1 Corinthians 14

1 do earnestly pursue love; do earnestly desire now spiritual gifts, especially now that you may prophesy.

Recherchez avec ardeur la charité. Aspirez aussi aux dons spirituels, et surtout au don de prophétie.

2 The [one] for speaking in a tongue not to men speaks but (*k*) to God; no [one] for hears, in the Spirit however he utters mysteries;

Car celui qui parle en langue inconnue ne parle pas aux hommes, mais à Dieu, puisque personne ne le comprend, — c'est sous l'inspiration de l'Esprit qu'il prononce des paroles mystérieuses —,

3 The [one] however prophesying to men speaks [for] edification and encouragement and consolation.

tandis que celui qui prophétise, parle aux hommes pour les édifier, les exhorter et les consoler.

4 The [one] speaking in a tongue himself edifies, the [one] however prophesying [the] church edifies.

Celui qui parle en langue inconnue, s'édifie lui-même; mais celui qui prophétise, édifie l'Église.

5 I desire now all you to speak in tongues, rather however that you may prophesy; greater [is] (now *N(k)O*) the [one] prophesying than the [one] speaking in tongues except only unless (he shall interpret, *NK(o)*) so that the church edification may receive.

Je désire que vous parliez tous en langues inconnues, mais je désire encore plus que vous prophétisiez. Celui qui prophétise est supérieur à celui qui parle en langues inconnues, à moins que ce dernier n'interprète, pour que l'Église en reçoive de l'édification.

6 (now *N(k)O*) however brothers, if I shall come to you in tongues speaking, what you will I profit, only unless to you I shall speak either in revelation or in knowledge or in prophecy or in teaching?

En effet, mes frères, si je venais parmi vous, parlant en langues inconnues, et que ma parole ne vous donnât ni révélation, ni connaissance, ni prophétie, ni instruction, — en quoi vous serais-je utile?

7 Even lifeless things a sound giving, whether flute or harp, if distinction to the sounds not (they shall give, *NK(O)*) how will it be known what is being piped or what is being harped?

Ainsi en est-il, même des objets inanimés qui rendent un son, tels que la flûte ou la harpe: s'ils ne donnent pas des sons distincts, comment reconnaîtra-t-on l'air qui est joué sur la flûte ou sur la harpe?

8 Also for if indistinct [the] trumpet sound shall give, who will prepare himself for battle?

Et si la trompette rend un son confus, qui se préparera au combat?

9 So also you yourselves with the tongue only unless intelligible speech you shall give, how will it be known what [is] being spoken? You will be for into [the] air speaking.

Vous de même, si, avec votre langue, vous ne faites pas entendre un discours intelligible, comment saura-t-on ce que vous dites? Vous parlerez en l'air.

10 So many if it would be kinds of languages (there are *N(k)O*) in [the] world, and none (of them *k*) without meaning;

Il y a dans le monde tant de sortes de mots, dont chacun a sa signification!

11 If therefore not I shall know the power of the sound, I will be to the [one] speaking a foreigner and the [one] speaking to me myself a foreigner;

Si donc je ne sais pas ce que ces mots signifient, je serai un barbare pour celui qui parle, et celui qui parle sera un barbare pour moi.

12 So also you yourselves, since zealous you are of spiritual gifts, for the edification of the church do seek that you may exceed.

Ainsi, puisque vous désirez avec ardeur les dons spirituels, cherchez à en avoir abondamment pour l'édification de l'Église.

13 (For *N(k)O*) the [one] speaking in a tongue he should pray that he may interpret.

C'est pourquoi, que celui qui parle en langue inconnue, prie, afin de pouvoir l'interpréter.

14 If for I shall pray in a tongue, the spirit of mine prays, but the mind of mine unfruitful is.

Car, si je prie en langue inconnue, mon esprit est en prière, mais mon intelligence reste inactive.

15 What then is it? I will pray with the spirit, I will pray however also with the mind; I will sing praise with the spirit, I will sing praise however also with the mind.

Que ferai-je donc? Je prierai sous l'inspiration de l'Esprit, mais je prierai aussi avec mon intelligence. Je chanterai sous l'inspiration de l'Esprit, mais je chanterai aussi avec mon intelligence.

16 Otherwise if (you shall bless in [the] *N(k)O*) spirit, the [one] filling the place of the uninstructed how will he say the Amen at your thanksgiving? since what you say [is that] not he knows;

Autrement, si tu ne rends grâces qu'en esprit, comment celui qui est dans les rangs des simples auditeurs répondra-t-il «Amen» à tes actions de grâces, puisqu'il ne sait pas ce que tu dis?

17 You yourself truly for well are giving thanks, but the other not is edified.

Sans doute, tes actions de grâces sont excellentes; mais l'autre n'en est pas édifié.

18 I thank the God (of mine *k*) than all of you more (in tongues *NK(O)*) (speaking; *N(k)O*)

Je bénis Dieu de ce que je possède, plus que vous tous, le don de parler en langue inconnue;

19 but in [the] church I desire five words (through *k*) (the with mind *N(k)O*) of mine to speak that also others I may instruct, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

mais je préfère prononcer dans l'Église cinq paroles avec toute mon intelligence, afin d'instruire aussi les autres, plutôt que prononcer dix mille paroles en langue inconnue.

