Psalms 78
1 An Instructive Psalm. Asaph’s. Give ear, O my people, to mine instruction, Bend your ear to the sayings of my mouth;
௧ஆசாபின் மஸ்கீல் என்னும் போதகப் பாடல். என் மக்களே, என்னுடைய உபதேசத்தைக் கேளுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளுக்கு உங்களுடைய செவிகளைச் சாயுங்கள்.
2 I will open, in a parable, my mouth, I will pour forth enigmas out of antiquity; —
௨என்னுடைய வாயை உவமைகளால் திறப்பேன்; ஆரம்ப காலத்தின் மறைபொருட்களை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன்.
3 Which we have heard, and come to know, And, our fathers, have recounted to us;
௩அவைகளை நாங்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டு அறிந்தோம்; எங்களுடைய முன்னோர்கள் அவைகளை எங்களுக்குத் தெரிவித்தார்கள்.
4 We will not withhold [them] from their children, To a later generation, recounting the praises of Yahweh, Even his might and his wonders which he wrought;
௪பின்வரும் சந்ததியான பிள்ளைகளுக்கு நாங்கள் அவைகளை மறைக்காமல், யெகோவாவின் துதிகளையும் அவருடைய பலத்தையும், அவர் செய்த அவருடைய அதிசயங்களையும் விவரிப்போம்.
5 When he set up a testimony in Jacob, And, a law, appointed in Israel, —Which he commanded our fathers, That they might make them known to their children;
௫அவர் யாக்கோபிலே சாட்சியை ஏற்படுத்தி, இஸ்ரவேலிலே வேதத்தை நிறுவி, அவைகளைத் தங்களுடைய பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி நம்முடைய முற்பிதாக்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.
6 To the end, A later generation, might come to know, Children who should be born, Who should arise, and recount [them] to their children;
௬இனிப் பிறக்கும் பிள்ளைகளாகிய பின்சந்ததியார் அதை அறிந்துகொண்டு, அவர்கள் எழும்பித் தங்களுடைய பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அவைகளைச் சொல்லும்படிக்கும்;
7 That they might set, in Elohim, their confidence, —And not forget the doings of El, But, his commandments, might observe;
௭தேவன்மேல் அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய நம்பிக்கையை வைத்து, தேவனுடைய செயல்களை மறக்காமல், அவர் கற்பனைகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளும்படிக்கும்;
8 And not become, like their fathers, a generation stubborn and rebellious, —A generation that fixed not their heart, Neither was their spirit, faithful with GOD.
௮இருதயத்தைச் செவ்வைப்படுத்தாமலும், தேவனை உறுதியாகப் பற்றிக்கொள்ளாமலும் இருந்த முரட்டாட்டமும் கலகமுமுள்ள சந்ததியாகிய தங்களுடைய பிதாக்களுக்கு அவர்கள் ஒப்பாகாதபடிக்கும், இவைகளைக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.
9 The sons of Ephraim—armed bowmen, Turned in the day of battle;
௯ஆயுதமணிந்த வில்வீரர்களான எப்பிராயீமீர்கள் யுத்தநாளிலே முதுகு காட்டினார்கள்.
10 They kept not the covenant of God, And, in his law, refused to walk;
௧0அவர்கள் தேவனுடைய உடன்படிக்கையைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமலும், அவருடைய கட்டளைகளின்படி நடக்கச் சம்மதிக்காமலும்,
11 And forgat His doings, And his wonders which he had showed them:
௧௧அவருடைய செயல்களையும், அவர் தங்களுக்குக் காண்பித்த அதிசயங்களையும் மறந்தார்கள்.
12 In presence of their fathers, wrought he, wondrously, —In the land of Egypt—the field of Zoan:
௧௨அவர்களுடைய முன்னோர்களுக்கு முன்பாக, எகிப்து தேசத்துச் சோவான் வெளியிலே, அவர் அதிசயமானவைகளைச் செய்தார்.
13 He clave the sea, and caused them to pass through, And reared up the waters like a mound;
௧௩கடலைப் பிளந்து, அவர்களைக் கடக்கச்செய்து, தண்ணீரைக் குவியலாக நிற்கும்படிச் செய்தார்.
