Proverbs 27
1 Do not boast thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Freu dich nicht auf den Morgen! Denn du weißt nicht, was ein Tag gebären mag.
2 Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth, a stranger, and not thine own lips.
Ein anderer Mund, nicht deiner rühme dich, ein fremder, doch nicht deine eigenen Lippen!
3 Heavy is a stone, and weighty is sand, —but, the vexation of a fool, is heavier than both.
Der Stein ist schwer; gewichtig ist der Sand; doch der Verdruß, von einem Toren dir bereitet, ist schwerer als die beiden.
4 The cruelty of rage, and the overflow of anger! But who can stand before, jealousy?
Die Wut mag grimmig sein; der Zorn mag überschäumen; doch wer kann vor der Eifersucht bestehen?
5 Better is a rebuke that is open, than love carefully concealed.
Viel besser Rüge, die enthüllt, als Liebe, die verschleiert.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but lavished are the kisses of an enemy.
Aufrichtig sind gemeint des Freundes Schläge; des Feindes Küsse sind geheuchelt.
7 The surfeited soul, trampleth upon droppings from the comb, but, to the hungry soul, every bitter thing, is sweet.
Dem satten Gaumen ekelt's vor dem Honigseim; dem Hungrigen ist alles Bittere süß.
8 As a bird wandering from her nest, so, is a man wandering from his place.
Ein Vogel, der dem Nest entflieht: so ist ein Mann, der seinen Heimatort verläßt.
9 Oil and perfume, rejoice the heart, the sweetness of one’s friend, more than fragrant wood.
Salböl und Räucherwerk erheitern das Gemüt; des Freundes Süßigkeit geht über die des Duftgehölzes.
10 Thine own friend and thy father’s friend, do not thou forsake; but, the house of thy brother, do not enter, in thy day of calamity, Better a neighbour near, than a brother far off.
Den alten Freund des Hauses übergehe nicht! Klopf nicht an deines Bruders Haus am Tage deiner Not! Viel besser ist ein Nachbar in der Nähe als ein Bruder in der Ferne!
11 Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart, that I may answer him that reproacheth me in a matter.
Mein Sohn! Sei weise und erfreu mein Herz! Damit ich rechte Antwort einem geben kann, der mich beschimpfen will.
12 A prudent man, seeth calamity—he hideth himself, the simple, pass on—they suffer.
Der Kluge sah das Unheil und versteckte sich; die Toren gingen weiter und erlitten Schaden.
13 Take a man’s garment when he hath become pledge for a stranger, then, for a female unknown, accept him as surety.
Wer einem andern bürgt, dem nimm sein Kleid! Pfänd ihn um Fremder willen!
14 He that blesseth his friend, with a loud voice, in the morning early, a reproach, shall it be reckoned to him.
Wer seinen Nächsten allzu laut und gar zu früh lobpreist, dem kann's als Fluchen angerechnet werden.
15 A continuous dripping on a day of downpour, and a contentious wife, are alike:
Ein triefend Dach zur Zeit des Regenwetters ist ein zänkisch Weib; sie gleichen sich.
16 He that hideth her, hideth the wind, and, perfume, his right hand may proclaim.
Der Nordwind ist ein rauher Wind; und er wird doch der "Glückverheißende" genannt.
17 Let, iron, by iron, become sharp, and let, a man, sharpen the face of his friend.
Wie Eisen sich dem Eisen eint, so eint ein Mann sich seinem Freund.
18 He that guardeth the fig-tree, shall eat the fruit thereof, and, he that watcheth over his master, shall be honoured.
Des Feigenbaumes Frucht genießt, wer diesen pflegt, und wer den seines Herren wartet, findet seinen Lohn.
19 As in water, face [answereth] to face, so, the heart of man to man.
Gleichwie beim Wasser sich die Form der Form anpaßt, so auch des Menschen Herz dem Herzen.
20 Hades and destruction, are not satisfied, and, the eyes of a man, are not satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
Der Abgrund und die Unterwelt sind unersättlich; so sind der Menschen Augen gleichfalls nicht zu sättigen. (Sheol h7585)
21 Fining pot for silver, and crucible for gold, and, a man, [is to be tried] by what he praiseth.
Nach Silber wird der Tiegel eingeschätzt; der Ofen nach dem Gold, ein Mann nach dem, was er bewundert.
22 Though thou pound a fool in a mortar, amidst grain, with a pestle, his folly, will not depart from him.
Zerstießest du den Toren selbst im Mörser, selbst mitten in der Grütze mit der Keule, nicht würde seine Torheit von ihm weichen.
23 Note well, the appearance of thy flock, apply thy mind to thy herds;
Hab acht auf deine besten Schafe, sei wachsam auf die Herden!
24 For, not age-abiding, are riches, nor is the diadem, from generation to generation: —
Denn bares Geld reicht nicht für immer; nicht währt der Zins für alle Zeiten.
25 The grass, is taken away, and the young shoot, showeth itself, and the herbage of the mountains, is gathered;
Sprießt Gras empor, erscheint das frische Grün, und werden auf den Bergen Kräuter eingeheimst,
26 There are, lambs, for thy clothing, and, for the price of thy field, there are he-goats;
dann hast du Lämmer für die Kleidung und Böcke zum Erwerb von Feldern
27 With, enough goats-milk, for thy food—for the food of thy household, and, a maintenance, for thy maidens.
und Ziegenmilch genug für deine und für deines Hauses Nahrung und Lebensmittel für die Mägde.
