Deuteronomy 4
1 And now O Israel listen to the statutes and to the judgments which I [am] about to teach you to observe so that you may live and you will go and you will take possession of the land which Yahweh [the] God of ancestors your [is] about to give to you.
Et maintenant, Israël, écoute les lois et les ordonnances que je vous enseigne pour les mettre en pratique, afin que vous viviez, que vous entriez et que vous possédiez le pays que vous donne Yahweh, le Dieu de vos pères.
2 Not you must add to the word which I [am] about to command you and not you must diminish from it to keep [the] commandments of Yahweh God your which I [am] about to command you.
Vous n’ajouterez rien à ce que je vous prescris, et vous n’en retrancherez rien; mais vous observerez les commandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, que je vous prescris.
3 Own eyes your [are] the [ones which] saw [that] which he did Yahweh at Baal Peor for every person who he walked after Baal Peor he destroyed him Yahweh God your from midst your.
Vos yeux ont vu ce que Yahweh a fait à cause de Baal-Phogor: Yahweh, ton Dieu, a détruit du milieu de toi tous ceux qui avaient suivi Baal-Phogor;
4 And you who were clinging on Yahweh God your [are] alive all of you this day.
tandis que vous, qui vous êtes attachés à Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous êtes aujourd’hui tous vivants.
5 See - I have taught you statutes and judgments just as he commanded me Yahweh God my to do thus in [the] midst of the land where you [are] about to go there towards to take possession of it.
Je vous ai enseigné des lois et des ordonnances comme Yahweh, mon Dieu, me l’a commandé, afin que vous les mettiez en pratique dans le pays où vous entrez pour le posséder.
6 And you will take care and you will observe [them] for that [will be] wisdom your and understanding your to [the] eyes of the peoples which they will hear! all the statutes these and they will say certainly [is] a people wise and understanding the nation great this.
Vous les observerez et les mettrez en pratique; car ce sera là votre sagesse et votre intelligence, aux yeux des peuples qui entendront parler de toutes ces lois et diront: Certes, cette grande nation est un peuple sage et intelligent!
7 For who? [is] a nation great which [belongs] to it a god near to it like Yahweh God our in all calling we to him.
Quelle est, en effet, la grande nation qui ait des dieux près d’elle, comme nous avons Yahweh, notre Dieu, toutes les fois que nous l’invoquons?
8 And who? [is] a nation great which [belongs] to it statutes and judgments righteous like all the law this which I [am] setting before you this day.
Et quelle est la grande nation qui ait des lois et des ordonnances justes, comme toute cette loi que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous?
9 Only take heed to yourself and guard self your exceedingly lest you should forget the things which they have seen eyes your and lest they should depart from heart your all [the] days of life your and you will make known them to children your and to [the] children of children your.
Seulement prends garde à toi et garde attentivement ton âme, de peur d’oublier les choses que tes yeux ont vues, et de les laisser sortir de ton cœur, un seul jour de ta vie; mais enseigne-les à tes enfants et aux enfants de tes enfants.
10 [the] day When you stood before Yahweh God your at Horeb when said Yahweh to me assemble to me the people so I may make hear them words my that they will learn! to fear me all the days which they [will be] alive on the land and children their they will teach!
Souviens-toi du jour où tu te présentas devant Yahweh, ton Dieu, en Horeb, lorsque Yahweh me dit: « Assemble-moi le peuple; je leur ferai entendre mes paroles, afin qu’ils apprennent à me craindre, tout le temps qu’ils vivront sur la terre, et afin qu’ils les enseignent à leurs enfants. »
11 And you drew near! and you stood! under the mountain and the mountain [was] burning with fire to [the] heart of the heavens darkness cloud and thick darkness.
Vous vous approchâtes et vous vous tîntes au pied de la montagne; la montagne était en feu et la flamme s’élevait jusque dans les profondeurs du ciel, parmi des ténèbres, des nuées et de l’obscurité.