14 And led them, by a cloud, in the daytime, And all the night, by a light of fire;
௧௪பகலிலே மேகத்தினாலும், இரவுமுழுவதும் அக்கினி வெளிச்சத்தினாலும் அவர்களை வழிநடத்தினார்.
15 He used to cleave rocks in the desert, And let them drink as out of mighty deeps;
௧௫பாலைவனத்திலே கன்மலைகளைப் பிளந்து, மகா ஆழங்களிலிருந்து தண்ணீரை அவர்களுக்குக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்.
16 And he brought forth streams out of the cliff, And caused waters to flow down, like rivers.
௧௬கன்மலையிலிருந்து நீரோட்டங்களைப் புறப்படச்செய்து, தண்ணீரை நதிபோல ஓடிவரும்படி செய்தார்.
17 But again, once more sinned they against him, Resisting the Most High in a land of drought:
௧௭என்றாலும், அவர்கள் பின்னும் அவருக்கு விரோதமாகப் பாவஞ்செய்து, பாலைவனத்திலே உன்னதமான தேவனுக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டினார்கள்.
18 They put GOD to the proof in their heart, By asking food to their mind:
௧௮தங்களுடைய ஆசைக்கேற்ற உணவைக்கேட்டு, தங்களுடைய இருதயத்தில் தேவனைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்தார்கள்.
19 Yea they spake against Elohim, —They said, Can GOD prepare a table in the desert?
௧௯அவர்கள் தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாகப் பேசி: தேவன் பாலைவனத்திலே உணவுப்பந்தியை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தக்கூடுமோ?
20 Lo! he hath smitten a rock, And waters, have gushed out, Yea, torrents, have rushed along, —Food also, can he give? Or provide flesh for his people?
௨0இதோ அவர் கன்மலையை அடித்ததினால் தண்ணீர் புறப்பட்டு, நதிகளாகப் புரண்டுவந்தது; அவர் அப்பத்தையும் கொடுக்கமுடியுமோ? தம்முடைய மக்களுக்கு இறைச்சியையும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்துவாரோ என்றார்கள்.
21 Therefore, Yahweh hearkened, and became wroth, —And, a fire, was kindled against Jacob, Moreover also, anger, mounted against Israel;
௨௧ஆகையால் யெகோவா அதைக் கேட்டுக் கோபங்கொண்டார்; அவர்கள் தேவனை விசுவாசிக்காமலும், அவருடைய இரட்சிப்பை நம்பாமலும் போனதினால்,
22 Because, They believed not in God, Nor trusted in his salvation;
௨௨யாக்கோபுக்கு விரோதமாக நெருப்பு பற்றியெரிந்தது; இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாகக் கோபம் மூண்டது.
23 Though he had commanded the skies above, And, the doors of the heavens, had opened;
௨௩அவர் உயரத்திலுள்ள மேகங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டு, வானத்தின் கதவுகளைத் திறந்து,
24 And had rained on them manna to eat, And, the corn of the heavens, had given to them:
௨௪மன்னாவை அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரமாகப் பெய்யச்செய்து, வானத்தின் தானியத்தை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.
25 The food of the mighty, each one did eat, Nourishment, sent he them to the full;
௨௫தூதர்களின் அப்பத்தை மனிதன் சாப்பிட்டான்; அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரத்தைப் பூரணமாக அனுப்பினார்.
26 He let loose an east wind in the heavens, Then guided he, in his might, a south wind;
௨௬வானத்திலே கிழக்கு காற்றை வீசச்செய்து, தம்முடைய வல்லமையினால் தென்றலையும் வீசச்செய்து,
27 And rained upon them flesh as the dust, And, like the sand of the seas, birds of wing;
௨௭இறைச்சியை தூளைப்போலவும், சிறகுள்ள பறவைகளைக் கடற்கரை மணலளவாகவும் பெய்யச்செய்து,
28 And let them fall in the midst of their camp, —Round about their habitations.
௨௮அவைகளை அவர்கள் முகாமின் நடுவிலும், அவர்கள் கூடாரங்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இறங்கச்செய்தார்.
