< Ezekiel 17 >

1 And it came [the] word of Yahweh to me saying.
And there is a word of YHWH to me, saying,
2 O son of humankind ask a riddle a riddle and speak a parable a parable concerning [the] house of Israel.
“Son of man, put forth a riddle, and use an allegory to the house of Israel,
3 And you will say thus he says - [the] Lord Yahweh the eagle great great of wings long of pinion full plumage which [belonged] to it variegated plumage it came to Lebanon and it took [the] treetop of the cedar.
and you have said, Thus said Lord YHWH: The great eagle, great-winged, long-pinioned, Full of feathers, that has diverse colors, Has come to Lebanon, And he takes the foliage of the cedar,
4 [the] top Shoots its it plucked off and it brought it to a land of merchant[s] in a city of traders it placed it.
He has cropped the top of its tender twigs, And he brings it to the land of Canaan. He has placed it in a city of merchants.
5 And it took one of [the] seed of the land and it put it in a field of seed take [it] at waters many a willow it placed it.
And he takes of the seed of the land, And puts it in a field of seed, He took [it] by many waters, He has set it in a conspicuous place.
6 And it sprouted and it became a vine spreading low of stature to turn branches its to it and roots its under it they were and it became a vine and it produced shoots and it sent out boughs.
And it springs up, and becomes a spreading vine, humble of stature, To turn its thin shoots toward itself, And its roots are under it, And it becomes a vine, and makes boughs, And sends forth beautiful branches.
7 And it was an eagle one great great of wings and great of plumage and there! the vine this it bent roots its on it and branches its it sent out to it to water it from [the] beds of planting its.
And there is another great eagle, Great-winged, and abounding with feathers, And behold, this vine has bent its roots toward him, And it has sent out its thin shoots toward him, To water it from the furrows of its planting,
8 To a field good to waters many it [was] planted to produce branch[es] and to bear fruit to become a vine of splendor.
On a good field, by many waters, it is planted, to make branches, and to bear fruit, to be for a good vine.
9 Say thus he says [the] Lord Yahweh will it prosper? ¿ not roots its will it pull up and fruit its - will it strip off? and it will wither all [the] fresh [things] of growth its it will wither and not by an arm great and by a people numerous to lift up it from roots its.
Say, Thus said Lord YHWH: It prospers—does he not draw out its roots, And cut off its fruit, and it is withered? [In] all the leaves of its springing it withers, And not by great strength, or by numerous people, To lift it up by its roots.
10 And there! [it is] planted ¿ will it prosper ¿ not when touches it [the] wind of the east will it wither completely on [the] beds of growth its it will wither.
And behold, the planted thing—does it prosper? When the east wind comes against it, does it not utterly wither? On the furrows of its springing it withers.”
11 And it came [the] word of Yahweh to me saying.
And there is a word of YHWH to me, saying,
12 Say please to [the] house of rebellion ¿ not do you know what? [are] these [things] say there! he went [the] king of Babylon Jerusalem and he took king its and princes its and he brought them to himself Babylon towards.
“Now say to the house of rebellion, Have you not known what these [are]? Say, Behold, the king of Babylon has come to Jerusalem, And he takes its king, and its princes, And brings them to himself to Babylon.
13 And he took one of [the] offspring of royalty and he made with him a covenant and he made go him in an oath and [the] leaders of the land he took.
And he takes of the seed of the kingdom, And makes a covenant with him, And brings him into an oath, And he has taken the mighty of the land,
14 To be a kingdom lowly to not to exalt itself to keep covenant his to continue it.
That the kingdom may be humble, That it may not lift itself up, To keep his covenant—that it may stand.
15 And he rebelled against him by sending messengers his Egypt to give to him horses and a people numerous ¿ will he prosper ¿ will he escape the [one who] does these [things] and will he break? a covenant and will he escape?
And he rebels against him, To send his messengers to Egypt, To give to him horses, and many people, Does he prosper? Does he who is doing these things escape? And has he broken covenant and escaped?
16 [by] [the] life Of me [the] utterance of [the] Lord Yahweh if not in [the] place of the king who made king him whom he despised oath his and whom he broke covenant his with him in [the] midst of Babylon he will die.
[As] I live—a declaration of Lord YHWH, Does he not—in the place of the king who is causing him to reign, Whose oath he has despised, And whose covenant he has broken—die with him in the midst of Babylon?
17 And not with an army large and with a company great he will do with him Pharaoh in battle when pour out a mound and when build a siege-wall to cut off lives many.
And not with a great force, and with a numerous assembly, Does Pharaoh maintain him in battle, By pouring out a mound, and in building a fortification, To cut off many souls.
18 And he despised [the] oath by breaking [the] covenant and there! he had given hand his and all these [things] he did not he will escape.
And he despised the oath—to break covenant, And behold, he has given his hand, And all these he has done—he does not escape.
19 Therefore thus he says [the] Lord Yahweh [by] [the] life of me if not oath my which he despised and covenant my which he broke and I will requite it on own head his.
Therefore, thus said Lord YHWH: [As] I live—My oath that he has despised, And My covenant that he has broken, Have I not put it on his head?
20 And I will spread over him net my and he will be caught in hunting net my and I will bring him Babylon towards and I will enter into judgment with him there unfaithfulness his which he has acted unfaithfully against me.
And I have spread out My snare for him, And he has been caught in My net, And I have brought him to Babylon, And judged him there [for the] trespass That he has trespassed against Me.
21 And all (fugitives his *Q(K)*) among all troops his by the sword they will fall and the [ones who] survive to every wind they will be scattered and you will know that I Yahweh I have spoken.
And all his fugitives, with all his bands, Fall by sword, and those remaining, They are spread out to every wind, And you have known that I, YHWH, have spoken.
22 Thus he says [the] Lord Yahweh and I will take I from [the] treetop of the cedar high and I will place [it] from [the] top of young shoots its a tender [shoot] I will pluck off and I will plant [it] I on a mountain high and lofty.
Thus said Lord YHWH: I have taken of the foliage of the high cedar, And I have set [it], I crop a tender one from the top of its tender shoots, And I have planted [it] on a high and lofty mountain.
23 On [the] mountain of [the] height of Israel I will plant it and it will bear branch[es] and it will produce fruit and it will become a cedar majestic and they will dwell under it every bird every wing in [the] shadow of branches its they will dwell.
In a mountain—the high place of Israel, I plant it, And it has borne boughs, and yielded fruit, And become a good cedar, And every bird of every [kind of] wing has dwelt under it, They dwell in the shade of its thin shoots.
24 And they will know all [the] trees of the field that I Yahweh I bring low - a tree tall I raise up a tree low I make dry a tree moist and I make sprout a tree dry I Yahweh I have spoken and I will act.
And all trees of the field have known That I, YHWH, have made the high tree low, I have set the low tree on high, I have dried up the moist tree, And I have caused the dry tree to flourish, I, YHWH, have spoken, and have done [it]!”
