< 1 Samuel 4 >

1 And it came [the] word of Samuel to all Israel and it went out Israel to meet [the] Philistines for battle and they encamped at Eben-ezer and [the] Philistines they encamped at Aphek.
2 And they deployed [the] Philistines to meet Israel and it spread out the battle and it was defeated Israel before [the] Philistines and they struck down in the battle line in the field about four thousand man.
3 And it came the people into the camp and they said [the] elders of Israel why? has he defeated us Yahweh this day before [the] Philistines let us bring to ourselves from Shiloh [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh so it may come in midst our so it may deliver us from [the] hand of enemies our.
A, no te taenga o nga tangata ki te puni, ka mea nga kaumatua o Iharaira, He aha tatou i patua ai e Ihowa inaianei i te aroaro o nga Pirihitini? Me tiki atu ki a tatou te aaka o te kawenata a Ihowa i Hiro, kia tae mai ki roto i a tatou, hei whaka ora i a tatou i te ringa o o tatou hoariri.
4 And it sent the people Shiloh and they brought from there [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh of hosts [who] sits the cherubim and [were] there [the] two [the] sons of Eli with [the] ark of [the] covenant of God Hophni and Phinehas.
5 And it was when came [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh into the camp and they shouted all Israel a shout great and it was stirred the ground.
6 And they heard [the] Philistines [the] sound of the shout and they said what? [is] [the] sound of the shout great this in [the] camp of the Hebrews and they knew that [the] ark of Yahweh it had come into the camp.
7 And they were afraid the Philistines for they said he has come a god into the camp and they said woe! to us for not it has been like this yesterday three days ago.
Na ka mea ratou, Aue, te mate mo tatou! kahore hoki he mea penei me tenei i mua ake nei.
8 Woe! to us who? will he deliver us from [the] hand of the gods mighty these these they [are] the gods who struck Egypt with every plague in the wilderness.
Aue, te mate mo tatou! ma wai tatou e whakaora i roto i te ringa o enei atua nui? ko nga atua enei nana nga whakapanga mate katoa i patua ai nga Ihipiana i te koraha.
9 Show yourselves strong and become men O Philistines lest you should serve the Hebrews just as they have served you and you will become men and you will fight.
Kia maia, whakatane i a koutou, e nga Pirihitini, kei whakataurerekatia koutou e nga Hiperu, kei peratia me ratou i whakataurerekatia na e koutou: na, me whakatane koutou, me whawhai.
10 And they fought [the] Philistines and it was defeated Israel and they fled each man to own tents his and it was the slaughter great exceedingly and he fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldier[s].
Na ka whawhai nga Pirihitini, a patua ana a Iharaira, a rere ana ki tona teneti, ki tona teneti: he tino nui rawa te parekua; e toru tekau mano hoki o Iharaira i hinga, he hunga haere raro.
11 And [the] ark of God it was taken and [the] two [the] sons of Eli they died Hophni and Phinehas.
Na riro ana te aaka a te Atua; i mate hoki a Hoponi raua ko Pinehaha, nga tama tokorua a Eri.
12 And he ran [the] man of Benjamin from the battle line and he came Shiloh on the day that and garments his [were] torn and earth [was] on head his.
Na ka rere tetahi tangata o Pineamine i te ope, tae tonu atu ki Hiro i taua ra ano, he mea haehae ona kakahu, he oneone hoki i runga i tona matenga.
13 And he came and there! Eli [was] sitting on the seat ([the] side of *Q(K)*) [the] road watching for it was heart his trembling on [the] ark of God and the man he came to tell in the city and it cried out all the city.
14 And he heard Eli [the] sound of the outcry and he said what? [is] [the] sound of the uproar this and the man he hurried and he came and he told to Eli.
A ka rongo a Eri i te reo e hamama ana, ka mea ia, He reo aha tenei e ngangau nei?
15 And Eli [was] a son of ninety and eight year[s] and eyes his it was set and not he was able to see.
16 And he said the man to Eli I [am] the [one who] comes from the battle line and I from the battle line I have fled this day and he said what? was it the word O son my.
Na ka mea taua tangata ki a Eri, Ko ahau tenei i puta mai i roto i te ope, i rere tonu mai inaianei i te ope. Ka mea tera, I pehea te mea ra, e taku tama?
17 And he answered the bearer of news and he said it has fled Israel before [the] Philistines and also a slaughter great it has been among the people and also [the] two sons your they have died Hophni and Phinehas and [the] ark of God it has been taken.
18 And it was when brought to remembrance he - [the] ark of God and he fell from on the seat backwards behind - [the] side of the gate and it was broken neck his and he died for he was old the man and heavy and he he had judged Israel forty year[s].
A, no tana whakahuatanga i te aaka a te Atua, hinga ana tera ki muri i runga i te nohoanga, ki te taha o te kuwaha, a whati iho tona kaki, mate ake: he koroheke hoki ia, he taimaha. Na e wha tekau nga tau i whakarite ai ia mo Iharaira.
19 And daughter-in-law his [the] wife of Phinehas [was] pregnant to give birth and she heard the report concerning [the] being taken of [the] ark of God and he had died father-in-law her and husband her and she bowed down and she gave birth for they turned on her pangs her.
20 And about [the] time of dying she and they spoke those [who] were standing over her may not you be afraid for a son you have borne and not she answered and not she set heart her.
A i a ia e whakahemohemo ana, ka mea nga wahine e tu ana i tona taha, Kaua e wehi; he tane hoki tenei tamaiti au. Heoi kahore ana kupu i whakahoki ai, kihai ano hoki i anga mai tona ngakau.
21 And she called the lad I-chabod saying it has gone into exile glory from Israel because of [the] being taken of [the] ark of God and because of father-in-law her and husband her.
22 And she said it has gone into exile glory from Israel for it has been taken [the] ark of God.
I mea ano ia, Kua heke te kororia o Iharaira; kua riro nei hoki te aaka a te Atua.