29 So they did eat and were abundantly filled, When, what they longed for, he had brought them: —
௨௯அவர்கள் சாப்பிட்டு திருப்தியடைந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் ஆசைப்பட்டதை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.
30 They had not turned away from what they had longed for, Yet was their food in their mouth,
௩0அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய ஆசையை வெறுக்கவில்லை; அவர்களுடைய உணவு அவர்களுடைய வாயில் இருக்கும்போதே.
31 When, the anger of God, mounted against them, And he slew of their vigorous youths, And, the choice young men of Israel, caused he to bow down in death.
௩௧தேவகோபம் அவர்கள்மேல் எழும்பி, அவர்களில் கொழுத்தவர்களை அழித்து, இஸ்ரவேலில் வாலிபர்களை விழச்செய்தார்.
32 For all this, sinned they still, And believed not in his wonders;
௩௨இவையெல்லாம் நடந்தும், அவர் செய்த அதிசயங்களை அவர்கள் நம்பாமல், பின்னும் பாவஞ்செய்தார்கள்.
33 So he ended, in a breath, their days, And their years, in a sudden terror!
௩௩ஆதலால் அவர்கள் நாட்களை வீணாகவும், அவர்கள் வருடங்களைப் பயங்கரத்திலும் கழியச்செய்தார்.
34 If he slew [of] them, then they sought him, Yea they turned, and did earnestly seek GOD;
௩௪அவர்களை அவர் கொல்லும்போது அவரைக்குறித்து விசாரித்து, அவர்கள் திரும்பிவந்து தேவனை அதிகாலமே தேடி;
35 And remembered that, Elohim, was their rock, Yea, EL Most High, their Redeemer:
௩௫தேவன் தங்களுடைய கன்மலையென்றும், உன்னதமான தேவன் தங்களுடைய மீட்பர் என்றும், நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்கள்.
36 So they spake him fair with their mouth, And, with their tongue, did promise him falsely;
௩௬ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய வாயினால் அவருக்கு வஞ்சகம் பேசி, தங்களுடைய நாவினால் அவரிடத்தில் பொய்சொன்னார்கள்.
37 But, their heart, was not fixed with him, Nor were they trusty in his covenant:
௩௭அவர்களுடைய இருதயம் அவரிடத்தில் நிலைவரப்படவில்லை; அவருடைய உடன்படிக்கையில் அவர்கள் உண்மையாக இருக்கவில்லை.
38 Yet, he, full of compassion, would put a propitiatory-covering over iniquity, and not destroy, —Yea, many a time, turned he back his anger, And would not stir up all his wrath.
௩௮அவரோ அவர்களை அழிக்காமல், இரக்கமுள்ளவராக அவர்கள் அக்கிரமத்தை மன்னித்தார்; அவர் தமது கடுங்கோபம் முழுவதையும் எழுப்பாமல், அநேகமுறை தமது கோபத்தை விலக்கிவிட்டார்.
39 So then he remembered, That, Flesh, they were, A Wind departing, that returneth not.
௩௯அவர்கள் மாம்சமென்றும், திரும்பிவராமல் அகலுகிற காற்றென்றும் நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்.
40 How often they, Resisted him in the desert, Vexed him, in the waste:
௪0எத்தனைமுறையோ பாலைவனத்திலே அவருக்குக் கோபமூட்டி, பாலைவனத்திலே அவரை வேதனைப்படுத்தினார்கள்.
41 Yea they again put GOD to the test, And, to the Holy One of Israel, caused they sorrow:
௪௧அவர்கள் திரும்பி தேவனைப் பரீட்சை பார்த்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் பரிசுத்த தேவனை எரிச்சலூட்டினார்கள்.
42 They remembered not his hand—The day, When he ransomed them from the adversary;
௪௨அவருடைய கரத்தையும், அவர் தங்களை எதிரிகளுக்கு விலக்கி மீட்ட நாளையும் நினைக்காமல் போனார்கள்.
43 When he set, in Egypt, his signs, And his wonders, in the plain of Zoan;
௪௩அவர் எகிப்திலே தம்முடைய அடையாளங்களையும், சோவான் வெளியிலே தம்முடைய அற்புதங்களையும் செய்தார்.
