Proverbs 6
1 My son, if thou have become surety for thy neighbour, —have struck for a stranger thy hands,
१माझ्या मुला, शेजाऱ्याच्या कर्जाला जामीनासाठी जर तू आपला पैसा बाजूला ठेवलास, ज्याला तू ओळखत नाही अशा कोणाला तू कर्जासाठी वचन दिले,
2 Thou hast been snared by the sayings of thy mouth, —thou hast been caught by the sayings of thy mouth.
२तर मग तू आपल्या वचनाने पाशात अडकला आहेस, आणि तू आपल्या तोंडच्या शब्दांनीच पकडला गेला आहेस.
3 Do this then, my son, and deliver thyself, When thou hast come into the hand of thy neighbour, Go, haste thee, and urge thy neighbour;
३ह्याकरिता, माझ्या मुला, तू हे कर आणि आपला बचाव कर, कारण तू शेजाऱ्याच्या तावडीत सापडला आहेस. जा आणि आपल्याला नम्र कर आणि आपल्या शेजाऱ्याला तुला मुक्त करण्यास आग्रह कर.
4 Do not give sleep to thine eyes, or slumber to thine eyelashes;
४तुझ्या डोळ्यास झोप लागू देऊ नकोस, आणि तुझ्या पापण्यास गुंगी येऊ देऊ नको.
5 Deliver thyself, as a gazelle out of the hand, and as a bird, out of the hand of the fowler.
५शिकाऱ्याच्या हातातून हरीणीला; जसे फासे पारध्याच्या हातातून पक्ष्याला, तसे तू आपणाला वाचव.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard, observe her ways, and be wise;
६अरे आळशी मनुष्या, मुंगीकडे पाहा, तिचे मार्ग पाहून शहाणा हो.
7 Which, having no harvest, scribe, or ruler,
७तिला कोणी सेनापती अधिकारी, किंवा राजा नाही.
8 Prepareth, in the summer, her food, hath collected, in the harvest, her sustenance.
८तरी ती उन्हाळ्यात आपले अन्न तयार करते, आणि जे काय खाण्यास लागणारे कापणीच्या समयी ते जमा करून ठेवते.
9 How long, O sluggard, wilt thou lie? how long ere thou rise from thy sleep?
९अरे आळशी मनुष्या, तू किती वेळ झोपून राहशील? तू आपल्या झोपेतून केव्हा उठशील?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest: —
१०“आणखी थोडीशी झोप घेतो, आणखी थोडीशी डुलकी खातो. आणखी विसावा घ्यायला हात घडी करतो.”
11 So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
११असे म्हणशील तर दारिद्र्य दरोडेखोराप्रमाणे आणि तुझी गरिबी हत्यारबंद मनुष्यासारखी येईल.
12 An abandoned man, a man of iniquity, [is he] who—goeth on in perversity of mouth;
१२दुर्जन व वाईट मनुष्य त्याच्या कपटी बोलण्याने जगतो,
13 Winketh with his eyes, speaketh with his foot, pointeth with his fingers;
१३त्याचे डोळे मिचकावतो, आपल्या पायांनी इशारा करतो, आणि आपल्या बोटांनी खुणा करतो.
14 [Hath] perverse things in his heart, deviseth mischief on every occasion, strifes, he sendeth forth.
१४त्याच्या हृदयात कपट असून त्याबरोबर तो दुष्ट योजना आखतो; तो नेहमी वैमनस्य पसरतो.
15 For this cause, suddenly cometh his doom, in a moment, shall he be torn in pieces and there be no mending.
१५यामुळे त्याची विपत्ती तत्क्षणी त्यास गाठेल; कोणत्याही उपचाराशिवाय एका क्षणात तो तुटेल.
16 These six things, doth Yahweh hate, yea, seven, are the abomination of his soul: —
१६परमेश्वर अशा या सहा गोष्टींचा द्वेष करतो, त्यास अशा सात गोष्टींचा वीट आहेः
17 Eyes that are lofty, a tongue that is false, and hands shedding innocent blood;
१७गर्विष्टांचे डोळे, लबाड बोलणारी जीभ, निरपराध्यांचे रक्त पाडणारे हात,
18 A heart contriving iniquitous devices, feet hasting to run into mischief;
१८मन जे वाईट गोष्टी करण्याच्या योजना आखते, पाय जे वाईट गोष्टी करायला त्वरेने धाव घेतात,
19 One that uttereth lies—a false witness, and one sending forth strifes between brethren.
१९लबाड बोलणारा खोटा साक्षी, आणि जो कोणी भावाभावामध्ये वैमनस्य पेरणारा मनुष्य, ह्या त्या आहेत.
