< Proverbs 4 >

1 Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.
Ka canaw, na pa ni na cangkhainae hah thai awh nateh, thaipanueknae hah panue hanelah na hnâpakeng awh.
2 For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, cangkhainae kahawi hah na poe dawkvah, kaie kâlawk hah cettakhai hanh.
3 For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.
Apa e capa lah ka o navah, anu e capa a pahren e tawntoe e capa lah ka o.
4 So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!
Pâtu hai na pâtu teh, na lungthin hoi ka lawknaw hah pâkuem haw. Kaie kâpoelawknaw hah tarawi nateh hring haw.
5 Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.
Lungangnae hah tawn nateh, thaipanueknae hah tawn haw. Ka pahni dawk hoi ka tâcawt e lawknaw hah pahnim laipalah, kamlang takhai hanh.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.
Cettakhai hanh, na ring nakaima. Lungpataw haw na ngue han kaima.
7 The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.
Lungangnae teh a lawkpui poung doeh.
8 Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:
Talue sak haw, na tawmrasang han. Tapam haw, barinae koe na ceikhai han.
9 She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.
Na lû dawk lungmanae na kâmuk sak han, bawilennae bawilakhung hah na kâmuk sak han.
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.
Ka capa, ka dei e hah thai nateh, dâw haw. Na hringyung a saw sak han.
11 In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.
Lungangnae lamthung na cangkhai teh, lamkalan dawk na hrawi.
12 When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Na cei navah, na khok hanelah kamthuinae awm mahoeh, na yawng navah na tâlaw mahoeh.
13 Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.
Na cangkhainae hah kacaklah kuen nateh, tha laipalah pou kuen haw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, na hringnae doeh.
14 Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:
Tamikathoutnaw e lamthung dawk kâen awh hanh. Tami kahawihoehnaw e lamthung dawn hanh.
15 Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.
Roun nateh, khoeroe dawn hanh, kamlang takhai nateh, cettakhaih.
16 For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,
Bangkongtetpawiteh, hno kathout sak hoeh pawiteh, ip thai awh hoeh niteh, tami buetbuet touh tâlaw sak hoehpawiteh, ihmu tho awh hoeh.
17 For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, thoenae vaiyei hah a ca awh teh, rektapnae yamu hah a nei awh.
18 But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.
Hatei, tamikalannaw e lamthung teh, kanî raeng, kanî tuengtalueng a thunnae kanî ang patetlah ao.
19 The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.
Tamikathoutnaw e lamthung teh khohmo patetlah ao teh, tâlawnae akungcing hai panuek awh hoeh.
20 My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;
Ka capa, ka lawk kahawicalah thai haw, ka dei e hah atangcalah pouk.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;
Na mit hoi kâhlat sak hanh, na lungthin dawk pâkuemh.
22 For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, kahmawtnaw hanelah hringnae lah ao teh, a takthai abuemlah hanelah damnae lah ao.
23 Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.
Hno pueng hlak hoi na lungthin hah kahawicalah ring haw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, hringnae akungtuen lah ao.
24 Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.
Dumyennae pahni hah pahnawt nateh, payonnae pahni hah ahlanae koe takhoe haw.
25 Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.
Na mit hoi hmalah kalan lah khen nateh, na hmalah kalan lah radoung haw.
26 Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:
Na lamthung hah hmaloe rip nateh, na lamthung pueng hah cak sak.
27 Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
Aranglah nakunghai, avoilah nakunghai phen hanh. Thoenae lamthung hah roun haw.
