Deuteronomy 2
1 And we turned and we set out the wilderness towards [the] way of [the] sea of reed[s] just as he had spoken Yahweh to me and we went around [the] hill country of Seir days many.
Changeant de direction, nous partîmes pour le désert, par le chemin de la mer Rouge, comme Yahweh me l'avait ordonné, et nous tournâmes longtemps autour de la montagne de Séïr.
2 And he said Yahweh to me saying.
Et Yahweh me dit:
3 [is] enough For you going round the hill country this turn yourselves north-ward.
« Vous avez assez tourné autour de cette montagne; reprenez la direction du nord.
4 And the people command saying you [are] about to pass in [the] territory of relatives your [the] descendants of Esau who dwell in Seir so they may be afraid from you and you will take heed exceedingly.
Donne cet ordre au peuple: Vous allez passer sur la frontière de vos frères, les enfants d'Esaü, qui habitent en Séïr. Ils auront peur de vous; mais prenez bien garde
5 May not you engage in strife with them for not I will give to you any of land their up to a treading place of [the] sole of a foot for a possession to Esau I have given [the] hill country of Seir.
d'avoir des démêlés avec eux, car je ne vous donnerai rien dans leur pays, pas même ce que peut couvrir la plante du pied: j'ai donné à Esaü la montagne de Séïr en propriété.
6 Food you will buy from with them for silver and you will eat and also water you will buy from with them for silver and you will drink.
Vous achèterez d'eux à prix d'argent la nourriture que vous mangerez, et vous achèterez d'eux à prix d'argent même l'eau que vous boirez.
7 For Yahweh God your he has blessed you in all [the] work of hand your he has known walking you the wilderness great this this - forty year[s] Yahweh God your [has been] with you not you have lacked anything.
Car Yahweh ton Dieu t'a béni dans tout le travail de tes mains, il a connu ta marche à travers ce grand désert; voilà quarante ans que Yahweh, ton Dieu, est avec toi: tu n'as manqué de rien. »
8 And we passed away from with relatives our [the] descendants of Esau who were dwelling in Seir from [the] way of the desert plain from Elath and from Ezion Geber. And we turned and we passed along [the] way of [the] wilderness of Moab.
Nous passâmes donc à distance de nos frères, les enfants d'Esaü, qui habitent en Séïr, nous éloignant du chemin de l'Arabah, d'Elath et d'Asiongaber; nous nous détournâmes et nous prîmes la direction du désert de Moab.
9 And he said Yahweh to me to you may provoke Moab and may not you engage in strife with them battle for not I will give to you any of land his a possession for to [the] descendants of Lot I have given Ar a possession.
Yahweh me dit: « N'attaque pas Moab et n'engage pas de combat avec lui, car je ne te donnerai aucune possession dans son pays: c'est aux enfants de Lot que j'ai donné Ar en propriété.
10 The Emites before they dwelt in it a people great and numerous and lofty like the Anakites.
— Les Emim y habitaient auparavant, peuple grand, nombreux et de haute taille, comme les Enacim.
11 Rephaites they were regarded also they like the Anakites and the Moabites they called them Emites.
Eux aussi sont regardés comme des Rephaïm, de même que les Enacim; mais les Moabites les appellent Emim.
12 And in Seir they dwelt the Horites before and [the] descendants of Esau they dispossessed them and they destroyed them from before them and they dwelt in place of them just as it did Israel to [the] land of possession its which he gave Yahweh to them.
En Séïr habitaient aussi jadis les Horrhéens; mais les enfants d'Esaü les chassèrent et, les ayant détruits de devant eux, ils s'établirent à leur place, comme l'a fait Israël pour le pays qu'il possède et que Yahweh lui a donné. —
13 Now arise and pass over yourselves [the] wadi of Zered and we passed over [the] wadi of Zered.
Maintenant, levez-vous et passez le torrent de Zared. » Et nous passâmes le torrent de Zared.
14 And the days which we walked - from Kadesh Barnea until that we passed over [the] wadi of Zered [were] thirty and eight year[s] until was finished all the generation [the] men of war from [the] midst of the camp just as he had sworn Yahweh to them.
Le temps que durèrent nos marches, de Cadès-Barné au passage du torrent de Zared, fut de trente-huit ans, jusqu'à ce que toute la génération des hommes de guerre eût disparu du milieu du camp, comme Yahweh le leur avait juré.
15 And also [the] hand of Yahweh it was on them to disturb them from [the] midst of the camp until were finished they.
La main de Yahweh fut aussi sur eux pour les détruire du milieu du camp, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent disparu.
16 And it was just when they had finished all [the] men of war to die from [the] midst of the people.
Lorsque la mort eut fait disparaître tous les hommes de guerre du milieu du peuple,
17 And he spoke Yahweh to me saying.
Yahweh me parla, en disant:
18 You [are] about to pass over this day [the] border of Moab Ar.
« Tu vas passer aujourd'hui la frontière de Moab, Ar,
19 And you will draw near in front of [the] people of Ammon may not you provoke them and may not you engage in strife with them for not I will give any of [the] land of [the] people of Ammon to you a possession for to [the] descendants of Lot I have given it a possession.
et tu approcheras des enfants d'Ammon. Ne les attaque pas et n'aie pas de démêlés avec eux, car je ne te donnerai aucune possession dans le pays des enfants d'Ammon: c'est aux enfants de Lot que je l'ai donné en possession.
20 [the] land of [the] Rephaites It was regarded also it [the] Rephaites they dwelt in it before and the Ammonites they called them Zamzummites.
