Deuteronomy 9
1 Hear O Israel you [are] about to pass over this day the Jordan to go to dispossess nations great and mighty more than you cities large and fortified in the heavens.
Écoute, Israël. Tu vas aujourd’hui passer le Jourdain, pour marcher à la conquête de nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que toi, de grandes villes dont les murailles s’élèvent jusqu’au ciel,
2 A people great and lofty [the] descendants of [the] Anakites whom you you know and you you have heard who? will he stand before [the] descendants of Anak.
d’un peuple grand et de haute stature, des enfants des Enacim, que tu connais et dont tu as entendu dire: Qui pourra tenir contre les enfants d’Enac?
3 And you will know this day that Yahweh God your he [is] the [one who] is about to pass over before you a fire consuming he he will destroy them and he he will subdue them before you and you will dispossess them and you will destroy them quickly just as he spoke Yahweh to you.
Sache aujourd’hui que Yahweh, ton Dieu, passera lui-même devant toi comme un feu dévorant; c’est lui qui les détruira, lui qui les humiliera devant toi; tu les chasseras et tu les feras périr promptement, comme Yahweh te l’a dit.
4 May not you say in heart your when drives out Yahweh God your them - from to before you saying in righteousness my he has brought me Yahweh to take possession of the land this and in [the] wickedness of the nations these Yahweh [is] dispossessing them from before you.
Ne dis pas dans ton cœur, lorsque Yahweh, ton Dieu, les chassera de devant toi: « C’est à cause de ma justice que Yahweh m’a fait venir pour prendre possession de ce pays ». Car c’est à cause de la méchanceté de ces nations que Yahweh les chasse de devant toi.
5 Not in righteousness your and in [the] uprightness of heart your you [are] about to go to take possession of land their for in [the] wickedness of - the nations these Yahweh God your [is] dispossessing them from before you and so as to carry out the word which he swore Yahweh to ancestors your to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob.
Non, ce n’est point à cause de ta justice et de la droiture de ton cœur que tu viens prendre possession de leur pays; mais c’est à cause de la méchanceté de ces nations que Yahweh, ton Dieu, les chasse de devant toi; c’est aussi pour accomplir la parole que Yahweh a jurée à tes pères, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
6 And you will know that not in righteousness your Yahweh God your [is] about to give to you the land good this to take possession of it for [are] a people stiff of neck you.
Sache donc que ce n’est pas à cause de ta justice que Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donne ce bon pays en propriété; car tu es un peuple au cou raide.
7 Remember may not you forget this: you provoked to anger Yahweh God your in the wilderness from the day when you came out - from [the] land of Egypt until came you to the place this rebelling you have been with Yahweh.
Souviens-toi, n’oublie pas combien tu as irrité Yahweh, ton Dieu, dans le désert. Depuis le jour où tu es sorti du pays d’Égypte jusqu’à votre arrivée dans ce lieu, vous avez été rebelles envers Yahweh.
8 And at Horeb you provoked to anger Yahweh and he was angry Yahweh with you to destroy you.
Même en Horeb vous avez excité Yahweh à la colère, et Yahweh fut irrité contre vous jusqu’à vouloir vous détruire.
9 When went up I the mountain towards to receive [the] tablets of stone [the] tablets of the covenant which he had made Yahweh with you and I remained on the mountain forty day[s] and forty night[s] food not I ate and water not I drank.
Lorsque je montai sur la montagne, pour recevoir les tables de pierre, les tables de l’alliance que Yahweh avait conclue avec vous, je demeurai sur la montagne quarante jours et quarante nuits, sans manger de pain et sans boire d’eau;
10 And he gave Yahweh to me [the] two [the] tablets of stone inscribed by [the] finger of God and [were] on them like all the words which he had spoken Yahweh with you on the mountain from [the] middle of the fire on [the] day of the assembly.
et Yahweh me donna les deux tables de pierre écrites du doigt de Dieu, et contenant toutes les paroles que Yahweh vous avait dites sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, le jour de l’assemblée.
11 And it was from [the] end of forty day[s] and forty night[s] he gave Yahweh to me [the] two [the] tablets of stone [the] tablets of the covenant.
Au bout des quarante jours et des quarante nuits, Yahweh me donna les deux tables de pierre, les tables de l’alliance.
12 And he said Yahweh to me arise go down quickly from here for it has acted corruptly people your which you brought out from Egypt they have turned aside quickly from the way which I commanded them they have made for themselves a molten image.
Yahweh me dit alors: « Lève-toi, descends vite d’ici, car ton peuple, que tu as fait sortir d’Égypte, s’est corrompu. Ils se sont promptement écartés de la voie que je leur avais prescrite; ils se sont fait une image de fonte. »
13 And he said Yahweh to me saying I have seen the people this and there! [is] a people stiff of neck it.
Et Yahweh me dit: « Je vois que ce peuple est un peuple au cou raide.
