1 Samuel 4
1 And it came [the] word of Samuel to all Israel and it went out Israel to meet [the] Philistines for battle and they encamped at Eben-ezer and [the] Philistines they encamped at Aphek.
La parola di Samuele si rivolse a tutto Israele. In quei giorni i Filistei si radunarono per combattere contro Israele. Allora Israele scese in campo a dar battaglia ai Filistei. Essi si accamparono presso Eben-Ezer mentre i Filistei s'erano accampati in Afèk.
2 And they deployed [the] Philistines to meet Israel and it spread out the battle and it was defeated Israel before [the] Philistines and they struck down in the battle line in the field about four thousand man.
I Filistei si schierarono per attaccare Israele e la battaglia divampò, ma Israele ebbe la peggio di fronte ai Filistei e caddero sul campo, delle loro schiere, circa quattromila uomini.
3 And it came the people into the camp and they said [the] elders of Israel why? has he defeated us Yahweh this day before [the] Philistines let us bring to ourselves from Shiloh [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh so it may come in midst our so it may deliver us from [the] hand of enemies our.
Quando il popolo fu rientrato nell'accampamento, gli anziani d'Israele si chiesero: «Perché ci ha percossi oggi il Signore di fronte ai Filistei? Andiamo a prenderci l'arca del Signore a Silo, perché venga in mezzo a noi e ci liberi dalle mani dei nostri nemici».
4 And it sent the people Shiloh and they brought from there [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh of hosts [who] sits the cherubim and [were] there [the] two [the] sons of Eli with [the] ark of [the] covenant of God Hophni and Phinehas.
Il popolo mandò subito a Silo a prelevare l'arca del Dio degli eserciti che siede sui cherubini: c'erano con l'arca di Dio i due figli di Eli, Cofni e Pìncas.
5 And it was when came [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh into the camp and they shouted all Israel a shout great and it was stirred the ground.
Non appena l'arca del Signore giunse all'accampamento, gli Israeliti elevarono un urlo così forte che ne tremò la terra.
6 And they heard [the] Philistines [the] sound of the shout and they said what? [is] [the] sound of the shout great this in [the] camp of the Hebrews and they knew that [the] ark of Yahweh it had come into the camp.
Anche i Filistei udirono l'eco di quell'urlo e dissero: «Che significa il risuonare di quest'urlo così forte nell'accampamento degli Ebrei?». Poi vennero a sapere che era arrivata nel loro campo l'arca del Signore.
7 And they were afraid the Philistines for they said he has come a god into the camp and they said woe! to us for not it has been like this yesterday three days ago.
I Filistei ne ebbero timore e si dicevano: «E' venuto il loro Dio nel loro campo!», ed esclamavano: «Guai a noi, perché non è stato così né ieri né prima.
8 Woe! to us who? will he deliver us from [the] hand of the gods mighty these these they [are] the gods who struck Egypt with every plague in the wilderness.
Guai a noi! Chi ci libererà dalle mani di queste divinità così potenti? Queste divinità hanno colpito con ogni piaga l'Egitto nel deserto.
9 Show yourselves strong and become men O Philistines lest you should serve the Hebrews just as they have served you and you will become men and you will fight.
Risvegliate il coraggio e siate uomini, o Filistei, altrimenti sarete schiavi degli Ebrei, come essi sono stati vostri schiavi. Siate uomini dunque e combattete!».
10 And they fought [the] Philistines and it was defeated Israel and they fled each man to own tents his and it was the slaughter great exceedingly and he fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldier[s].
Quindi i Filistei attaccarono battaglia, Israele fu sconfitto e ciascuno fu costretto a fuggire nella sua tenda. La strage fu molto grande: dalla parte d'Israele caddero tremila fanti.
11 And [the] ark of God it was taken and [the] two [the] sons of Eli they died Hophni and Phinehas.
In più l'arca di Dio fu presa e i due figli di Eli, Cofni e Pìncas, morirono.
12 And he ran [the] man of Benjamin from the battle line and he came Shiloh on the day that and garments his [were] torn and earth [was] on head his.
Uno della tribù di Beniamino fuggì dalle file e venne a Silo il giorno stesso, con le vesti stracciate e polvere sul capo.
13 And he came and there! Eli [was] sitting on the seat ([the] side of *Q(K)*) [the] road watching for it was heart his trembling on [the] ark of God and the man he came to tell in the city and it cried out all the city.
Mentre giungeva, ecco Eli stava sul sedile presso la porta e scrutava la strada di Mizpa, perché aveva il cuore in ansia per l'arca di Dio. Venne dunque l'uomo e diede l'annuncio in città e tutta la città alzò lamenti.
14 And he heard Eli [the] sound of the outcry and he said what? [is] [the] sound of the uproar this and the man he hurried and he came and he told to Eli.
Eli, sentendo il rumore delle grida, si chiese: «Che sarà questo grido di tumulto?». Intanto l'uomo si avanzò in gran fretta e narrò a Eli ogni cosa.
15 And Eli [was] a son of ninety and eight year[s] and eyes his it was set and not he was able to see.
Eli era vecchio di novantotto anni, aveva gli occhi rigidi e non poteva più vedere.
16 And he said the man to Eli I [am] the [one who] comes from the battle line and I from the battle line I have fled this day and he said what? was it the word O son my.
Disse dunque quell'uomo a Eli: «Sono giunto dal campo. Sono fuggito oggi dalle schiere dei combattenti». Eli domandò: «Che è dunque accaduto, figlio mio?».
17 And he answered the bearer of news and he said it has fled Israel before [the] Philistines and also a slaughter great it has been among the people and also [the] two sons your they have died Hophni and Phinehas and [the] ark of God it has been taken.
Rispose il messaggero: «Israele è fuggito davanti ai Filistei e nel popolo v'è stata grande strage; inoltre i tuoi due figli Cofni e Pìncas sono morti e l'arca di Dio è stata presa!».
18 And it was when brought to remembrance he - [the] ark of God and he fell from on the seat backwards behind - [the] side of the gate and it was broken neck his and he died for he was old the man and heavy and he he had judged Israel forty year[s].
Appena ebbe accennato all'arca di Dio, Eli cadde all'indietro dal sedile sul lato della porta, battè la nuca e morì, perché era vecchio e pesante. Egli aveva giudicato Israele per quarant'anni.
19 And daughter-in-law his [the] wife of Phinehas [was] pregnant to give birth and she heard the report concerning [the] being taken of [the] ark of God and he had died father-in-law her and husband her and she bowed down and she gave birth for they turned on her pangs her.
La nuora di lui, moglie di Pìncas, incinta e prossima al parto, quando sentì la notizia che era stata presa l'arca di Dio e che erano morti il suocero e il marito, s'accosciò e partorì, colta dalle doglie.
20 And about [the] time of dying she and they spoke those [who] were standing over her may not you be afraid for a son you have borne and not she answered and not she set heart her.
Mentre era sul punto di morire, le dicevano quelle che le stavano attorno: «Non temere, hai partorito un figlio». Ma essa non rispose e non ne fece caso.
21 And she called the lad I-chabod saying it has gone into exile glory from Israel because of [the] being taken of [the] ark of God and because of father-in-law her and husband her.
Ma chiamò il bambino Icabod, cioè: «Se n'è andata lungi da Israele la gloria!» riferendosi alla cattura dell'arca di Dio e al suocero e al marito.
22 And she said it has gone into exile glory from Israel for it has been taken [the] ark of God.
La donna disse: «Se n'è andata lungi da Israele la gloria», perché era stata presa l'arca di Dio.