— On regardait aussi ce pays comme un pays de Rephaïm; des Rephaïm y habitaient auparavant, et les Ammonites les appelaient Zomzommim:
21 A people great and numerous and lofty like the Anakites and he destroyed them Yahweh from before them and they dispossessed them and they dwelt in place of them.
peuple grand, nombreux et de haute taille, comme les Enacim, Yahweh les détruisit devant les Ammonites, qui les chassèrent et s'établirent à leur place.
22 Just as he had done for [the] descendants of Esau who were dwelling in Seir whom he destroyed the Horite[s] from before them and they dispossessed them and they have dwelt in place of them until the day this.
C'est ainsi que fit Yahweh pour les enfants d'Esaü qui habitent en Séïr, lorsqu'il détruisit devant eux les Horrhéens; les ayant chassés, ils s'établirent à leur place jusqu'à ce jour.
23 And the Avvites who were dwelling in villages to Gaza [the] Caphtorites who came forth from Caphtor they destroyed them and they dwelt in place of them.
De même les Hévéens, qui habitaient dans des villages jusqu'à Gaza, furent détruits par les Caphtorim, qui, étant sortis de Caphtor, s'établirent à leur place. —
24 Arise set out and pass over [the] wadi of Arnon see I give in hand your Sihon [the] king of Heshbon the Amorite and land his begin take possession of [it] and engage in strife with him battle.
Levez-vous, partez et passez le torrent de l'Arnon. Voici que je livre entre tes mains Séhon, roi de Hésebon, Amorrhéens, ainsi que son pays. Commence à t'en emparer, engage le combat avec lui!
25 The day this I will begin to put dread your and fear your on [the] face of the peoples under all the heavens who they will hear! report your and they will tremble and they will be in anguish because of you.
Dès aujourd'hui je vais répandre la frayeur et la crainte de ton nom sur tous les peuples qui sont sous tous les cieux, en sorte que, au bruit de ta renommée, ils trembleront et seront dans l'angoisse à cause de toi. »
26 And I sent messengers from [the] wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon [the] king of Heshbon words of peace saying.
Du désert de Cademoth, j'envoyai des messagers à Séhon, roi de Hésebon, avec des paroles de paix, lui faisant dire:
27 Let me pass in land your on the road on the road I will go not I will turn aside right [hand] and left [hand].
« Que je puisse passer par ton pays; je suivrai le grand chemin, sans m'écarter ni à droite ni à gauche.
28 Food for silver you will sell me and I will eat and water for silver you will give to me and I will drink only let me pass through on feet my.
Tu me vendras à prix d'argent la nourriture que je mangerai, et tu me donneras à prix d'argent l'eau que je boirai; je ne veux que passer avec mes pieds:
29 Just as they did for me [the] descendants of Esau who dwell in Seir and the Moabites who dwell in Ar until that I will pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh God our [is] about to give to us.
— C'est ce qu'on fait pour moi les enfants d'Esaü qui habitent en Séïr, et les Moabites qui habitent à Ar: — jusqu'à ce que je passe le Jourdain pour entrer dans le pays que Yahweh, notre Dieu, nous donne. »
30 And not he was willing Sihon [the] king of Heshbon to let pass us in him for he had made stubborn Yahweh God your spirit his and he had made obstinate heart his so as to give him in hand your as the day this.
Mais Séhon, roi de Hésebon, ne voulut pas nous laisser passer chez lui, car Yahweh, ton Dieu, avait endurci son esprit et rendu son cœur inflexible, afin de le livrer entre tes mains, comme tu le vois aujourd'hui.
31 And he said Yahweh to me see I have begun to deliver up before you Sihon and land his begin take possession to take possession of land his.
Yahweh me dit: « Voici que j'ai commencé de te livrer Séhon et son pays. Commence à le conquérir afin de prendre possession de son pays. »
32 And he came forth Sihon to meet us he and all people his for battle Jahaz towards.
Séhon sortit à notre rencontre, avec tout son peuple, pour nous livrer bataille à Jasa.
33 And he delivered up him Yahweh God our before us and we struck down him and (sons his *Q(K)*) and all people his.
Et Yahweh, notre Dieu, nous le livra et nous le battîmes, lui et ses fils, et tout son peuple.
34 And we captured all cities his at the time that and we totally destroyed every city of men and the women and the little one[s] not we spared a survivor.
Nous prîmes alors toutes ses villes et nous dévouâmes par anathème toute ville, les hommes, les femmes et les enfants, sans en laisser échapper un seul.
35 Only the livestock we plundered for ourselves and [the] booty of the cities which we had captured.
Seulement, nous pillâmes pour nous le bétail et le butin des villes que nous avions prises.
36 From Aroer which [is] on [the] edge of [the] wadi of Arnon and the city which [is] in the wadi and to Gilead not it was a town which it was [too] high for us every one he delivered up Yahweh God our before us.
Depuis Aroër qui est sur le bord de la vallée d'Arnon, et depuis la ville qui est dans la vallée, jusqu'à Galaad, il n'y eut pas de ville trop inaccessible pour nous; Yahweh, notre Dieu, nous les livra toutes.
37 Only to [the] land of [the] people of Ammon not you drew near all [the] side of [the] wadi of Jabbok and [the] cities of the hill country and all that he had commanded Yahweh God our.
Mais tu n'approchas pas du pays des enfants d'Ammon, ni d'aucun endroit qui est sur le bord du torrent de Jaboc, ni des villes de la montagne, ni d'aucun des lieux dont Yahweh, notre Dieu, t'avait défendu de t'emparer.