20 Brothers, not children do be in the minds, Yet in the evil do be little children, in the however thinking full grown do be.

Frères, ne soyez pas des enfants, pour l'intelligence; mais pour la malice, oui, soyez de petits enfants. Quant à l'intelligence, soyez des hommes faits.

21 In the law it has been written that By other tongues and by lips (of others *N(K)O*) I will speak to the people this, and not even thus will they hear Me, says [the] Lord.

Il est écrit dans la loi: «C'est par des hommes parlant une langue étrangère, c'est par la bouche d'étrangers, que je m'adresserai à ce peuple; et même alors, ils ne m'écouteront pas, dit le Seigneur.»

22 So then tongues for a sign are not to those believing but to the unbelieving, but prophecy [is] not to the unbelieving but to the believing.

Ainsi, les langues sont un signe, non pour les croyants, mais pour les incrédules; tandis que la prophétie est un signe, non pour les incrédules, mais pour les croyants.

23 If therefore shall gather the church whole together the place and all shall speak in tongues may come in however uninstructed ones or unbelievers, surely they will say that you are mad?

Si donc, l'Église entière étant réunie dans un même lieu, tous parlent en langues inconnues, et qu'il entre de simples auditeurs ou des incrédules, ne diront-ils pas que vous êtes fous?

24 If however all shall prophesy, shall come in then some unbeliever or uninstructed, he is convicted by all, he is examined by all,

Mais si tous prophétisent, et qu'il entre un incrédule ou un simple auditeur, il est convaincu par tous, jugé par tous.

25 (and thus *K*) the secrets of the heart of him manifest become, And thus having fallen upon [his] face he will worship God declaring that certainly God among you is.

Les secrets de son coeur sont dévoilés; alors il se prosternera la face contre terre, il adorera Dieu, et il proclamera que Dieu est réellement parmi vous.

26 What then is it, brothers? When you may come together, each (of you *K*) a psalm has, a teaching has, a revelation has, a tongue has, an interpretation has; All things for edification (should be. *N(k)O*)

Qu'est-ce à dire, frères? Lorsque vous vous assemblez, quelqu'un de vous a-t-il un cantique, ou une instruction, ou une révélation; a-t-il à parler en langue inconnue, ou à donner une interprétation? Que tout se fasse pour l'édification.

27 If with a tongue anyone speaks, [let it be] by two or the most three and in turn; and one should interpret;

S'il y en a qui parlent en langue inconnue, qu'ils ne soient que deux ou trois, tout au plus; qu'ils parlent chacun à son tour, et qu'un seul interprète.

28 If however not there shall be an interpreter, he should be silent in [the] church, to himself then he should speak and to God.

S'il n'y a pas d'interprète, qu'ils se taisent dans l'Église, et qu'ils parlent à eux-mêmes et à Dieu.

29 Prophets then two or three should speak, and the others should discern;

Qu'il n'y ait aussi que deux ou trois prophètes qui parlent, et que les autres soient juges de leurs prophéties.

30 If however to another a revelation shall be made sitting by, the first should be silent.

Cependant, si un autre de ceux qui sont assis a une révélation, que le premier se taise.

31 You are able for [one] by one all to prophesy, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;

Car vous pouvez tous prophétiser l'un après l'autre, afin que tous soient instruits et que tous soient exhortés.

32 And spirits of prophets to prophets are subject;

Or, les esprits des prophètes sont soumis aux prophètes.

33 Not for He is of disorder the God but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

Dieu, en effet, n'est pas un Dieu de confusion, mais un Dieu de paix.

34 the women (of you *K*) in the churches they should be silent; Not for (it is allowed *N(k)O*) to them to speak, but (they should be submitted *N(k)O*) even as also the law says.

Comme dans toutes les Églises des saints, que les femmes se taisent dans vos assemblées: il ne leur est pas permis d'y parler, mais elles doivent être soumises, comme aussi la Loi le dit.

35 If however anything (to learn *NK(o)*) they desire, at home [their] own husbands they should ask; shameful for it is (for a woman *N(K)O*) to speak in [the] church.

Si elles désirent s'instruire sur quelque chose, que chacune d'elles interroge son mari à la maison; car il n'est pas convenable pour une femme de parler dans l'Église.

36 Or from you the word of God has gone out? Or to you only has it come?

Est-ce de chez vous que la parole de Dieu est venue, ou n'est-elle parvenue qu'à vous seuls?

37 If anyone considers a prophet himself to be or spiritual, he should recognize [the] things I write to you that (of the *k*) Lord (is [the] command; *N(K)O*)

Si quelqu'un pense être prophète ou inspiré, qu'il reconnaisse que ce que je vous écris est un commandement du Seigneur.

38 If however anyone is ignorant, (him is ignored. *N(k)O*)

Mais si quelqu'un veut l'ignorer, qu'il l'ignore!

39 So, brothers (of mine, *no*) do earnestly desire to prophesy, and to speak not do forbid in tongues.

Ainsi donc, mes frères, aspirez au don de prophétie, et n'empêchez point de parler en langues inconnues.

40 All things (however *no*) properly and with order should be done.

Mais que tout se fasse avec bienséance et avec ordre.
