Numbers 27
1 Then came near the daughters of Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh pertaining to the families of Manasseh, son of Joseph, —these being the names of his daughters, Mahlah Noah and Hoglah and Milcah, and Tirzah.
Alors, les filles de Salphaad, fils d'Opher, fils de Galaad, fils de Machir, de la tribu de Manassé, des fils de Joseph, se présentèrent, et voici leurs noms: Maala, Noa, Egla, Melcha et Thersa.
2 So they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes, and all the assembly, —at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying:
Et, se tenant devant Moïse, ainsi que devant Eléazar le prêtre, devant les chefs et toute la synagogue, vers la porte du tabernacle du témoignage, elles dirent:
3 Our father, died in the desert, although, he, was not among the assembly that conspired against Yahweh, in the assembly of Korah, —but, in his own sin, died he; and sons, had he none.
Notre père est mort dans le désert, et il n'était point de l'attroupement de Coré, soulevé contre le Seigneur; il est mort à cause de son propre péché, et il n'avait pas de fils.
4 Wherefore should the name of our father be withdrawn out of the midst of his family, because he had no son? Give ye unto us a possession, in the midst of the brethren of our father.
Que le nom de notre père ne soit pas effacé du milieu de sa tribu, parce qu'il n'a point laissé de fils; donnes-nous une possession parmi les frères de notre père.
5 And Moses brought near their cause before Yahweh.
Moïse porta leur demande devant le Seigneur.
6 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:
7 A right thing, are the daughters of Zelophehad speaking: Thou shalt, surely give, them a possession for an inheritance, in the midst of the brethren of their father, —and shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass over unto them.
Les filles de Salphaad ont parlé selon la justice; tu leur donneras un héritage parmi les frères de leur père, tu leur attribueras le lot qu'aurait eu leur père.
8 And unto the sons of Israel, shalt thou speak, saying, —When, any man, shall die, having no son, then shall ye cause his inheritance to pass over to his daughter.
Tu parleras ensuite aux fils d'Israël, et tu leur diras: si un homme meurt, et qu'il n'ait point de fils, vous donnerez son héritage à ses filles.
9 And, if he hath no daughter, then shall ye give his inheritance unto his, brethren.
S'il n'a pas de filles, vous donnerez son héritage à son frère.
10 And if he hath no brethren, then shall ye give his inheritance unto the brethren of his father.
S'il n'a point de frère, vous donnerez son héritage au frère de son père.
11 And, if his father hath no brethren, then shall ye give his inheritance unto his blood-relation that is near unto him of his family, and he shall possess it, —So shall it serve the sons of Israel as a regulative statute, As Yahweh commanded Moses.
S'il n'existe point de frère de son père, vous donnerez son héritage à son plus proche parent dans sa tribu, pour que celui-ci possède ce qui lui appartient; loi inviolable pour les fils d'Israël, selon ce que le Seigneur a prescrit à Moïse.
12 And Yahweh said unto Moses, Go up into this mount of Abarim, —and see, the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel;
Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Monte sur la hauteur qui borne la vallée du Jourdain: c'est le mont Nébo, et de là, vois la terre de Chanaan que je donne pour héritage aux fils d'Israël.
13 And, when thou hast seen it, then shalt thou also be withdrawn unto thy kinsfolk, —as Aaron thy brother was withdrawn;
Tu la verras, et tu iras aussi te réunir à ton peuple, comme s'y est réuni ton frère Aaron sur la montagne de Hor;
14 because ye resisted my bidding—in the desert of Zin when the assembly contended, —that ye should hallow me regarding the waters, before their eyes, —the same, were the waters of Meribah, of Kadesh in the desert of Zin.
Parce que vous avez méprisé ma parole dans le désert de Sin, lorsque la synagogue a refusé de me sanctifier; vous ne m'avez point sanctifié au sujet de l'eau en leur présence; c'était l'eau de la contradiction, en Cadès, dans le désert de Sin.
15 Then spake Moses unto Yahweh saying:
Et Moïse dit au Seigneur:
16 Let Yahweh, God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the assembly;
Que le Seigneur des esprits et de toute chair discerne et choisisse un homme
17 who may go out before them and who may come in before them, and who may take them out and who may bring them in, —that the assembly of Yahweh become not as sheep that have no shepherd.
Qui entre et sorte à la tête du peuple, et qui le mène et le ramène, afin que la synagogue du Seigneur ne soit pas comme un troupeau qui n'a point de pasteur.
18 And Yahweh said unto Moses: Take thee Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, —then shalt thou lean thy hand upon him;
Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant: Prends avec toi Josué, fils de Nau; l'homme a en lui l'esprit, et tu lui imposeras les mains.
19 and shalt cause him to stand before Eleazar the priest, and before all the assembly, —and shalt charge him before their eyes;
Tu le placeras devant Eléazar le prêtre, et tu lui donneras mes ordres devant la synagogue, et tu donneras mes ordres au peuple à son sujet.
20 and shalt put some of thine honour upon him, —that all the assembly of the sons of Israel may hearken.
Tu répandras sur lui ta gloire, afin que les fils d'Israël lui obéissent.
21 And, before Eleazar the priest, shall he stand, and shall ask by him for the decision of the Lights, before Yahweh, —at the bidding thereof, shall they go out, and at the bidding thereof, shall they come in—he, and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the assembly.
Il se tiendra devant Eléazar le prêtre, et on lui demandera le jugement des lumières du Seigneur. Au commandement de la bouche du Seigneur, lui et les fils d'Israël, d'un commun accord, iront et reviendront.
22 And Moses did as Yahweh commanded him, —and took Joshua, and caused him to stand before Eleazar the priest, and before all the assembly;
Moïse fit ce qu'avait prescrit le Seigneur; il prit Josué et il le plaça devant Eléazar le prêtre, et devant tout le peuple,
23 and leaned his hands upon him and charged him, —As Yahweh spake by the hand of Moses.
Il lui imposa les mains, et il le constitua chef d'Israël, comme le Seigneur l'avait prescrit à Moïse.
