< Exodus 1 >

1 And these [are] [the] names of [the] sons of Israel who went Egypt towards with Jacob everyone and household his they went.
Na ko nga ingoa enei o nga tama a Iharaira i haere ki Ihipa; i haere tahi mai ratou me Hakopa, me te whare o tenei, o tenei.
2 Reuben Simeon Levi and Judah.
Ko Reupena, ko Himiona, ko Riwai, ko Hura,
3 Issachar Zebulun and Benjamin.
Ko Ihakara, ko Hepurona, ko Pineamine,
4 Dan and Naphtali Gad and Asher.
Ko Rana, ko Napatari, ko Kara, ko Ahera.
5 And it was every person [who] came out of [the] thigh of Jacob seventy person[s] and Joseph he was in Egypt.
Na, ko nga wairua katoa i puta mai i te hope o Hakopa, e whitu tekau wairua: i Ihipa hoki a Hohepa.
6 And he died Joseph and all brothers his and all the generation that.
Na kua mate a Hohepa, me ona tuakana katoa, me tera whakapaparanga katoa.
7 And [the] people of Israel they were fruitful and they swarmed and they multiplied and they became mighty with muchness muchness and it was filled the land with them.
A ka tupu nga tama a Iharaira, ka tini haere, ka hira rawa, ka kaha noa atu; a kapi ana te whenua i a ratou.
8 And he arose a king new over Egypt who not he knew Joseph.
Na kua puta he kingi hou mo Ihipa, kihai i mohio ki a Hohepa.
9 And he said to people his here! [the] people of [the] people of Israel [is] numerous and mighty more than us.
A ka ki ia ki tona iwi, Nana, hira ake, kaha ake i a tatou te iwi o nga tama a Iharaira.
10 Give! let us deal wisely to it lest it should increase and it will be that they will happen war and it will be added also it to [those who] hate us and it will fight against us and it will go up from the land.
11 And they appointed over it overseers of slave gangs so as to afflict it with forced labor their and it built cities of storage for Pharaoh Pithom and Rameses.
Na ka whakaritea he rangatira akiaki mo ratou, hei whakawhui mo ratou ki a ratou kawenga. A hanga ana e ratou nga pa takotoranga taonga mo Parao, a Pitoma, a Raamahehe.
12 And just as people afflicted it so it increased and so it spread and people felt dread because of [the] people of Israel.
Engari whakawhiu noa ratou i a ratou, e hua tonu mai ana, e tupu ana. A pawera ana ratou i nga tama a Iharaira.
13 And they compelled to labor Egypt [the] people of Israel with harshness.
A nanakia noa iho te whakamahinga a nga Ihipiana i nga tama a Iharaira:
14 And they made bitter lives their with labor hard in mortar and in bricks and in all labor in the field all labor their which they labored by them with harshness.
15 And he said [the] king of Egypt to the midwives Hebrew who [the] name of the one [was] Shiphrah and [the] name of the second [was] Puah.
16 And he said when assist as midwife you the Hebrew [women] and you will look at the stones if [is] a son he and you will kill him and if [is] a daughter she and she will live.
I ki ia, E whakawhanau korua i nga wahine a nga Hiperu, a ka kite i a ratou i runga i nga kumete, ki te mea he tamaiti tane, whakamatea; he kotiro ia, kia ora tena.
17 And they feared the midwives God and not they did just as he had spoken to them [the] king of Egypt and they let live the [male] children.
18 And he summoned [the] king of Egypt the midwives and he said to them why? have you done the thing this and have you let live? the [male] children.
19 And they said the midwives to Pharaoh for not [are] like the women Egyptian the Hebrew [women] that [are] vigorous they before she comes to them the midwife and they give birth.
A ka mea nga kaiwhakawhanau ki a Parao, No te mea ra, ehara nga wahine a nga Hiperu i te pena me nga wahine a nga Ihipiana; e maia ana hoki ratou, kahore ano kia tae atu te kaiwhakawhanau ki a ratou kua whanau.
20 And he did good God to the midwives and it increased the people and they became mighty exceedingly.
21 And it was that they feared the midwives God and he appointed for them households.
A, no te mea i wehi nga kaiwhakawhanau ki te Atua, ka hanga e ia he whare mo raua.
22 And he commanded Pharaoh to all people his saying every son born the River towards you will throw him and every daughter you will let live!
