Titus 2
1 But do, thou, speak the things which become the healthful instruction: —
Doch gij, spreek hetgeen der gezonde leer betaamt.
2 That, aged men, be, sober, grave, sober-minded, healthy in their faith, love, endurance;
Dat de oude mannen nuchter zijn, stemmig, voorzichtig, gezond in het geloof, in de liefde, in de lijdzaamheid.
3 Aged women, in the same way, in deportment, as becometh sacred persons, not given to intrigue, nor yet, to much wine, enslaved, teachers of virtue, —
De oude vrouwen insgelijks, dat zij in haar dracht zijn, gelijk den heiligen betaamt, dat zij geen lasteraarsters zijn, zich niet tot veel wijns begevende, maar leraressen zijn van het goede;
4 That they may constrain the young women to be, lovers of their husbands, lovers of their children,
Opdat zij de jonge vrouwen leren voorzichtig te zijn, haar mannen lief te hebben, haar kinderen lief te hebben;
5 soberminded, chaste, workers at home, good, submitting themselves to their own husbands, —that, the word of God, be not defamed;
Matig te zijn, kuis te zijn, het huis te bewaren, goed te zijn, haar eigen mannen onderdanig te zijn, opdat het Woord Gods niet gelasterd worde.
6 The younger men, in the same way, exhort thou to be sober-minded:
Vermaan den jonge mannen insgelijks, dat zij matig zijn.
7 In all things, shewing, thyself, an ensample of noble works, —in thine instruction, uncorruptness, gravity,
Betoon uzelven in alles een voorbeeld van goede werken, betoon in de leer onvervalstheid, deftigheid, oprechtheid;
8 healthful discourse that cannot be condemned, in order that, he that is of the contrary part, may relent, having nothing to say concerning us that is disparaging:
Het woord gezond en onverwerpelijk, opdat degene, die daartegen is, beschaamd worde, en niets kwaads hebbe van ulieden te zeggen.
9 Servants, unto their own masters, to be submitting themselves in all things, to be, well-pleasing, not gainsaying,
Vermaan den dienstknechten, dat zij hun eigen heren onderdanig zijn, dat zij in alles welbehagelijk zijn, niet tegensprekende;
10 not taking anything away, shewing, all good faith, —that, the instruction which is of our Saviour God, they may adorn in all things.
Niet onttrekkende, maar alle goede trouw bewijzende; opdat zij de leer van God, onzen Zaligmaker, in alles mogen versieren.
11 For the favour of God, bringing salvation for all men, hath shone forth,
Want de zaligmakende genade Gods is verschenen aan alle mensen.
12 Putting us under discipline—in order that, —denying ourselves of ungodliness and worldly covetings, in a soberminded and righteous and godly manner, we should live, in the present age, (aiōn g165)
En onderwijst ons, dat wij, de goddeloosheid en de wereldse begeerlijkheden verzakende, matig en rechtvaardig, en godzalig leven zouden in deze tegenwoordige wereld; (aiōn g165)
13 Prepared to welcome the happy hope and forthshining of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Christ Jesus, —
Verwachtende de zalige hoop en verschijning der heerlijkheid van den groten God en onzen Zaligmaker Jezus Christus;
14 Who gave himself up in our behalf, that he might redeem us from all manner of lawlessness, and purify for himself a people as his own treasure—zealous of noble works.
Die Zichzelven voor ons gegeven heeft, opdat Hij ons zou verlossen van alle ongerechtigheid, en Zichzelven een eigen volk zou reinigen, ijverig in goede werken.
15 As to these things, be speaking and exhorting and reproving, with all manner of precept: let, no one, disregard thee!
Spreek dit, en vermaan, en bestraf met allen ernst. Dat niemand u verachte.