12 And he spoke Yahweh to you from [the] middle of the fire a sound of words you [were] hearing and a form not you [were] seeing except a voice.
Alors Yahweh vous parla du milieu du feu; vous entendiez le son des paroles, mais sans voir de figure: vous n’entendîtes qu’une voix.
13 And he declared to you covenant his which he commanded you to observe [the] ten the words and he inscribed them on two tablets of stone.
Il promulgua son alliance, qu’il vous ordonna d’observer, savoir les dix commandements, et il les écrivit sur deux tables de pierre.
14 And me he commanded Yahweh at the time that to teach you statutes and judgments to observe you them in the land where you [are] about to pass over there towards to take possession of it.
En ce temps-là, Yahweh me commanda de vous enseigner des lois et des ordonnances, pour que vous les pratiquiez dans le pays où vous allez entrer pour en prendre possession.
15 And you will take heed exceedingly to selves your for not you saw any form on [the] day [when] he spoke Yahweh to you at Horeb from [the] middle of the fire.
Puisque vous n’avez vu aucune figure le jour où Yahweh vous parla du milieu du feu en Horeb, prenez bien garde à vos âmes,
16 Lest you should act corruptly! and you will make for yourselves an image of a form of any figure a likeness of a male or a female.
de peur que vous ne vous corrompiez et que vous ne vous fassiez une image taillée, figure de quelque idole, image d’homme ou de femme,
17 A likeness of any animal which [is] on the earth a likeness of any bird of wing which it flies in the heavens.
toute image d’animal qui vit sur la terre, toute image d’oiseau qui vole dans le ciel,
18 A likeness of any creeping [thing] on the ground a likeness of any fish which [is] in the waters from under to the earth.
toute image de bête qui rampe sur le sol, toute image de poisson qui vit dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre;
19 And lest you should lift up eyes your the heavens towards and you will see the sun and the moon and the stars all [the] host of the heavens and you will be drawn aside and you will bow down to them and you will serve them which he has assigned Yahweh God your them to all the peoples under all the heavens.
de peur que, levant les yeux vers le ciel, et voyant le soleil, la lune et les étoiles, toute l’armée des cieux, tu ne sois attiré à te prosterner devant eux et à leur rendre un culte, eux que Yahweh, ton Dieu, a donnés en partage à tous les peuples qui sont partout sous le ciel.
20 And you he took Yahweh and he brought out you from [the] furnace of iron from Egypt to become for him a people of inheritance as the day this.
Mais vous, Yahweh vous a pris et vous a fait sortir de la fournaise à fondre le fer, de l’Égypte, pour devenir le peuple de son héritage, comme vous l’êtes aujourd’hui.
21 And Yahweh he was angry with me on words your and he swore to not to pass over I the Jordan and to not to go into the land good which Yahweh God your [is] about to give to you an inheritance.
Et Yahweh s’irrita contre moi, à cause de vous, et il jura que je ne passerais pas le Jourdain, et que je n’entrerais pas dans le bon pays que Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donne en héritage.
22 For I [am] about to die in the land this not I [am] about to pass over the Jordan and you [are] about to pass over and you will take possession of the land good this.
Je vais mourir dans ce pays-ci, sans passer le Jourdain; mais vous le passerez et vous posséderez ce bon pays.
23 Take heed to yourselves lest you should forget [the] covenant of Yahweh God your which he has made with you and you will make for yourselves an image a form of anything which he commanded you Yahweh God your.
Prenez garde à vous, pour ne pas oublier l’alliance que Yahweh, votre Dieu, a contractée avec vous, et ne pas vous faire d’image taillée, de figure quelconque de ce que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’a défendu.
24 For Yahweh God your [is] a fire consuming he a God jealous.
Car Yahweh, ton Dieu, est un feu dévorant, un Dieu jaloux.
25 For you will father children and children of children and you will grow old in the land and you will act corruptly and you will make an image of a form of anything and you will do the evil in [the] eyes of Yahweh God your to provoke to anger him.
