Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;
दुष्टों से ईर्ष्या न करना, उनके साहचर्य की कामना भी न करना;
2 For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.
उनके मस्तिष्क में हिंसा की युक्ति तैयार होती रहती है, और उनके मुख से हानिकर शब्द ही निकलते हैं.
3 In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;
गृह-निर्माण के लिए विद्वत्ता आवश्यक होती है, और इसकी स्थापना के लिए चतुरता;
4 And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.
ज्ञान के द्वारा घर के कक्षों में सभी प्रकार की बहुमूल्य तथा सुखदाई वस्तुएं सजाई जाती हैं.
5 A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.
ज्ञानवान व्यक्ति शक्तिमान व्यक्ति होता है, विद्वान अपनी शक्ति में वृद्धि करता जाता है.
6 Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.
क्योंकि कुशल दिशा-निर्देश के द्वारा ही युद्ध में तुम आक्रमण कर सकते हो, अनेक परामर्शदाताओं के परामर्श से विजय सुनिश्चित हो जाती है.
7 Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.
मूर्ख के लिए ज्ञान पहुंच के बाहर होता है; बुद्धिमानों की सभा में वह चुप रह जाता है.
8 He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.
वह, जो अनर्थ की युक्ति करता है वह षड़्यंत्रकारी के रूप में कुख्यात हो जाता है.
9 The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.
मूर्खतापूर्ण योजना वस्तुतः पाप ही है, और ज्ञान का ठट्ठा करनेवाला सभी के लिए तिरस्कार बन जाता है.
10 Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.
कठिन परिस्थिति में तुम्हारा हताश होना तुम्हारी सीमित शक्ति का कारण है.
11 Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!
जिन्हें मृत्यु दंड के लिए ले जाया जा रहा है, उन्हें विमुक्त कर दो; और वे, जो लड़खड़ाते पैरों से अपने ही वध की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं, उन्हें वहीं रोक लो.
12 Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?
यदि तुम यह कहो, “देखिए, इस विषय में हमें तो कुछ भी ज्ञात नहीं था.” क्या वे, परमेश्वर जो मन को जांचनेवाले हैं, यह सब नहीं समझते? क्या उन्हें, जो तुम्हारे जीवन के रक्षक हैं, यह ज्ञात नहीं? क्या वह सभी को उनके कार्यों के अनुरूप प्रतिफल न देंगे?
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good, —and droppings from the comb [because they are] sweet to thy palate:
मेरे प्रिय बालक, मधु का सेवन करो क्योंकि यह भला है; छत्ते से टपकता हुआ मधु स्वादिष्ट होता है.
14 Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
यह भी समझ लो, कि तुम्हारे जीवन में ज्ञान भी ऐसी ही है: यदि तुम इसे अपना लोगे तो उज्जवल होगा तुम्हारा भविष्य, और तुम्हारी आशाएं अपूर्ण न रह जाएंगी.
15 Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous, —neither destroy thou his place of rest;
दुष्ट व्यक्ति! धर्मी व्यक्ति के घर पर घात लगाकर न बैठ और न उसके विश्रामालय को नष्ट करने की युक्ति कर;
16 For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.
क्योंकि सात बार गिरने पर भी धर्मी व्यक्ति पुनः उठ खड़ा होता है, किंतु दुष्टों को विपत्ति नष्ट कर जाती है.
17 When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:
तुम्हारे विरोधी का पतन तुम्हारे हर्ष का विषय न हो; और उन्हें ठोकर लगने पर तुम आनंदित न होना,
18 Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.
ऐसा न हो कि यह याहवेह की अप्रसन्नता का विषय हो जाए और उन पर से याहवेह का क्रोध जाता रहे.
19 Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;
दुष्टों के वैभव को देख कुढ़ने न लगाना और न बुराइयों की जीवनशैली से ईर्ष्या करना,
20 For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.
क्योंकि दुष्ट का कोई भविष्य नहीं होता, उनके जीवनदीप का बुझना निर्धारित है.
21 Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;
मेरे पुत्र, याहवेह तथा राजा के प्रति श्रद्धा बनाए रखो, उनसे दूर रहो, जिनमें विद्रोही प्रवृत्ति है,
22 For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?
सर्वनाश उन पर अचानक रूप से आ पड़ेगा और इसका अनुमान कौन लगा सकता है, कि याहवेह और राजा द्वारा उन पर भयानक विनाश का रूप कैसा होगा?
23 These things also, concern the wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.
ये भी बुद्धिमानों द्वारा बोली गई सूक्तियां हैं: न्याय में पक्षपात करना उचित नहीं है:
24 He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;
जो कोई अपराधी से कहता है, “तुम निर्दोष हो,” वह लोगों द्वारा शापित किया जाएगा तथा अन्य राष्ट्रों द्वारा घृणास्पद समझा जाएगा.
25 But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:
किंतु जो अपराधी को फटकारते हैं उल्लसित रहेंगे, और उन पर सुखद आशीषों की वृष्टि होगी.
26 Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.
सुसंगत प्रत्युत्तर होंठों पर किए गए चुम्बन-समान सुखद होता है.
27 Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.
पहले अपने बाह्य कार्य पूर्ण करके खेत को तैयार कर लो और तब अपना गृह-निर्माण करो.
28 Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:
बिना किसी संगत के कारण अपने पड़ोसी के विरुद्ध साक्षी न देना, और न अपनी साक्षी के द्वारा उसे झूठा प्रमाणित करना.
29 Do not say—According to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.
यह कभी न कहना, “मैं उसके साथ वैसा ही करूंगा, जैसा उसने मेरे साथ किया है; उसने मेरे साथ जो कुछ किया है, मैं उसका बदला अवश्य लूंगा.”
30 By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;
मैं उस आलसी व्यक्ति की वाटिका के पास से निकल रहा था, वह मूर्ख व्यक्ति था, जिसकी वह द्राक्षावाटिका थी.
31 And lo! there had come up all over it—thorns, there had covered the face thereof—thistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.
मैंने देखा कि समस्त वाटिका में, कंटीली झाड़ियां बढ़ आई थीं, सारी भूमि पर बिच्छू बूटी छा गई थी.
32 So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I looked—I accepted correction:
यह सब देख मैं विचार करने लगा, जो कुछ मैंने देखा उससे मुझे यह शिक्षा प्राप्त हुई:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:
थोड़ी और नींद, थोड़ा और विश्राम, कुछ देर और हाथ पर हाथ रखे हुए विश्राम,
34 So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
तब देखना निर्धनता कैसे तुझ पर डाकू के समान टूट पड़ती है और गरीबी, सशस्त्र पुरुष के समान.
