Proverbs 27
1 Do not boast thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Rühme dich nicht des morgenden Tages, denn du weißt nicht, was ein Tag gebiert.
2 Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth, a stranger, and not thine own lips.
Es rühme dich ein anderer und nicht dein Mund, ein Fremder und nicht deine Lippen.
3 Heavy is a stone, and weighty is sand, —but, the vexation of a fool, is heavier than both.
Schwer ist der Stein, und der Sand eine Last; aber der Unmut des Narren ist schwerer als beide.
4 The cruelty of rage, and the overflow of anger! But who can stand before, jealousy?
Grimm ist grausam, und Zorn eine überströmende Flut; wer aber kann bestehen vor der Eifersucht!
5 Better is a rebuke that is open, than love carefully concealed.
Besser offener Tadel als verhehlte Liebe.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but lavished are the kisses of an enemy.
Treugemeint sind die Wunden dessen, der liebt, und überreichlich des Hassers Küsse.
7 The surfeited soul, trampleth upon droppings from the comb, but, to the hungry soul, every bitter thing, is sweet.
Eine satte Seele zertritt Honigseim; aber einer hungrigen Seele ist alles Bittere süß.
8 As a bird wandering from her nest, so, is a man wandering from his place.
Wie ein Vogel, der fern von seinem Neste schweift: so ein Mann, der fern von seinem Wohnorte schweift.
9 Oil and perfume, rejoice the heart, the sweetness of one’s friend, more than fragrant wood.
Öl und Räucherwerk erfreuen das Herz, und die Süßigkeit eines Freundes kommt aus dem Rate der Seele.
10 Thine own friend and thy father’s friend, do not thou forsake; but, the house of thy brother, do not enter, in thy day of calamity, Better a neighbour near, than a brother far off.
Verlaß nicht deinen Freund und deines Vaters Freund, und geh nicht am Tage deiner Not in deines Bruders Haus: besser ein naher Nachbar als ein ferner Bruder.
11 Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart, that I may answer him that reproacheth me in a matter.
Sei weise, mein Sohn, und erfreue mein Herz, damit ich Antwort geben könne meinem Schmäher.
12 A prudent man, seeth calamity—he hideth himself, the simple, pass on—they suffer.
Der Kluge sieht das Unglück und verbirgt sich; die Einfältigen gehen weiter und leiden Strafe.
13 Take a man’s garment when he hath become pledge for a stranger, then, for a female unknown, accept him as surety.
Nimm ihm das Kleid, denn er ist für einen anderen Bürge geworden; und der Fremden halber pfände ihn.
14 He that blesseth his friend, with a loud voice, in the morning early, a reproach, shall it be reckoned to him.
Wer frühmorgens aufsteht und seinem Nächsten mit lauter Stimme Glück wünscht, als Verwünschung wird es ihm angerechnet.
15 A continuous dripping on a day of downpour, and a contentious wife, are alike:
Eine beständige Traufe am Tage des strömenden Regens und ein zänkisches Weib gleichen sich.
16 He that hideth her, hideth the wind, and, perfume, his right hand may proclaim.
Wer dieses zurückhält, hält den Wind zurück und seine Rechte greift in Öl.
17 Let, iron, by iron, become sharp, and let, a man, sharpen the face of his friend.
Eisen wird scharf durch Eisen, und ein Mann schärft das Angesicht des anderen.
18 He that guardeth the fig-tree, shall eat the fruit thereof, and, he that watcheth over his master, shall be honoured.
Wer des Feigenbaumes wartet, wird seine Frucht essen; und wer über seinen Herrn wacht, wird geehrt werden.
19 As in water, face [answereth] to face, so, the heart of man to man.
Wie im Wasser das Angesicht dem Angesicht entspricht, so das Herz des Menschen dem Menschen.
20 Hades and destruction, are not satisfied, and, the eyes of a man, are not satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
Scheol und Abgrund sind unersättlich: so sind unersättlich die Augen des Menschen. (Sheol h7585)
21 Fining pot for silver, and crucible for gold, and, a man, [is to be tried] by what he praiseth.
Der Schmelztiegel für das Silber, und der Ofen für das Gold; und ein Mann nach Maßgabe seines Lobes.
22 Though thou pound a fool in a mortar, amidst grain, with a pestle, his folly, will not depart from him.
Wenn du den Narren mit der Keule im Mörser zerstießest, mitten unter der Grütze, so würde seine Narrheit doch nicht von ihm weichen.
23 Note well, the appearance of thy flock, apply thy mind to thy herds;
Bekümmere dich wohl um das Aussehen deines Kleinviehes, richte deine Aufmerksamkeit auf die Herden.
24 For, not age-abiding, are riches, nor is the diadem, from generation to generation: —
Denn Wohlstand ist nicht ewig; und währt eine Krone von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht?
25 The grass, is taken away, and the young shoot, showeth itself, and the herbage of the mountains, is gathered;
Ist geschwunden das Heu, und erscheint das junge Gras, und sind eingesammelt die Kräuter der Berge,
26 There are, lambs, for thy clothing, and, for the price of thy field, there are he-goats;
so dienen Schafe zu deiner Kleidung, und der Kaufpreis für ein Feld sind Böcke;
27 With, enough goats-milk, for thy food—for the food of thy household, and, a maintenance, for thy maidens.
und genug Ziegenmilch ist da zu deiner Nahrung, zur Nahrung deines Hauses, und Lebensunterhalt für deine Mägde.