14 Refrain from me so I may destroy them and I may wipe out name their from under the heavens so I may make you into a nation mighty and great more than it.
Laisse-moi, que je les détruise et que j’efface leur nom de dessous les cieux; et je ferai de toi une nation plus puissante et plus nombreuse que ce peuple. »
15 And I turned and I went down from the mountain and the mountain [was] burning with fire and [the] two [the] tablets of the covenant [were] on [the] two hands my.
Je me tournai et je descendis de la montagne, et la montagne était toute en feu, et j’avais dans mes deux mains les deux tables de l’alliance.
16 And I saw and there! you had sinned to Yahweh God your you had made for yourselves a calf of molten metal you had turned aside quickly from the way which he had commanded Yahweh you.
Je regardai, et voici que vous aviez péché contre Yahweh, votre Dieu; vous vous étiez fait un veau de fonte, et vous vous étiez promptement écartés de la voie que Yahweh vous avait prescrite.
17 And I seized [the] two the tablets and I threw them from on [the] two hands my and I broke them to eyes your.
Alors, saisissant les deux tables, je les jetai de mes mains et je les brisai sous vos yeux.
18 And I prostrated myself before Yahweh like the former [time] forty day[s] and forty night[s] food not I ate and water not I drank on all sin your which you had sinned by doing the evil in [the] eyes of Yahweh to provoke to anger him.
Et je tombai devant Yahweh, comme la première fois, pendant quarante jours et quarante nuits, sans manger de pain, et sans boire d’eau, à cause de tous les péchés que vous aviez commis en faisant ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, de manière à l’irriter.
19 For I was afraid of the anger and the rage which he was angry Yahweh towards you to destroy you and he listened Yahweh to me also at the time that.
Car j’étais effrayé en voyant la colère et la fureur dont Yahweh était animé contre vous, jusqu’à vouloir vous détruire; mais cette fois encore Yahweh m’exauça.
20 And with Aaron he was angry Yahweh exceedingly to destroy him and I prayed also for Aaron at the time (that *L(abh)*)
Yahweh était aussi fortement irrité contre Aaron, au point de vouloir le faire périr, et j’intercédai aussi pour Aaron en ce temps-là.
21 and sin your which you had made the calf I took and I burned it - with fire and I crushed it grinding [it] well until that it was fine dust and I threw dust its into the wadi which was coming down from the mountain.
Je pris le péché que vous aviez fait, le veau d’or, je le brûlai au feu, je le broyai jusqu’à ce qu’il fût bien réduit en poudre, et je jetai cette poudre dans le torrent qui descend de la montagne.
22 And at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah provoking to anger you were Yahweh.
À Tabéera, à Massah et à Kibroth-Hattaava, vous avez encore excité Yahweh à la colère.
23 And when sent Yahweh you from Kadesh Barnea saying go up and take possession of the land which I have given to you and you rebelled against [the] mouth of Yahweh God your and not you believed him and not you listened to voice his.
Et lorsque Yahweh vous envoya de Cadès-Barné, en disant: Montez et prenez possession du pays que je vous donne, vous fûtes rebelles à l’ordre de Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous n’eûtes pas foi en lui et vous n’obéîtes pas à sa voix.
24 Rebelling you have been with Yahweh from [the] day knew I you.
Vous avez été rebelles à Yahweh depuis le jour où je vous ai connus.
25 And I prostrated myself before Yahweh [the] forty the day[s] and [the] forty the night[s] which I prostrated myself for he had said Yahweh to destroy you.
Je me prosternai donc devant Yahweh pendant les quarante jours et les quarante nuits que je restai prosterné, car Yahweh parlait de vous détruire.
26 And I prayed to Yahweh and I said O Lord Yahweh may not you destroy people your and inheritance your which you redeemed by greatness your which you brought out from Egypt by a hand strong.
Je priai Yahweh et je dis: « Seigneur Yahweh, ne détruisez pas votre peuple, votre héritage, que vous avez racheté par votre grandeur, que vous avez fait sortir d’Égypte par votre main puissante.
27 Remember servants your Abraham Isaac and Jacob may not you turn to [the] stubbornness of the people this and to wickedness its and to sin its.
Souvenez-vous de vos serviteurs, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob; ne regardez point à l’opiniâtreté de ce peuple, à sa méchanceté et à son péché,
28 Lest they should say the land where you brought out us from there because not was able Yahweh to bring them into the land which he spoke to them and from hatred his them he led out them to put to death them in the wilderness.
de peur que le pays d’où vous nous avez fait sortir ne dise: Parce que Yahweh n’avait pas le pouvoir de les faire entrer dans le pays qu’il leur avait promis, et parce qu’il les haïssait, il les a fait sortir pour les faire mourir dans le désert.
29 And they [are] people your and inheritance your which you brought out by strength your great and by arm your outstretched.
Et pourtant ils sont votre peuple et votre héritage, que vous avez fait sortir d’Égypte par votre grande puissance et par votre bras étendu! »
