2 Chronicles 32
1 After the matters and the faithfulness these he came Sennacherib [the] king of Assyria and he came in Judah and he encamped on the cities fortified and he said to break into them to himself.
Nogen tid efterat Esekias hadde utført dette og vist sådan troskap, kom kongen i Assyria Sankerib og drog inn i Juda; han kringsatte de faste byer og tenkte han skulde få dem i sin makt.
2 And he saw Hezekiah that he had come Sennacherib and face his [was] for war on Jerusalem.
Da Esekias fikk vite at Sankerib var kommet og hadde i sinne å angripe Jerusalem,
3 And he took counsel with officials his and mighty [men] his to stop up [the] waters of the springs which [were] from [the] outside of the city and they helped him.
rådslo han med sine høvdinger og sine ypperste stridsmenn om å tilstoppe vannet i kildene utenfor byen; og de hjalp ham.
4 And they assembled people numerous and they stopped up all the springs and the wadi which flowed in [the] middle of the land saying why? will they come [the] kings of Assyria and they will find waters many.
Det samlet sig da meget folk, og de tilstoppet alle kildene og den bekk som rant midt igjennem landet; for de sa: Hvorfor skulde assyrerkongene komme og finne rikelig vann?
5 And he strengthened himself and he rebuilt all the city wall which was broken down and he put up on the towers and to the outside the city wall another and he strengthened the Millo [the] city of David and he made weapon[s] to abundance and shields.
Så tok han mot til sig og bygget op igjen hele den mur som var revet ned, og førte den helt op til tårnene, og utenfor bygget han en annen mur; han satte også Millo i Davids stad i fast stand og lot gjøre kastevåben i mengde og skjold.
6 And he appointed commanders of wars over the people and he assembled them to himself to [the] open place of [the] gate of the city and he spoke to heart their saying.
Og han satte krigshøvedsmenn over folket og samlet dem hos sig på plasser ved byporten og talte til dem for å vekke deres mot og sa:
7 Be strong and be courageous may not you be afraid and may not you be dismayed because of [the] king of Assyria and from before all the multitude which [is] with him for [is] with us [one] great more than with him.
Vær frimodige og sterke, frykt ikke og reddes ikke for kongen i Assyria og hele den hær han har med sig! For med oss er der en større enn der er med ham;
8 [is] with Him an arm of flesh and [is] with us Yahweh God our to help us and to fight battles our and they supported themselves the people on [the] words of Hezekiah [the] king of Judah.
med ham er en arm av kjød, men med oss er Herren vår Gud, og han skal hjelpe oss og føre våre kriger. Og folket stolte på Esekias' Judas konges ord.
9 After this he sent Sennacherib [the] king of Assyria servants his Jerusalem towards and he [was] at Lachish and all imperial might his [was] with him to Hezekiah [the] king of Judah and to all Judah which [was] in Jerusalem saying.
Derefter sendte kongen i Assyria Sankerib, som selv lå for Lakis med hele sin krigsmakt, sine tjenere til Jerusalem, til Judas konge Esekias og til alle dem av Juda som var i Jerusalem, og lot si:
10 Thus he says Sennacherib [the] king of Assyria on what? [are] you relying and remaining in siege in Jerusalem.
Så sier Sankerib, kongen i Assyria: Hvad er det I setter eders lit til, siden I blir sittende innestengt i Jerusalem!
11 ¿ Not [is] Hezekiah misleading you to give you to die by hunger and by thirst saying Yahweh God our he will deliver us from [the] hand of [the] king of Assyria.
Esekias forfører eder bare for å la eder dø av hunger og tørst, når han sier: Herren vår Gud skal redde oss av assyrerkongens hånd.
12 ¿ Not that Hezekiah did he remove high places his and altars his and did he say? to Judah and to Jerusalem saying before an altar one you will bow down and on it you will make smoke.
Har ikke denne Esekias tatt hans offerhauger og hans altere bort og sagt til Juda og Jerusalem: Bare foran ett alter skal I tilbede, og på det skal I brenne røkelse?
13 ¿ Not do you know what? have I done I and fathers my to all [the] peoples of the lands ¿ really were they able [the] gods of [the] nations of the lands to deliver land their from hand my.
Vet I ikke hvad jeg har gjort, jeg og mine fedre, med alle folkene rundt om i landene? Har vel de guder som dyrkes av folkene rundt om i landene, maktet å redde sine land av min hånd?
14 Who? among all [the] gods of the nations these which they totally destroyed fathers my [is one] which it was able to deliver people its from hand my that he will be able God your to deliver you from hand my.
Hvem av alle gudene hos disse folk som mine fedre har utryddet, er det som har maktet å redde sitt folk av min hånd, og så skulde eders Gud makte å redde eder av min hånd?
15 And therefore may not he deceive you Hezekiah and may not he mislead you like this and may not you believe him for not it has been able any god of any nation and kingdom to deliver people its from hand my and from [the] hand of fathers my indeed? for gods your not they will deliver you from hand my.
Så la nu ikke Esekias få narret eder! La ham ikke således forføre eder! Tro ham ikke! For ingen gud hos noget folk eller rike har maktet å redde sitt folk av min hånd eller av mine fedres hånd; hvor meget mindre vil da eders guder kunne redde eder av min hånd!
16 And again they spoke servants his on Yahweh God and on Hezekiah servant his.
Og ennu flere ord talte hans tjenere mot Gud Herren og mot hans tjener Esekias.
17 And letters he wrote to taunt Yahweh [the] God of Israel and to say on him saying like [the] gods of [the] nations of the lands which not they delivered people their from hand my so not he will deliver [the] God of Hezekiah people his from hand my.