20 Observe thou, my son, the commandment of thy father, and do not decline from the instruction of thy mother:
२०माझ्या मुला, तुझ्या वडिलांची आज्ञा पाळ, आणि तुझ्या आईची शिकवण विसरु नकोस.
21 Bind them upon thy heart continually, fasten them upon thy neck;
२१ती नेहमी आपल्या हृदयाशी कवटाळून धर; ती आपल्या गळ्यात बांधून ठेव.
22 When thou walkest abroad, it shall guide thee, when thou sleepest, it shall watch over thee, when thou wakest, it shall speak to thee:
२२जेव्हा तू चालशील, ते तुला मार्गदर्शन करील; जेव्हा तू झोपशील, तेव्हा ते तुझे रक्षण करील; आणि जेव्हा तू उठशील तेव्हा ते तुझ्याशी बोलेल.
23 For, a lamp, is the commandment, and, the instruction, a light, and, the way of life, are the reproofs of correction:
२३कारण ती आज्ञा दिवा आहेत आणि शिक्षण प्रकाश आहे; शिस्तीचा दोषारोप जीवनाचा मार्ग आहे.
24 To keep thee from the wicked woman, from the flattery of the tongue of her that is a stranger.
२४ते तुला अनितीमान स्त्रीकडे जाण्यापासून परावृत्त करते, व्यभिचारी स्त्रीच्या गोडबोल्या जिभेपासून तुझे रक्षण करते.
25 Do not covet her beauty, in thy heart, neither let her take thee, by her eyelashes;
२५तू आपल्या हृदयात तिच्या सुंदरतेची लालसा धरू नकोस, आणि ती आपल्या पापण्यांनी तुला वश न करो.
26 Because, for the sake of an impure woman, [a man may be brought] even to a cake of bread, —and, a man’s wife, for a precious soul, may hunt!
२६वेश्येबरोबर झोपल्याने भाकरीच्या तुकड्याची किंमत चुकवावी लागते, पण दुसऱ्याच्या पत्नीची किंमत म्हणून तुला तुझ्या स्वतःचे जीवन द्यावे लागेल.
27 Can a man snatch up fire in his bosom, and, his clothes, not be burned?
२७मनुष्याने आपल्या छातीशी विस्तव धरून ठेवला तर, त्याचे कपडे जळल्याशिवाय राहतील काय?
28 Or can a man walk upon hot coals, and, his feet, not be burned?
२८जर एखादा मनुष्य निखाऱ्यांवर चालला, तर त्याचे पाय भाजल्याशिवाय राहतील काय?
29 So, he that goeth in unto his neighbour’s wife, no man shall be guiltless who toucheth her!
२९जो कोणी आपल्या शेजाऱ्याच्या पत्नीबरोबर जातो तो असाच आहे; जो कोणी तिच्याबरोबर संबंध ठेवतो त्यास शिक्षा झाल्याशिवाय राहणार नाही.
30 Men despise not a thief, when he stealeth, to satisfy his appetite, because he is famished;
३०जर चोर चोरी करताना पकडला तर लोक त्यास तुच्छ मानत नाही; तो भुकेला असताना त्याची भूक शमविण्यासाठी त्याने चोरी केली.
31 Yet, if found, he must pay back sevenfold, All the substance of his house, must he give:
३१पण तो पकडला गेला, तर त्याने चोरी केली त्याच्या सातपट परत देईल, तो आपल्या घरचे सर्वच द्रव्य देईल.
32 He that committeth adultery with a woman, lacketh sense, A destroyer of his own life, is he that doeth it;
३२जो व्यभिचार करतो तो बुद्धिहीन आहे; जो आपल्या जिवाचा नाश करू इच्छितो तो असे करतो.
33 Smiting and shame, shall he find, and, his reproach, shall not be wiped out;
३३जखमा व अप्रतिष्ठा त्यास प्राप्त होतील, आणि त्याची लज्जा कधीही धुतली जाणार नाही.
34 For, jealousy, is the rage of a man, nor will he spare, in the day of avenging;
३४कारण ईर्ष्या मनुष्यास संतप्त करते; सूड उगविण्याच्या दिवशी तो गय करणार नाही.
35 He will not look, at any ransom, neither will he consent, though thou increase the bribe.
३५तो काही खंडणी स्वीकारणार नाही, आणि त्यास खूप दाने दिली तरी तो शांत राहणार नाही.
