Numbers 1
1 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses in the desert of Sinai in the tent of meeting, —on the first of the second month in the second year by their coming forth out of the land of Egypt saying:
In de woestijn van de Sinaï sprak Jahweh tot Moses in de openbaringstent op de eerste dag van de tweede maand in het tweede jaar na hun uittocht uit Egypte:
2 Reckon ye up the sum of all the assembly of the sons of Israel, by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, every male, by their polls;
Neemt het getal op van de hele gemeenschap der Israëlieten, naar hun geslachten en families, door alle mannelijke personen hoofd voor hoofd te tellen.
3 from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war in Israel, —ye shall number them by their hosts, thou and Aaron;
Alle strijdbare mannen in Israël van twintig jaar af moet gij monsteren volgens hun legerkorpsen; gij en Aäron
4 and with you, shall be one man for each tribe, —each man, head of his ancestral house, shall be.
moeten het doen, en uit iedere stam moet één man, een familiehoofd, u helpen.
5 These, then, are the names of the men who shall stand with you, —Of Reuben, Elizur, son of Shedeur;
Hier volgen de namen van de mannen, die u ter zijde moeten staan: Voor Ruben Elisoer, de zoon van Sjedeoer;
6 Of Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;
voor Simeon Sjeloemiël, de zoon van Soerisjaddai;
7 Of Judah, Nahshon, son of Amminadab;
voor Juda Naässon, de zoon van Amminadab;
8 Of Issachar, Nethanel, son of Zuar;
voor Issakar Netanel, de zoon van Soear;
9 Of Zebulun, Eliab, son of Helon;
voor Zabulon Eliab, de zoon van Chelon.
10 Of the sons of Joseph, —Of Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; Of Manasseh, Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur;
Voor de zonen van Josef, voor Efraïm Elisjama, de zoon van Ammihoed; voor Manasse Gamliël, de zoon van Pedasoer.
11 Of Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;
Voor Benjamin Abidan, de zoon van Gidoni;
12 Of Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;

13 Of Asher, Pagiel, son of Ochran;

14 Of Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;

15 Of Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.

16 These, are they who had been summoned by the assembly, being princes of the tribes of their fathers, —heads of the thousands of Israel.
Deze moeten uit de gemeenschap worden opgeroepen, als de vorsten van de stammen hunner vaderen en stamhoofden van Israël.
17 So then Moses and Aaron took these men, who were distinguished by name;
Moses en Aäron ontboden dus deze mannen, wier namen zijn opgegeven,
18 all the assembly also, called they together on the first of the second month, —and they declared their pedigree according to their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards by their polls.
en riepen op de eerste van de tweede maand de hele gemeenschap bijeen. Zij werden naar hun geslachten en families opgetekend na hoofdelijke telling der personen, die twintig jaar oud waren en meer.
19 As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he mustered them in the desert of Sinai.
Zo monsterde Moses hen in de woestijn van de Sinaï, zoals Jahweh het hem bevolen had.
20 And they were [as followeth] —The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, in their pedigrees—by their families, by their ancestral houses, in the counting of names, by their polls, every male, from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Ruben afstamden, Israëls eerstgeborene, werden naar hun geslachten en families, hoofd voor hoofd, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
21 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Reuben, forty-six thousand and five hundred.
uit de stam van Ruben bedroeg in het geheel zes en veertig duizend vijfhonderd man.
22 Of the sons of Simeon, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, —such as were numbered of him, in the counting of names by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Simeon afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, hoofd voor hoofd, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
23 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Simeon, fifty-nine thousand and three hundred.
uit de stam van Simeon bedroeg in het geheel negen en vijftig duizend driehonderd man.
24 Of the sons of Gad, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war:
De zonen, die van Gad afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
25 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Gad, forty-five thousand and six hundred and fifty.
uit de stam van Gad bedroeg in het geheel vijf en veertig duizend zes honderd vijftig man.
26 Of the sons of Judah, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Juda afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
27 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Judah, seventy-four thousand and six hundred.