Lorsque tu auras des enfants et des enfants de tes enfants, et que vous aurez longtemps habité le pays, si vous vous corrompez et si vous vous faites quelque image taillée, figure de quoi que ce soit, faisant ainsi ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour l’irriter,
26 I call as witnesses against you this day the heavens and the earth that certainly you will perish! quickly from on the land where you [are] about to pass over the Jordan there towards to take possession of it not you will prolong! days on it for utterly you will be destroyed!
— j’en prends aujourd’hui à témoin contre vous le ciel et la terre, — vous périrez bientôt et disparaîtrez du pays dont vous allez prendre possession en passant le Jourdain; vous n’y prolongerez pas vos jours, car vous serez entièrement détruits.
27 And he will scatter Yahweh you among the peoples and you will be left men of number among the nations where he will drive away Yahweh you there towards.
Yahweh vous dispersera parmi les peuples, et vous resterez en petit nombre au milieu des nations où Yahweh vous mènera.
28 And you will serve there gods [the] work of [the] hands of a human wood and stone which not they see! and not they hear! and not they eat! and not they smell!
Et là vous servirez des dieux, ouvrages de mains d’homme, du bois et de la pierre, qui ne voient point, n’entendent point, ne mangent point et ne sentent point.
29 And you will seek from there Yahweh God your and you will find [him] for you will seek him with all heart your and with all being your.
De là vous chercherez Yahweh, ton Dieu, et tu le trouveras, si tu le cherches de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme.
30 When it is distress to you and they will come upon you all the things these at [the] end of the days and you will return to Yahweh God your and you will listen to voice his.
Au milieu de ta détresse, quand toutes ces choses seront venues sur toi, dans les derniers jours, tu retourneras à Yahweh, ton Dieu, et tu écouteras sa voix;
31 For [is] a God compassionate Yahweh God your not he will abandon you and not he will destroy you and not he will forget [the] covenant of ancestors your which he swore to them.
car c’est un Dieu compatissant que Yahweh, ton Dieu: il ne t’abandonnera pas et ne te détruira pas; il n’oubliera pas son alliance avec tes pères, qu’il leur a jurée.
32 That ask please to days former which they were before you from the day when he created God - humankind on the earth and to from [the] end of the heavens and to [the] end of the heavens ¿ has it happened like the thing great this or ¿ has it been heard like it.
Interroge les temps anciens qui t’ont précédé, depuis le jour où Dieu créa l’homme sur la terre, et d’une extrémité du ciel à l’autre extrémité: est-il jamais arrivé si grande chose, et a-t-on jamais entendu rien de pareil?
33 ¿ Has it heard a people [the] voice of a god speaking from [the] middle of the fire just as you have heard you and has it lived?
Un peuple a-t-il entendu la voix de Dieu parlant du milieu du feu, comme tu l’as entendue, et est-il demeuré vivant?
34 Or - ¿ has it attempted a god to come to take for itself a nation from [the] midst of a nation by trials by signs and by wonders and by battle and by a hand strong and by an arm outstretched and by terrors great like all that he did for you Yahweh God your in Egypt to eyes your.
Jamais un dieu essaya-t-il de venir prendre pour lui une nation du milieu d’une autre nation, par des épreuves, des signes, des miracles, par la guerre, à main forte et à bras étendu, et par de grandes épouvantes, selon tout ce qu’a fait pour vous Yahweh, votre Dieu, sous tes yeux, en Égypte?
35 You you were shown to know that Yahweh he [is] God there not [is] still more from to alone him.
Ces choses t’ont été montrées, afin que tu connusses que c’est Yahweh qui est Dieu, et qu’il n’y en a point d’autre que lui.
36 From the heavens he caused to hear you voice his to discipline you and on the earth he showed you fire his great and words his you heard from [the] middle of the fire.
Du ciel, il t’a fait entendre sa voix pour t’instruire, et sur la terre, il t’a fait voir son grand feu, et tu as entendu ses paroles du milieu du feu.
