2 Chronicles 17
1 And he became king Jehoshaphat son his in place of him and he strengthened himself on Israel.
Son fils Josaphat lui succéda. Il s’arma fortement contre Israël.
2 And he put an army in all [the] cities of Judah fortified and he put garrisons in [the] land of Judah and in [the] cities of Ephraim which he had captured Asa father his.
Il mit des garnisons dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, et établit des postes militaires dans le pays de Juda et dans les villes d’Ephraïm que son père Asa avait conquises.
3 And he was Yahweh with Jehoshaphat for he walked in [the] ways of David ancestor his former and not he sought the Baals.
Le Seigneur fut avec Josaphat, parce qu’il marchait dans les voies que son aïeul David avait suivies tout d’abord et ne recherchait pas les Bealim.
4 For [the] God of father his he sought and in commandments his he walked and not according to [the] deed[s] of Israel.
Mais il recherchait le Dieu de ses pères et suivait ses préceptes, s’écartant en cela de la manière d’agir d’Israël.
5 And he established Yahweh the kingdom in hand his and they gave all Judah tribute to Jehoshaphat and it belonged to him wealth and honor to abundance.
Aussi le Seigneur affermit-il la royauté en ses mains; tout Juda apportait des présents à Josaphat, et il acquit en abondance richesses et gloire.
6 And it was high heart his in [the] ways of Yahweh and again he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
Son cœur grandit par sa constance dans les voies du Seigneur, et il alla jusqu’à faire disparaître de Juda les hauts lieux et les statues d’Astarté.
7 And in year three of reigning his he sent officials his Ben-Hail and Obadiah and Zechariah and Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in [the] cities of Judah.
Dans la troisième année de son règne, il envoya ses grands dignitaires, Ben-Haïl, Obadia, Zacharie, Nethanel et Mikhaïahou pour propager l’instruction dans les villes de Juda.
8 And [were] with them the Levites Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel (and Shemiramoth *Q(K)*) and Jonathan and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah the Levites and [were] with them Elishama and Jehoram the priests.
Il leur adjoignit les Lévites Chemaïahou, Netaniahou, Zebadiahou, Assahel, Chemiramot, Jonathan, Adoniahou, Tobiahou et Tob-Adonia, tous Lévites, accompagnés des prêtres Elichama et Joram.
9 And they taught in Judah and [was] with them [the] book of [the] law of Yahweh and they went round in all [the] cities of Judah and they taught among the people.
Ils enseignèrent dans Juda, portant avec eux le Livre de la Loi de l’Eternel; ils firent le tour de toutes les villes de Juda et instruisaient le peuple.
10 And it was - [the] dread of Yahweh on all [the] kingdoms of the lands which [were] around Judah and not they waged war with Jehoshaphat.
La terreur de l’Eternel s’empara de tous les empires qui entouraient Juda, et ils s’abstinrent de faire la guerre à Josaphat.
11 And some of [the] Philistines [were] bringing to Jehoshaphat tribute and silver a load also the Arabs [were] bringing to him flock[s] rams seven thousand and seven hundred and male goats seven thousand and seven hundred.
Des Philistins apportèrent à Josaphat des présents et de l’argent en masse. Les Arabes également lui amenèrent, en fait de menu bétail, sept mille sept cents béliers et sept mille sept cents boucs.
12 And it was Jehoshaphat [was] going and [was] becoming great to upwards and he built in Judah fortresses and cities of storage.
Josaphat allait ainsi grandissant au plus haut degré, et il bâtit dans Juda des châteaux forts et des villes d’approvisionnement.
13 And property much it belonged to him in [the] cities of Judah and men of war mighty [men] of strength [were] in Jerusalem.
Il eut un grand attirail dans les villes de Juda et des combattants, valeureux guerriers, à Jérusalem.
14 And these [were] group[s] their to [the] house of ancestors their of Judah commanders of thousands Adnah [was] the commander and [were] with him mighty [men] of strength three hundred thousand.
Voici leur dénombrement d’après leurs familles: pour Juda, il y avait des chiliarques dont le commandant en chef était Adna; il avait sous ses ordres trois cent mille vaillants guerriers.
15 And on hand his Jehohanan the commander and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.
A côté de lui, Johanan était commandant, ayant sous ses ordres deux cent quatre-vingt mille hommes.
16 And on hand his Amasiah [the] son of Zikri who volunteered to Yahweh and with him two hundred thousand mighty [man] of strength.
A côté de lui était Amassia, fils de Zikhri, qui s’était dévoué au Seigneur; il avait sous ses ordres deux cent mille vaillants guerriers.
17 And from Benjamin a mighty [man] of strength Eliada and with him [men] equipped of bow and shield two hundred thousand.
A Benjamin appartenait le vaillant chef d’armée Elyada, qui commandait à deux cent mille hommes armés d’arcs et de boucliers.
18 And on hand his Jehozabad and with him one hundred and eighty thousand [men] equipped of war.
A côté de lui, Yozabad avait sous ses ordres cent quatre-vingt mille hommes armés en guerre.
19 These [were] the [ones who] served the king besides [those] whom he put the king in [the] cities of fortification in all Judah.
Tous ceux-là étaient au service du roi, non compris les garnisons que le roi avait placées dans les villes fortes de tout Juda.
