *NK(O)*)
want de ganse Wet wordt vervuld in één enkel gebod: "Ge zult uw naaste liefhebben als uzelf."
15 If however one another you bite and devour, do take heed lest by one another you may be consumed.
Maar zo gij elkander bijt en verslindt, ziet dan toe, dat gij niet door elkaar wordt verteerd.
16 I say now, by [the] Spirit do walk and [the] desire [of the] flesh certainly not you may gratify.
Ook zeg ik u: leeft naar de geest, dan zult gij niet de begeerten inwilligen van het vlees.
17 The for flesh desires against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; these (for *N(k)O*) to one another are opposed in order not that (maybe *N(k)O*) you shall wish those things you shall do.
Want het vlees begeert tegen de geest, en de geest tegen het vlees; ze staan vijandig tegenover elkaar, zodat gij niet doet, wat gij zoudt willen.
18 If however by [the] Spirit you are led, not you are under [the] Law.
Indien gij u door de geest laat leiden, dan valt gij niet onder de Wet.
19 Evident now are the works of the flesh which are (adultery *K*) sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Welnu, de werken van het vlees zijn bekend: ontucht, onreinheid en losbandigheid;
20 idolatry, (sorcery, *NK(o)*) enmities, strife, (jealousy, *N(k)O*) outbursts of anger, contentions, dissensions, factions,
afgoderij en toverij; vijandschap, twist, afgunst, gramschap, partijzucht, verdeeldheid, scheuring,
21 envyings, (murders *KO*) drunkennesses, carousing, and [things] like as these; which I forewarn you even as (also *k*) I warned before that those such things doing kingdom God’s not will inherit.
en nijd; dronkenschap, brasserij en dergelijke; en ik waarschuw u, zoals ik het ook vroeger deed: wie zo iets doet, zal het koninkrijk Gods niet beërven.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Maar de vrucht van de geest is: liefde, blijdschap en vrede; lankmoedigheid, welwillendheid en goedhartigheid; betrouwbaarheid,
23 gentleness, self-control; against [things] such no there is law.
zachtmoedigheid en gematigdheid. En tegen dit alles is de Wet niet gericht.
24 Those now of Christ (Jesus *NO*) the flesh crucified with [its] passions and desires.
Welnu, zij die Christus toebehoren, hebben het vlees gekruisigd met zijn driften en begeerten.
25 If we live by [the] Spirit, by [the] Spirit also we shall walk.
Zo we leven door de geest, laat ons dan ook handelen naar de geest;
26 Not we may become boastful, one another provoking, one another envying.
niet begerig naar ijdele glorie, elkander niet tartend, elkaar niet benijdend.