44 When he turned, into blood, their Nile-streams, And, their own rivers, could they not drink;
௪௪அவர்களுடைய நதிகளை இரத்தமாக மாற்றி, அவர்களுடைய ஆறுகளிலுள்ள தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்கமுடியாதபடி செய்தார்.
45 He sent among them, The gad-fly, and it devoured them, And the frog, and it despoiled them;
௪௫அவர்களை அழிக்கும்படி வண்டு வகைகளையும், அவர்களைக் கெடுக்கும்படி தவளைகளையும் அவர்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார்.
46 When he gave to the corn-locust their produce, And their toil, to the swarming locust;
௪௬அவர்களுடைய விளைச்சலைப் புழுக்களுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய உழைப்பின் பலனை வெட்டுக்கிளிகளுக்கும் கொடுத்தார்.
47 He killed, with hail, their vine, And their sycomores, with frost:
௪௭கல்மழையினால் அவர்களுடைய திராட்சைச்செடிகளையும், ஆலாங்கட்டியினால் அவர்களுடைய அத்திமரங்களையும் அழித்து,
48 When he gave up, to hail-storms, their beasts, And their cattle, to pestilent fevers;
௪௮அவர்களுடைய மிருகங்களைக் கல்மழைக்கும், அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகளை இடிகளுக்கும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.
49 He sent among them the heat of his anger, Wrath and indignation and distress, —A mission of messengers of misfortune:
௪௯தமது கடுமையான கோபத்தையும், மூர்க்கத்தையும், பிரச்சனையையும், உபத்திரவத்தையும், தீங்குசெய்யும் தூதர்களையும் அவர்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார்.
50 He leveled a path for his anger, Withheld not, from death, their soul, But, their life—to the pestilence, he delivered:
௫0அவர் தம்முடைய கோபத்திற்கு வழிதிறந்து, அவர்களுடைய ஆத்துமாவை மரணத்திற்கு விலக்கிக் காக்காமல், அவர்கள் உயிரைக் கொள்ளைநோய்க்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.
51 So he smote, Every first-born in Egypt, The beginning of their strength, in the tents of Ham;
௫௧எகிப்திலே முதற்பிறந்த பிள்ளைகள் அனைத்தையும், காமின் கூடாரங்களிலே அவர்களுடைய பெலனில் முதற்பிறந்த எல்லோரையும் அழித்து;
52 And he set forth, like sheep, his people, And guided them, like a flock in the desert;
௫௨தம்முடைய மக்களை ஆடுகளைப்போல் புறப்படச்செய்து, அவர்களை வனாந்திரத்திலே மந்தையைப்போல் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்;
53 Yea he led them securely, and they dreaded not, And, their enemies, the sea did cover.
௫௩அவர்கள் பயப்படாதபடிக்கு அவர்களைப் பத்திரமாக வழிநடத்தினார்; அவர்கள் எதிரிகளைக் கடல் மூடிப்போட்டது.
54 Then brought he them within his own holy bounds, The mountain-range, which his right hand made his own:
௫௪அவர்களைத் தமது பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தின் எல்லைவரைக்கும், தமது வலதுகரம் சம்பாதித்த இந்த மலைவரைக்கும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து,
55 So he drave out, before them, [whole] nations, And allotted them, by line, an inheritance, And caused to dwell, in their own homes, the tribes of Israel.
௫௫அவர்கள் முகத்திற்கு முன்பாக தேசங்களைத் துரத்திவிட்டு, தேசத்தை நூல்போட்டுப் பங்கிட்டு, அவர்களுடைய கூடாரங்களில் இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களைக் குடியேற்றினார்.
56 But they tested and resisted God Most High, And, his testimonies, did not observe;
௫௬ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் உன்னதமான தேவனைப் பரீட்சை பார்த்து, அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, அவருடைய சாட்சிகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமல்போய்,
57 But drew back and dealt treacherously, like their fathers, They turned aside, like deceitful bowmen;
௫௭தங்களுடைய முன்னோர்களைப்போல வழிவிலகி, துரோகம்செய்து, மோசம்போக்கும் வில்லைப்போல் துவண்டு,
58 And provoked him to anger with their high places, And, with their images, used to move him to jealousy.
௫௮தங்களுடைய மேடைகளினால் அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, தங்களுடைய விக்கிரகங்களினால் எரிச்சல் உண்டாக்கினார்கள்.
