Proverbs 4
1 Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.
Höret, Söhne, die Unterweisung des Vaters, und merket auf, um Verstand zu kennen!
2 For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.
Denn gute Lehre gebe ich euch: verlasset meine Belehrung nicht.
3 For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.
Denn ein Sohn bin ich meinem Vater gewesen, ein zarter und einziger vor meiner Mutter.
4 So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!
Und er lehrte mich und sprach zu mir: Dein Herz halte meine Worte fest; beobachte meine Gebote und lebe.
5 Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.
Erwirb Weisheit, erwirb Verstand; vergiß nicht und weiche nicht ab von den Reden meines Mundes.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.
Verlaß sie nicht, und sie wird dich behüten; liebe sie, und sie wird dich bewahren.
7 The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.
Der Weisheit Anfang ist: Erwirb Weisheit; und um alles, was du erworben hast, erwirb Verstand.
8 Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:
Halte sie hoch, und sie wird dich erhöhen; sie wird dich zu Ehren bringen, wenn du sie umarmst.
9 She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.
Sie wird deinem Haupte einen anmutigen Kranz verleihen, wird dir darreichen eine prächtige Krone.
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.
Höre, mein Sohn, und nimm meine Reden an! und des Lebens Jahre werden sich dir mehren.
11 In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.
Ich unterweise dich in dem Wege der Weisheit, leite dich auf Bahnen der Geradheit.
12 When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Wenn du gehst, wird dein Schritt nicht beengt werden, und wenn du läufst, wirst du nicht straucheln.
13 Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.
Halte fest an der Unterweisung, laß sie nicht los; bewahre sie, denn sie ist dein Leben. -
14 Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:
Komm nicht auf den Pfad der Gesetzlosen, und schreite nicht einher auf dem Wege der Bösen.
15 Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.
Laß ihn fahren, gehe nicht darauf; wende dich von ihm ab und gehe vorbei.
16 For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,
Denn sie schlafen nicht, wenn sie nichts Böses getan, und ihr Schlaf wird ihnen geraubt, wenn sie nicht zu Fall gebracht haben.
17 For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.
Denn sie essen Brot der Gesetzlosigkeit, und trinken Wein der Gewalttaten.
18 But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.
Aber der Pfad der Gerechten ist wie das glänzende Morgenlicht, das stets heller leuchtet bis zur Tageshöhe.
19 The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.
Der Weg der Gesetzlosen ist dem Dunkel gleich; sie erkennen nicht, worüber sie straucheln.
20 My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;
Mein Sohn, merke auf meine Worte, neige dein Ohr zu meinen Reden.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;
Laß sie nicht von deinen Augen weichen, bewahre sie im Innern deines Herzens.
22 For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.
Denn Leben sind sie denen, die sie finden, und Gesundheit ihrem ganzen Fleische. -
23 Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.
Behüte dein Herz mehr als alles, was zu bewahren ist; denn von ihm aus sind die Ausgänge des Lebens. -
24 Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.
Tue von dir die Verkehrtheit des Mundes, und die Verdrehtheit der Lippen entferne von dir. -
25 Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.
Laß deine Augen geradeaus blicken, und deine Wimpern stracks vor dich hin schauen. -
26 Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:
Ebne die Bahn deines Fußes, und alle deine Wege seien gerade; [Eig. gerichtet; s. die Anm. zu Hiob 11,13]
27 Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
biege nicht aus zur Rechten noch zur Linken, wende deinen Fuß ab vom Bösen.
