[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
3 Enoch Methuselah Lamech.
[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
4 Noah Shem Ham and Japheth.
[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
5 [the] sons of Japheth Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras.
The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
6 And [the] sons of Gomer Ashkenaz and Diphath and Togarmah.
The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
7 And [the] sons of Javan [were] Elishah and Tarshish Kittim and Rodanim.
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
8 [the] sons of Ham Cush and Mizraim Put and Canaan.
The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
9 And [the] sons of Cush Seba and Havilah and Sabta and Raamah and Sabteca and [the] sons of Raamah Sheba and Dedan.
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
10 And Cush he fathered Nimrod he he began to be a mighty [man] on the earth.
Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
11 And Mizraim he fathered ([the] Ludites *Q(K)*) and [the] Anamites and [the] Lehabites and [the] Naphtuhites.
Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
12 And [the] Pathrusites and [the] Casluhites whom they came forth from there [the] Philistines and [the] Caphtorites.
the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
13 And Canaan he fathered Sidon firstborn his and Heth.
Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
14 And the Jebusite[s] and the Amorite[s] and the Girgashite[s].
the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
15 And the Hivite[s] and the Arkite[s] and the Sinite[s].
the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
16 And the Arvadite[s] and the Zemarite[s] and the Hamathite[s].
the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
17 [the] sons of Shem Elam and Asshur and Arphaxad and Lud and Aram and Uz and Hul and Gether and Meshech.
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
18 And Arphaxad he fathered Shelah and Shelah he fathered Eber.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
19 And to Eber it was born two sons [the] name of one [was] Peleg for in days his it was divided the earth and [the] name of brother his [was] Joktan.
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
20 And Joktan he fathered Almodad and Sheleph and Hazarmaveth and Jerah.
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
21 And Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah.
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
22 And Ebal and Abimael and Sheba.
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
23 And Ophir and Havilah and Jobab all these [were] [the] sons of Joktan.
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
24 Shem - Arphaxad Shelah.
The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
27 Abram he [is] Abraham.
and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
28 [the] sons of Abraham Isaac and Ishmael.
Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
29 These [were] generations their [the] firstborn of Ishmael Nebaioth and Kedar and Adbeel and Mibsam.
[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
30 Mishma and Dumah Massa Hadad and Tema.
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
31 Jetur Naphish and Kedemah these they [were] [the] sons of Ishmael.
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
32 And [the] sons of Keturah [the] concubine of Abraham she bore Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah and [the] sons of Jokshan Sheba and Dedan.
[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
33 And [the] sons of Midian Ephah and Epher and Hanoch and Abida and Eldaah all these [were] [the] sons of Keturah.
Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
34 And he fathered Abraham Isaac. [the] sons of Isaac Esau and Israel.
The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
35 [the] sons of Esau Eliphaz Reuel and Jeush and Jalam and Korah.
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
36 [the] sons of Eliphaz Teman and Omar Zephi and Gatam Kenaz and Timna and Amalek.
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
37 [the] sons of Reuel Nahath Zerah Shammah and Mizzah.
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
38 And [the] sons of Seir Lotan and Shobal and Zibeon and Anah and Dishon and Ezer and Dishan.
[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
39 And [the] sons of Lotan Hori and Homam and [was] [the] sister of Lotan Timna.
Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
40 [the] sons of Shobal Alyan and Manahath and Ebal Shephi and Onam. And [the] sons of Zibeon Aiah and Anah.
Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
41 [the] sons of Anah Dishon. And [the] sons of Dishon Hamran and Eshban and Ithran and Keran.
Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
42 [the] sons of Ezer Bilhan and Zaavan Jaakan [the] sons of Dishon Uz and Aran.
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
43 And these [were] the kings who they reigned in [the] land of Edom before reigned a king of [the] people of Israel Bela [the] son of Beor and [the] name of city his [was] Dinhabah.
[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
44 And he died Bela and he reigned in place of him Jobab [the] son of Zerah from Bozrah.
When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
45 And he died Jobab and he reigned in place of him Husham from [the] land of the Temanite[s].
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
46 And he died Husham and he reigned in place of him Hadad [the] son of Bedad who struck down Midian in [the] region of Moab and [the] name of city his ([was] Avith. *Q(K)*)
When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
47 And he died Hadad and he reigned in place of him Samlah from Masrekah.
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
48 And he died Samlah and he reigned in place of him Shaul from Rehoboth the river.
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
49 And he died Shaul and he reigned in place of him Baal-Hanan [the] son of Achbor.
When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
50 And he died Baal-Hanan and he reigned in place of him Hadad and [the] name of city his [was] Pai and [the] name of wife his [was] Mehetabel [the] daughter of Matred [the] daughter of Me-Zahab.
When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
51 And he died Hadad. And they were [the] chiefs of Edom chief Timna chief (Alvah *Q(K)*) chief Jetheth.
Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
52 Chief Oholibamah chief Elah chief Pinon.
Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
53 Chief Kenaz chief Teman chief Mibzar.
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
54 Chief Magdiel chief Iram these [were] [the] chiefs of Edom.
Magdiel, and Iram.