28 Of the sons of Issachar, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty year old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Issakar afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
29 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Issachar, fifty-four thousand and four hundred.

30 Of the sons of Zebulun, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Zabulon afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
31 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Zebulun, fifty-seven thousand and four hundred.

34 Of the sons of Manasseh, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Manasse afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
35 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Manasseh, thirty-two thousand, and two hundred.

36 Of the sons of Benjamin, in their pedigrees by their families, by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;

37 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Benjamin, thirty-five thousand and four hundred.

38 Of the sons of Dan, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;

39 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Dan, sixty-two thousand, and seven hundred.

40 Of the sons of Asher, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;

41 such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Asher, forty-one thousand, and five hundred.

42 The sons of Naphtali, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
De zonen, die van Neftali afstamden, werden naar hun geslachten en families, met name geteld; het getal strijdbare mannen van twintig jaar af
43 such as were numbered of them, as belonging to the tribe of Naphtali, fifty-three thousand, and four hundred.
uit de stam van Neftali bedroeg in het geheel drie en vijftig duizend vierhonderd man.
44 These, are they who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron and the twelve princes of Israel did number, the princes acting each one for his ancestral house.
Dit waren de mannen, die Moses en Aäron hadden gemonsterd tezamen met de twaalf vorsten van Israël, één uit elke stam, allen familiehoofden.
45 So then all they who were numbered of the sons of Israel by their ancestral houses, from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war in Israel;
Het totaal der gemonsterden van de Israëlieten naar hun families, alle strijdbare mannen in Israël van twintig jaar af,
46 so then all they who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.
bedroeg zeshonderd drie duizend vijfhonderd vijftig man.
47 But the Levites by the tribe of their fathers were not numbered in their midst.
Maar de stam der Levieten werd niet met hen op de lijst geplaatst.
48 For Yahweh spake unto Moses saying:
Want Jahweh had tot Moses gezegd:
49 Only the tribe of Levi, shalt thou not number, nor the sum of them, shalt thou reckon up, in the midst of the sons of Israel.
De stam van Levi moet ge niet monsteren en hun getal niet bij de andere Israëlieten opnemen.
50 But do, thou thyself, put the Levites in charge over the habitation of the testimony, and over all the furniture thereof and over all that pertaineth thereto, they, shall bear the habitation, and all the furniture thereof, and they, shall attend thereupon; and, round about the habitation, shall they encamp.
De Levieten moet ge belasten met de zorg voor de tabernakel van het Verbond, voor al zijn benodigdheden en alles, wat er toe behoort. Zij moeten de tabernakel dragen en bedienen met alles, wat er toe behoort, en zich dus rond de tabernakel legeren.
51 And, when the habitation is to set forward, the Levites shall take it down, and when the habitation is to be pitched, the Levites, shall set it up, but the stranger that draweth near, shall be put to death.
Wanneer de tabernakel op moet trekken, moeten de Levieten hem afbreken, en wanneer de tabernakel stil houdt, moeten de Levieten hem oprichten; zo een onbevoegde nadert, moet hij worden gedood.
52 So then the sons of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man, near his own camp, and, every man, near his own standard, by their hosts;
En terwijl de Israëlieten zich volgens hun legerafdelingen in hun kampement en onder hun eigen banier moeten legeren,
53 but the Levites, shall pitch their tents round about the habitation of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the assembly of the sons of Israel, —so shall the Levites keep the watch of the habitation of the testimony.
moeten de Levieten zich rond de tabernakel van het Verbond legeren, om de gramschap van God niet te doen losbarsten tegen de gemeenschap van Israëls kinderen; de Levieten moeten dus de dienst van de tabernakel van het Verbond verrichten.
54 Thus did the sons of Israel, —according to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so, did they.
De Israëlieten volbrachten alles nauwkeurig, wat Jahweh Moses bevolen had.
