Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;
No tengas envidia de los malvados, ni desees su compañía,
2 For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.
porque ellos conspiran planes crueles y discuten entre ellos para causar tribulación.
3 In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;
Una casa se construye con sabiduría. Su fundamento seguro es la inteligencia.
4 And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.
Sus habitaciones están llenas de conocimiento, con todo tipo de hermosos y valiosos objetos.
5 A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.
Si tienes sabiduría, serás fuerte. Si tienes inteligencia, tu poder aumentará.
6 Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.
Porque con la guía correcta, podrás ir a la guerra, y serás victorioso si tienes muchos buenos consejeros.
7 Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.
La sabiduría examina las mentes de los tontos. Ellos no tienen nada que aportar en las discusiones sobre los asuntos importantes.
8 He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.
Todo aquel que hace planes para hacer el mal, será considerado un problemático.
9 The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.
Los planes que hacen los tontos son de pecado. Todos aborrecen a los que se burlan de otros.
10 Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.
Si te rindes en el momento de la prueba, mostraras cuan débil eres.
11 Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!
Rescata a los que son expulsados para ser ejecutados. Salva a los que desfallecen de camino a su muerte.
12 Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?
Si dices: “No sabíamos nada sobre esto”, ¿no crees que el Dios que juzga las motivaciones no se dará cuenta de lo que ocurre realmente? El que te mira desde arriba lo sabe todo, y le pagará a todos según sus actos.
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good, —and droppings from the comb [because they are] sweet to thy palate:
Hijo mío, comer miel te conviene; el panal de miel tiene un dulce sabor.
14 Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
Del mismo modo, debes saber que te conviene la sabiduría; y que sin la encuentras habrá un futuro para ti que no será frustrado.
15 Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous, —neither destroy thou his place of rest;
No seas como el criminal que espera para entrar por sorpresa en las casas de las buenas personas. No ataques el lugar donde viven.
16 For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.
Los que hacen el bien podrán caer siete veces, y aun así se levantaran; pero el desastre vendrá para derribar a los malvados.
17 When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:
No celebres cuando tu enemigo caiga. No te alegues cuando se tropiece,
18 Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.
porque puede que cuando el Señor lo note, se desagrade de ti y no lo castigue como lo había pensado.
19 Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;
No te enojes por causa de los malvados, ni sientas celos por los que hacen el mal,
20 For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.
porque los malvados no tienen futuro. La lámpara de los malvados se apagará.
21 Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;
Hijo mío, honra al Señor y al rey, y no te juntes con los rebeldes,
22 For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?
porque el desastre vendrá sobre ellos repentinamente. ¿Quién podrá saber cómo los castigarán el Señor y el rey?
23 These things also, concern the wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.
Estos son más dichos del sabio: Mostrar preferencias cuando emites un juicio no es bueno.
24 He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;
Los que le dicen al culpable: “Eres inocente”, serán malditos por el pueblo y odiados por la nación,
25 But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:
pero los que condenan al culpable serán estimados, y recibirán rica bendición.
26 Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.
Una respuesta honesta es como un beso en los labios.
27 Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.
Haz primero el trabajo que necesitas hacer afuera y prepárate para sembrar tus campos. Solo después de eso, comienza a construir tu casa.
28 Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:
No seas testigo contra tu prójimo sin tener una buena razón, ni digas mentiras.
29 Do not say—According to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.
No digas en tu pensamiento: “Voy a hacerle lo mismo que me hizo! ¡Haré que me pague por lo que ha hecho!”
30 By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;
Mientras caminaba, pasé por el campo del hombre perezoso, y por el viñedo de un insensato.
31 And lo! there had come up all over it—thorns, there had covered the face thereof—thistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.
Y estaba lleno de monte y espinas, el suelo estaba cubierto de hierba y la piedra angular se había caído.
32 So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I looked—I accepted correction:
Y mientras veía, pensé y aprendí una lección:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:
Puedes decir: “Solo dormiré un poco más, me recostaré apenas un rato, y cruzaré mis brazos para descansar un poco más”,
34 So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
pero la pobreza te atacará como un ladrón, y la miseria como un guerrero armado.
