< Psalms 17 >
1 A Prayer of David. Hear, O Yahweh, the right, Attend to my loud cry, Give ear unto my prayer, on lips that would not deceive:
Ko e Lotu ʻa Tevita. ʻE Sihova, ke ke fanongo ki he meʻa totonu, tokanga ki heʻeku tangi fakafanongo ki heʻeku lotu, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai mei he loungutu kākā.
2 From before thee, let my sentence come forth, Thine eyes, behold with equity.
Ke haʻu mei ho ʻao ʻa hoku fakamaau; ke ʻafioʻi ʻe ho fofonga ʻaia ʻoku totonu.
3 Thou hast tested my heart, hast made inspection by night, hast refined me until thou couldst find nothing, Had I devised evil, my mouth should not have transgressed:
Naʻa ke ʻahiʻahiʻi hoku loto; naʻa ke ʻaʻahi kiate au ʻi he poʻuli; kuo ke ʻahiʻahiʻi au, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke ʻilo ha meʻa; kuopau pe hoku loto ʻe ʻikai hala hoku ngutu.
4 As for the workings of men, By the word of thy lips, have, I, taken heed of the paths of the violent one.
Pea ko e meʻa ʻi he ngaahi ngāue ʻae tangata, ʻi he folofola ʻo ho loungutu kuo u taʻofi ʻaki au mei he ngaahi ʻaluʻanga ʻoe fakaʻauha.
5 Thou hast held fast my goings on to thy ways, My footsteps have not been shaken:
Ke ke tokoni ʻeku ʻalu atu ʻi ho ngaahi hala, ke ʻoua naʻa hekea hoku vaʻe.
6 I, have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer me, O GOD, —Incline thine ear unto me, Hear thou my speech:
ʻE ʻOtua naʻaku ui kiate koe, he te ke ongoʻi au: ke ke fakatokangaʻi ho telinga kiate au, pea fanongo ki heʻeku lea.
7 Let thy lovingkindness be distinguished, thou Saviour of such as seek refuge from them who lift themselves up against thy right hand.
Fakahā hoʻo ʻaloʻofa fakamanavahē, ʻa koe ʻoku ke fakamoʻui ʻaki ho nima toʻomataʻu ʻakinautolu ʻoku falala kiate koe meiate kinautolu ʻoku tuʻu hake kiate kinautolu.
8 Guard me, as the pupil of the eye, —Under the shadow of thy wings, wilt thou hide me:
Ke ke tauhi au ʻo hangē ko e tamaʻimata, fakafufū au ʻi he malu ʻo ho kapakau,
9 From the face of lawless ones who have treated me with violence, the foes of my soul, who come round against me:
Mei he kau angakovi ʻaia ʻoku nau taʻomia au, mei hoku ngaahi fili fakapō, ʻoku nau kāpui au.
10 Their own fat [heart], have they shut up, —With their mouth, have they spoken proudly.
Kuo ʻāʻi ʻakinautolu ʻaki honau fuʻu sino: ʻoku nau lea fakafielahi ʻaki honau ngutu.
11 As for our own goings, now, have they surrounded us, —Their eyes, they fix, bending to the earth:
Ko eni kuo nau kāpui ʻakimautolu ʻi homau ngaahi ʻaluʻanga: kuo nau fakamamaʻu honau mata ʻo sio hifo ki he kelekele;
12 His likeness, is as a lion, that longeth to rend, and as a young lion, lurking in secret places.
ʻO hangē ko e laione ʻoku holi ki he kai, pea hangē ko e laione mui ʻoku toitoi ʻi he ngaahi potu lilo.
13 Rise, Yahweh! Confront his face, Bring him down, Deliver my soul from the lawless one [who is] thy sword:
Tuʻu hake, ʻE Sihova, ʻo taʻofi ia, lī ia ki lalo: fakahaofi hoku laumālie mei he tangata angakovi, ʻaia ko hoʻo heletā:
14 From men [who are] thy hand, O Yahweh, From the men of this age, whose portion, is among the living, and, with thy treasure, thou fillest their bosom, —They must be satisfied with sons, And must leave their abundance to their children: —
ʻE Sihova, mei he kau tangata ʻoku ʻi ho nima, mei he kau tangata ʻo māmani, ʻoku nau maʻu honau ʻinasi ʻi he moʻui ni, ʻakinautolu ʻoku ke fakapito honau kete ʻaki hoʻo koloa fufū: ʻoku nau fonu ʻi he ngaahi fānau, pea ʻoku nau tuku hono toe ʻo ʻenau koloa ki heʻenau kau valevale.
15 I, in righteousness, shall behold thy face, Shall be satisfied when awakened by a vision of thee.
Ka ko au, te u mamata ki ho fofonga ʻi he māʻoniʻoni: te u fiemālie au, ʻo kau ka ʻā hake, ʻi ho tatau.
