< 2 Chronicles 10 >
1 And he went Rehoboam Shechem towards for Shechem they had come all Israel to make king him.
Forsothe Roboam yede forth in to Sichem; for al Israel came togidere thidur to make hym kyng.
2 And it was when heard Jeroboam [the] son of Nebat and he [was] in Egypt where he had fled from before Solomon the king and he returned Jeroboam from Egypt.
And whanne Jeroboam, the sone of Nabath, that was in Egipt, `for he fledde thidur bifor Salomon, hadde herd this, he turnyde ayen anoon.
3 And people sent and they summoned him and he came Jeroboam and all Israel and they spoke to Rehoboam saying.
And thei clepiden hym, and he cam with al Israel, and thei spaken to Roboam, and seiden,
4 Father your he made hard yoke our and therefore lighten some of [the] labor of father your hard and some of yoke his heavy which he put on us and we will serve you.
Thi fadir oppresside vs with ful hard yok; comaunde thou liytere thingis than thi fader, that settide on vs a greuouse seruage; and releese thou a litil of `the birthun, that we serue thee. And he seide,
5 And he said to them again three days and return to me and it went the people.
After thre daies turne ye ayen to me. And whanne the puple was goon, he took counsel with elde men,
6 And he consulted the king Rehoboam with the elders who they had been standing before Solomon father his when was he alive saying how? [are] you counseling to bring back to the people this word.
that stoden bifor his fadir Salomon, while he lyuyde yit, and seide, What counsel yyuen ye, that Y answere to the puple?
7 And they spoke to him saying if you will become good to the people this and you will be favorable to them and you will speak to them words kind and they will be of you servants all the days.
And thei seiden to hym, If thou plesist this puple, and makist hem softe bi meke wordis, thei schulen serue thee in al tyme.
8 And he abandoned [the] counsel of the elders which they had counseled him and he consulted with the youths who they had grown up with him who stood before him.
And he forsook the counsel of elde men, and bigan to trete with yonge men, that weren nurischid with hym, and weren in his cumpenye.
9 And he said to them what? [are] you counseling and we may bring back word the people this who they have spoken to me saying lighten some of the yoke which he put father your on us.
And he seide to hem, What semeth to you? ether what owe Y answere to this puple, that seide to me, Releese thou the yok, which thi fadir puttide on vs?
10 And they spoke with him the youths who they had grown up with him saying thus you will say to the people which they have spoken to you saying father your he made heavy yoke our and you lighten from on us thus you will say to them little finger my it is thick more than [the] loins of father my.
And thei answeriden, as yonge men and nurschyd with hym in delicis, and seiden, Thus thou schalt speke to the puple that seide to thee, Thi fadir made greuouse oure yok, releese thou; and thus thou schalt answere to hem, My leeste fyngur is gretter than the leendis of my fader;
11 And therefore father my he loaded on you a yoke heavy and I I will add to yoke your father my he disciplined you with whips and I with scorpions.
my fadir puttide on you a greuouse yok, and Y schal leie to a gretter birthun; my fadir beet you with scourgis, forsothe Y schal bete you with `scorpiouns, that is, hard knottid roopis.
12 And he came Jeroboam and all the people to Rehoboam on the day third just as he had spoken the king saying return to me on the day third.
Therfor Jeroboam and al the puple cam to Roboam in the thridde dai, as he hadde comaundid to hem.
13 And he answered them the king hard and he abandoned the king Rehoboam [the] counsel of the elders.
And `the kyng answeride harde thingis, after that he hadde forsake the counsel of the eldere men,
14 And he spoke to them according to [the] counsel of the young men saying I will make heavy yoke your and I I will add to it father my he disciplined you with whips and I with scorpions.
and he spak bi the wille of the yonge men, My fadir puttide on you a greuouse yok, which Y schal make greuousere; my fadir beet you with scourgis, sotheli Y schal bete you with scorpiouns.
15 And not he listened the king to the people for it was a turn from with God so as to establish Yahweh word his which he had spoken by [the] hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam [the] son of Nebat.
And he assentide not to the preieris of the puple; for it was the wille of God, that his word schulde be fillid, which he hadde spoke bi the hond of Ahie of Silo to Jeroboam, sone of Nabath.
16 And all Israel that not he had listened the king to them and they brought back the people the king - saying what? [belongs] to us portion in David and not an inheritance in [the] son of Jesse everyone to tents your O Israel now consider own house your O David and it went all Israel to tents its.
Sotheli whanne the kyng seide hardere thingis, al the puple spak thus to hym, No part is to vs in Dauid, nether eritage in the sone of Isai; Israel, turne thou ayen in to thi tabernaclis, sotheli thou, Dauid, feede thin hows. And Israel yede in to hise tabernaclis.
17 And [the] people of Israel who were dwelling in [the] cities of Judah and he reigned over them Rehoboam.
Forsothe Roboam regnede on the sones of Israel, that dwelliden in the citees of Juda.
18 And he sent the king Rehoboam Hadoram who [was] over the forced labor and they stoned him [the] people of Israel stone[s] and he died and the king Rehoboam he proved himself strong to go up in the chariot to flee Jerusalem.
And kyng Roboam sente Adhuram, that was souereyn ouer the tributis; and the sones of Israel stonyden hym, and he was deed. Certis kyng Roboam hastide to stie in to the chare, and fledde in to Jerusalem.
19 And they have rebelled Israel against [the] house of David until the day this.
And Israel yede awei fro the hows of Dauid `til to this dai. Forsothe it was doon, whanne al Israel hadde herd, that Jeroboam turnede ayen, thei senten, and clepiden hym, whanne the cumpeny was gaderid, and thei ordeyneden him king on al Israel; and no man, outakun the lynage of Juda aloone, suede `the hows of Dauid.