59 God heard and was wroth, And greatly abhorred Israel;
௫௯தேவன் அதைக் கேட்டு கடுங்கோபமடைந்து, இஸ்ரவேலை மிகவும் வெறுத்து,
60 So he gave up the habitation of Shiloh, The tent he had set up among Men;
௬0தாம் மனிதர்களுக்குள்ளே போட்ட கூடாரமாகிய சீலோவிலுள்ள வாசஸ்தலத்தை விட்டுவிலகி,
61 Yea he gave up, into captivity, his strength, And his beauty into the hand of an adversary;
௬௧தமது பலமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலர்களை சிறையிருப்புக்கும், தமது மகிமையான தம் ஜனத்தை எதிரியின் கைக்கும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து,
62 And delivered up, to the sword, his people, And, with his own inheritance, was he wroth;
௬௨தமது மக்களை வாளுக்கு இரையாக்கி, தமது சுதந்தரத்தின்மேல் கோபங்கொண்டார்.
63 His young men, were devoured by fire, And, his virgins, were not praised in song;
௬௩அவர்கள் வாலிபர்களை நெருப்பு எரித்தது, அவர்களுடைய கன்னிப்பெண்கள் வாழ்க்கைப்படாமலிருந்தார்கள்.
64 His priests, by the sword, did fall, And, his widows, were not able to bewail.
௬௪அவர்களுடைய ஆசாரியர்கள் வாளால் விழுந்தார்கள், அவர்களுடைய விதவைகள் அழவில்லை.
65 Then awoke, as one that had slept, Adonay, As a warrior exulting with wine!
௬௫அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் தூக்கம் தெளிந்தவனைப்போலவும், திராட்சைரசத்தால் கெம்பீரிக்கிற பலசாலியைப்போலவும் விழித்து,
66 So he smote his adversaries in the rear, Reproach age-abiding, laid he upon them.
௬௬தம்முடைய எதிரிகளைப் பின்புறமாக அடித்து, அவர்களுக்கு நித்திய நிந்தையை வரச்செய்தார்.
67 Howbeit he rejected the tent of Joseph, And, the tribe of Ephraim, did not choose:
௬௭அவர் யோசேப்பின் கூடாரத்தைப் புறக்கணித்தார்; எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தை அவர் தெரிந்துகொள்ளாமல்,
68 But made choice of the tribe of Judah, The mountain of Zion, which he loved;
௬௮யூதா கோத்திரத்தையும் தமக்குப் பிரியமான சீயோன் மலையையும் தெரிந்துகொண்டார்.
69 And built, like the heights, his sanctuary, Like the earth, he founded it to times age-abiding.
௬௯தம்முடைய பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தை மலைகளைப்போலவும், என்றைக்கும் நிற்கும்படி தாம் அஸ்திபாரப்படுத்தின பூமியைப்போலவும் கட்டினார்.
70 And made choice of David his servant, And took him from among the folds of the sheep:
௭0தம்முடைய ஊழியனாகிய தாவீதைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டு, ஆட்டுத்தொழுவங்களிலிருந்து அவனை எடுத்தார்.
71 From after the sucking ewes, he brought him in, —To be shepherd to Jacob his people, And to Israel, his inheritance.
௭௧கறவலாடுகளின் பின்னாகத் திரிந்த அவனை, தம்முடைய மக்களாகிய யாக்கோபையும் தம்முடைய சுதந்தரமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலையும் மேய்ப்பதற்காக, அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தார்.
72 So he did shepherd them, according to the singleness of his heart, And, with the discernment of his hands, used he to guide them.
௭௨இவன் அவர்களைத் தன்னுடைய இருதயத்தின் உண்மையின்படியே மேய்த்து, தன்னுடைய கைகளின் திறமையினால் அவர்களை நடத்தினான்.
