Proverbs 4
1 Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.
Hört, ihr Kinder, die väterliche Unterweisung und merkt wohl auf, um Einsicht zu lernen!
2 For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.
Denn treffliche Lehre gebe ich euch: laßt meine Weisungen nicht unbeachtet!
3 For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.
Denn als ich noch als Sohn bei meinem Vater war, als zartes und einziges Kind unter der Obhut meiner Mutter,
4 So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!
da belehrte er mich und sagte zu mir: »Laß dein Herz meine Worte festhalten! Beobachte meine Weisungen, so wirst du leben.
5 Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.
Erwirb dir Weisheit, erwirb dir Einsicht, vergiß sie nicht und weiche nicht ab von den Worten meines Mundes!
6 Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.
Laß sie nicht außer acht, so wird sie dich behüten; gewinne sie lieb, so wird sie dich beschirmen.
7 The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.
Mit dem besten Teil deiner Habe erwirb dir Weisheit, und um den Preis deines ganzen Vermögens verschaffe dir Einsicht!
8 Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:
Halte sie hoch, so wird sie dir Ansehen verleihen, wird dich zu Ehren bringen, wenn du sie mit Liebe umfängst;
9 She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.
sie wird dir einen schönen Kranz aufs Haupt setzen, eine herrliche Krone dir bescheren.«
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.
Höre, mein Sohn, und nimm meine Worte an, so werden dir viele Lebensjahre zuteil werden.
11 In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.
Über den Weg der Weisheit will ich dich belehren, will dich auf rechten Bahnen einhergehen lassen;
12 When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
wenn du (auf ihnen) wandelst, wird dein Schritt nicht gehemmt sein, und wenn du läufst, wirst du nicht zu Fall kommen.
13 Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.
Halte an der Zucht fest, laß sie nicht fahren! Bewahre sie, denn sie ist dein Leben.
14 Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:
Begib dich nicht auf den Pfad der Gottlosen und schreite nicht einher auf dem Wege der Bösen!
15 Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.
Meide ihn, gehe nicht auf ihn hinüber! Wende dich von ihm ab und gehe daran vorüber!
16 For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,
Denn sie können nicht schlafen, wenn sie nicht Böses (zuvor) getan haben; und der Schlaf ist ihnen geraubt, wenn sie nicht jemand verführt haben;
17 For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.
denn das Brot, das sie essen, ist Gottlosigkeit, und der Wein, den sie trinken, ist Gewalttätigkeit.
18 But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.
Aber der Pfad der Gerechten gleicht dem Glanz des Morgenlichts, das immer heller leuchtet bis zur vollen Tageshöhe.
19 The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.
Der Weg der Gottlosen ist wie dunkle Nacht; sie gewahren nicht, worüber sie straucheln.
20 My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;
Mein Sohn, merke auf meine Worte, leihe meinen Reden dein Ohr!
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;
Laß sie deinen Augen nie entschwinden, bewahre sie im Innersten deines Herzens!
22 For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.
Denn Leben sind sie für jeden, der sie erfaßt, und heilsame Arznei für seinen ganzen Leib.
23 Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.
Mehr als alles, was man zu bewachen hat, behüte dein Herz; denn von ihm hängt das Leben ab.
24 Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.
Tu Falschheit des Mundes von dir ab und laß Lug und Trug fern von deinen Lippen sein!
25 Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.
Dann können deine Augen geradeaus schauen und deine Augenlider frei vor dich hinblicken.
26 Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:
Laß deinen Fuß auf gerader Bahn gehen und alle deine Wege fest gerichtet sein!
27 Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
Weiche nicht nach rechts noch nach links ab; halte deinen Fuß vom Bösen fern!
