Proverbs 7
1 My son, keep my sayings, and, my commandments, treasure by thee;
Mon fils, retiens mes paroles et pénètre-toi de mes recommandations;
2 Keep my commandments and live, and mine instruction, as the pupil of thine eye;
garde mes préceptes pour que tu vives, et mon enseignement, comme la prunelle de tes yeux.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them, on the tablet of thy heart;
Attache-les à tes doigts, inscris-les sur les tablettes de ton cœur.
4 Say unto wisdom, My sister, thou! and, an acquaintance, call thou, understanding:
Dis à la sagesse: "Tu es ma sœur," et appelle la raison" Mon amie!"
5 That thou mayest be kept, from the woman that is a stranger, from the female unknown, who, with her speeches, doth flatter.
Ainsi tu seras mis en garde contre la femme d’autrui, contre l’étrangère au parler doucereux.
6 For, in the window of my house, through my lattice, I looked out;
Aussi bien, il m’arriva de regarder par la fenêtre de ma chambre, à travers mon treillis.
7 And saw among the simple ones, discerned among the youths, A young man lacking sense;
J’Observai les jeunes étourdis, je distinguai, parmi eux, un adolescent dépourvu d’intelligence.
8 Passing through the street, near her corner, and, on the way to her house, he sauntered along;
Il passait dans la rue, près du logis de cette femme, et dirigeait ses pas vers sa maison.
9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the midst of the night, and the gloom;
C’Était à l’heure du crépuscule, quand le soir tombait et que la nuit se faisait sombre et obscure.
10 And lo! a woman, came to meet him, attired as one unchaste, of a wily heart.
Or, voici qu’une femme l’aborde, à la mise de courtisane et au cœur artificieux.
11 Boisterous, is she, and rebellious, In her house, abide not her feet;
Bruyante et désordonnée, ses pieds ne tiennent pas en place à la maison;
12 Now outside, now in the broadways, and, near every corner, she lieth in wait:
tantôt dans la rue, tantôt sur les places, à chaque coin elle se met aux aguets.
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and, embolding her face, she said to him:
Cette femme s’empare de lui, le couvre de baisers et, prenant un air effronté, lui dit:
14 Peace-offerings, are by me, to-day, have I paid my vows;
"J’Avais à faire un sacrifice de reconnaissance, et aujourd’hui même je me suis acquittée de mes vœux.
15 For this cause, came I forth to meet thee, to seek diligently thy face, and I have found thee:
C’Est pourquoi je suis sortie à ta rencontre, voulant me trouver face à face avec toi, et te voilà!
16 Coverlets, have I spread on my couch of pleasure, dark-hued stuffs, of the yarn of Egypt;
J’Ai paré ma couche de riches broderies, de draps en lin d’Egypte.
17 I have sprinkled my bed, with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon:
J’Ai parfumé mon lit de repos de myrrhe, d’aloès et de cinnamone.
18 Come! let us take our fill of endearments, until morning, let us delight ourselves with caresses;
Viens donc, enivrons-nous d’amour jusqu’au matin, épuisons les délices des caresses.
19 For the husband is not in his house, he hath gone on a journey afar;
Mon mari n’est pas à la maison, il est parti pour un voyage lointain.
20 A bag of silver, hath he taken in his hand, On the day of the full moon, will he enter his house.
Il a emporté sa sacoche avec lui et ne rentrera qu’au jour convenu."
21 She turneth him aside, with her great persuasiveness, —with the flattery of her lips, she compelleth him:
Elle l’ébranle par ce flux de paroles, et achève sa défaite par sa faconde insinuante.
22 Going after her instantly, as an ox, to the slaughter, he entereth, and, as in fetters, unto the correction of a fool.
Soudain il la suit, comme le bœuf va à l’abattoir, comme un fou qu’on entraîne pour le châtier,
23 Until an arrow cleaveth his liver, as a bird hasteth into a snare, and knoweth not, that, for his life, it is!
comme le passereau se lance dans le piège, jusqu’à ce qu’une flèche lui perce le foie: il ne se doute pas qu’il y va de sa vie.
24 Now, therefore, ye sons, hearken unto me, and attend, to the sayings of my mouth;
Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, soyez attentifs aux paroles de ma bouche.
25 Let not thy heart, turn aside to her ways, Do not go astray, in her paths.
Que votre cœur ne se détourne pas vers les voies d’une telle femme, ne vous égarez pas dans ses sentiers;
26 For, many, wounded, hath she caused to fall, —yea strong men, slain wholly by her:
car nombreuses sont les victimes dont elle a causé la chute, et ceux qu’elle a fait périr sont foule.