37 And because that he loved ancestors your and he chose offspring his after him and he brought out you by own presence his by power his great from Egypt.
Parce qu’il a aimé tes pères, il a choisi leur postérité après eux, il t’a fait sortir d’Égypte par sa présence, par sa grande puissance,
38 To dispossess nations great and mighty more than you from before you to bring in you to give to you land their an inheritance as the day this.
pour chasser devant toi des nations plus nombreuses et plus fortes que toi, pour te faire entrer dans leur pays et te le donner en héritage, comme tu le vois aujourd’hui.
39 And you will know this day and you will bring back to heart your that Yahweh he [is] God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath there not [is] still more.
Sache donc en ce jour et grave dans ton cœur que c’est Yahweh qui est Dieu, en haut dans le ciel et en bas sur la terre; il n’y en a point d’autre.
40 And you will keep statutes his and commandments his which I [am] commanding you this day that it will go well for you and for children your after you and so that you may prolong days on (the land *L(abh)*) which Yahweh God your [is] about to give to you all the days.
Observe ses lois et ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd’hui, afin que tu sois heureux, toi et tes enfants après toi, et afin que tu prolonges tes jours, dans toute la suite des âges, sur la terre que te donne Yahweh, ton Dieu. »
41 Then he set apart Moses three cities on [the] other side of the Jordan [the] rising of towards [the] sun.
Alors Moïse mit à part trois villes de l’autre côté du Jourdain, à l’orient,
42 To flee there towards a killer who he will kill neighbor his with no knowledge and he not [was] hating him from yesterday [the] third day and he will flee to one of the cities these and he will live.
afin qu’elles servissent de refuge au meurtrier qui aurait tué son prochain par mégarde, sans avoir été auparavant son ennemi, et que, en se réfugiant dans l’une de ces villes, il sauvât sa vie.
43 Bezer in the wilderness in [the] land of the plain for the Reubenite[s] and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadite[s] and Golan in Bashan for the Manassite[s].
Ce furent: Bosor, dans le désert, dans la plaine, pour les Rubénites; Ramoth, en Galaad, pour les Gadites, et Golan, en Basan pour les Manassites.
44 And this [is] the law which he set Moses before [the] people of Israel.
C’est ici la loi que Moïse mit devant les yeux des enfants d’Israël;
45 These [are] the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments which he spoke Moses to [the] people of Israel when came out they from Egypt.
— ce sont les préceptes, les lois et les ordonnances que Moïse donna aux enfants d’Israël lors de leur sortie d’Égypte; —
46 On [the] other side of the Jordan in the valley opposite to Beth Peor in [the] land of Sihon [the] king of the Amorite[s] who [was] dwelling in Heshbon whom he struck down Moses and [the] people of Israel when came out they from Egypt.
de l’autre côté du Jourdain, dans la vallée, vis-à-vis de Beth-Phogor, au pays de Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui habitait à Hésebon, et qui avait été battu par Moïse et les enfants d’Israël, lors de leur sortie d’Égypte.
47 And they took possession of land his and [the] land of - Og [the] king of Bashan [the] two [the] kings of the Amorite[s] who [was] on [the] other side of the Jordan [the] rising of [the] sun.
Ils prirent possession de son pays et de celui d’Og, roi de Basan, deux rois des Amorrhéens qui étaient au delà du Jourdain, à l’orient,
48 From Aroer which [is] on [the] edge of [the] wadi of Arnon and to [the] mountain of Siyon that [is] Hermon.
depuis Aroër sur le bord du torrent de l’Arnon jusqu’à la montagne de Sion, qui est l’Hermon,
49 And all the Arabah [the] other side of the Jordan east-wards and to [the] sea of the Arabah under [the] slopes of Pisgah.
avec toute l’Arabah, de l’autre côté du Jourdain, à l’orient, jusqu’à la mer de l’Arabah, au pied du Phasga.