Han skrev også et brev for å håne Herren, Israels Gud, og tale mot ham; i det stod det: Likesom folkenes guder rundt om i landene ikke har reddet sine folk av min hånd, således skal heller ikke Esekias' Gud redde sitt folk av min hånd.
18 And they called out with a voice great [in] Judean to [the] people of Jerusalem which [was] on the wall to make afraid them and to terrify them so that they may capture the city.
Og de ropte med høi røst på jødisk til folket i Jerusalem som stod på muren, for å skremme og forferde dem, så de kunde innta byen;
19 And they spoke concerning [the] God of Jerusalem as on [the] gods of [the] peoples of the land [the] work of [the] hands of humankind.
og de talte om Jerusalems Gud på samme vis som om folkenes guder på jorden, de som er et verk av menneskehender.
20 And he prayed Hezekiah the king and Isaiah [the] son of Amoz the prophet on this and they cried out the heavens.
Da kong Esekias og profeten Esaias, Amos' sønn hørte dette, bad de og ropte til himmelen.
21 And he sent Yahweh an angel and he annihilated every mighty [man] of strength and officer and commander in [the] camp of [the] king of Assyria and he returned with shame of face to own land his and he came [the] house of god his (and some of [the] offspring of *Q(K)*) lower parts his there they made fall him by the sword.
Og Herren sendte en engel som tilintetgjorde alle de djerve stridsmenn og fyrstene og høvedsmennene i assyrerkongens leir, så han med skam måtte vende tilbake til sitt land. Og da han engang gikk inn i sin guds hus, kom nogen av hans egne sønner og hugg ham ned der med sverdet.
22 And he saved Yahweh Hezekiah and - [the] inhabitants of Jerusalem from [the] hand of Sennacherib [the] king of Assyria and from [the] hand of everyone and he led them from round about.
Således frelste Herren Esekias og Jerusalems innbyggere av assyrerkongen Sankeribs hånd og av alle andre fienders hånd og vernet dem til alle sider.
23 And many [people] [were] bringing an offering to Yahweh to Jerusalem and excellent things to Hezekiah [the] king of Judah and he was lifted up to [the] eyes of all the nations from after thus.
Det var mange som kom til Jerusalem med gaver til Herren og med kostbare ting til Judas konge Esekias; og han blev efter dette høit æret blandt alle folk.
24 In the days those he was sick Hezekiah until die and he prayed to Yahweh and he spoke to him and a sign he gave to him.
Ved den tid blev Esekias dødssyk; da bad han til Herren, og Herren svarte ham og gav ham et underfullt tegn.
25 And not according to [the] benefit on him he repaid Hezekiah for it was haughty heart his and it was towards him wrath and towards Judah and Jerusalem.
Men Esekias gjengjeldte ikke den velgjerning som var vist ham; han blev overmodig i sitt hjerte, og det kom vrede over ham og over Juda og Jerusalem.
26 And he humbled himself Hezekiah in [the] haughtiness of heart his he and [the] inhabitants of Jerusalem and not it came towards them [the] wrath of Yahweh in [the] days of Hezekiah.
Da ydmyket Esekias sig, fordi han hadde vært overmodig i sitt hjerte, og det samme gjorde Jerusalems innbyggere; derfor kom Herrens vrede ikke over dem så lenge Esekias levde.
27 And it belonged to Hezekiah wealth and honor great exceedingly and treasuries he made for himself for silver and for gold and for stone[s] precious and for spices and for shields and for all articles of preciousness.
Esekias hadde overmåte stor rikdom og ære; han gjorde sig skattkammere, hvor han gjemte sølv og gull og dyre stener og krydderier og skjold og alle slags kostbare ting;
28 And storehouses for [the] yield of grain and new wine and fresh oil and stalls for all livestock and livestock and flocks for the stalls.
og han gjorde sig forrådshus for det som blev avlet av korn og most og olje, og fjøs for alle slags fe, og han la sig til buskap for sine fjøs.
29 And cities he made for himself and livestock of flock and herd to abundance for he had given to him God property much very.
Likeledes bygget han byer og fikk sig en mengde med småfe og storfe; for Gud hadde gitt ham overmåte meget gods.
30 And he Hezekiah he stopped up [the] outlet of [the] waters of Gihon upper and he directed them downwards west-ward of [the] city of David and he prospered Hezekiah in every deed his.
Det var også Esekias som tilstoppet det øvre utløp av Gihonvannet og ledet det ned vestenfor Davids stad. I alt det han tok sig fore, hadde han lykke med sig,
31 And thus in [the] envoys of - [the] officials of Babylon who sent to him to enquire the sign which it had happened in the land he left him God to put to [the] test him to know everything in heart his.
således også da sendemennene kom fra Babels fyrster, som sendte bud til ham for å spørre om det underfulle tegn som var skjedd i landet; Gud forlot ham bare for å sette ham på prøve og for å kjenne alt hvad som var i hans hjerte.
32 And [the] rest of [the] matters of Hezekiah and covenant loyalti his there they [are] written in [the] vision of Isaiah [the] son of Amoz the prophet on [the] scroll of [the] kings of Judah and Israel.
Hvad som ellers er å fortelle om Esekias og hans fromme gjerninger, det er opskrevet i profeten Esaias', Amos' sønns syn i boken om Judas og Israels konger.
33 And he lay down Hezekiah with ancestors his and people buried him at [the] ascent of [the] graves of [the] descendants of David and honor they did to him at death his all Judah and [the] inhabitants of Jerusalem and he became king Manasseh son his in place of him.
Og Esekias la sig til hvile hos sine fedre, og de begravde ham ved opgangen til Davids efterkommeres graver. Hele Juda og Jerusalems innbyggere viste ham stor ære ved hans død. Og hans sønn Manasse blev konge i hans sted.
