Numbers 27
1 Then came near the daughters of Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh pertaining to the families of Manasseh, son of Joseph, —these being the names of his daughters, Mahlah Noah and Hoglah and Milcah, and Tirzah.
Alors s’approchèrent les filles de Salphaad, fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, des familles de Manassé, le fils de Joseph; leurs noms étaient Maala, Noa, Hégla, Melcha et Thersa.
2 So they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes, and all the assembly, —at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying:
Elles se présentèrent devant Moïse, devant le prêtre Eléazar, et devant les princes de toute l’assemblée, à l’entrée de la tente de réunion, et elles dirent:
3 Our father, died in the desert, although, he, was not among the assembly that conspired against Yahweh, in the assembly of Korah, —but, in his own sin, died he; and sons, had he none.
« Notre père est mort dans le désert; il n’était pas au milieu de la troupe de ceux qui se liguèrent contre Yahweh, de la troupe de Coré, mais il est mort pour son péché, et il n’avait point de fils.
4 Wherefore should the name of our father be withdrawn out of the midst of his family, because he had no son? Give ye unto us a possession, in the midst of the brethren of our father.
Pourquoi le nom de notre père serait-il retranché du milieu de sa famille, parce qu’il n’a pas eu de fils? Donne-nous une propriété parmi les frères de notre père. »
5 And Moses brought near their cause before Yahweh.
Moïse porta leur cause devant Yahweh;
6 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
et Yahweh dit à Moïse:
7 A right thing, are the daughters of Zelophehad speaking: Thou shalt, surely give, them a possession for an inheritance, in the midst of the brethren of their father, —and shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass over unto them.
« Les filles de Salphaad ont dit une chose juste. Tu leur donneras en héritage une propriété parmi les frères de leur père, et tu leur feras passer l’héritage de leur père.
8 And unto the sons of Israel, shalt thou speak, saying, —When, any man, shall die, having no son, then shall ye cause his inheritance to pass over to his daughter.
Tu parleras aux enfants d’Israël, en disant: Si un homme meurt sans avoir de fils, vous ferez passer son héritage à sa fille;
9 And, if he hath no daughter, then shall ye give his inheritance unto his, brethren.
et s’il n’a point de fille, vous donnerez son héritage à ses frères.
10 And if he hath no brethren, then shall ye give his inheritance unto the brethren of his father.
S’il n’a point de frères, vous donnerez son héritage aux frères de son père;
11 And, if his father hath no brethren, then shall ye give his inheritance unto his blood-relation that is near unto him of his family, and he shall possess it, —So shall it serve the sons of Israel as a regulative statute, As Yahweh commanded Moses.
et s’il n’y a point de frères de son père, vous donnerez son héritage au parent le plus proche dans sa famille, et c’est lui qui le possédera. Ce sera pour les enfants d’Israël une règle de droit, comme Yahweh l’a ordonné à Moïse. »
12 And Yahweh said unto Moses, Go up into this mount of Abarim, —and see, the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel;
Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Monte sur cette montagne d’Abarim, et vois le pays que je donne aux enfants d’Israël.
13 And, when thou hast seen it, then shalt thou also be withdrawn unto thy kinsfolk, —as Aaron thy brother was withdrawn;
Tu le verras, et toi aussi tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple, comme Aaron, ton frère, a été recueilli,
14 because ye resisted my bidding—in the desert of Zin when the assembly contended, —that ye should hallow me regarding the waters, before their eyes, —the same, were the waters of Meribah, of Kadesh in the desert of Zin.
parce que dans le désert de Sin, lors de la contestation de l’assemblée, vous avez été tous deux rebelles à l’ordre que j’avais donné de me sanctifier devant eux à l’occasion des eaux. Ce sont les eaux de Mériba, à Cadès, dans le désert de Sin. »
15 Then spake Moses unto Yahweh saying:
Moïse parla à Yahweh, en disant:
16 Let Yahweh, God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the assembly;
« Que Yahweh, le Dieu des esprits de toute chair, établisse sur l’assemblée un homme
17 who may go out before them and who may come in before them, and who may take them out and who may bring them in, —that the assembly of Yahweh become not as sheep that have no shepherd.
qui sorte devant eux et qui entre devant eux, qui les fasse sortir et qui les fasse entrer, afin que l’assemblée de Yahweh ne soit pas comme des brebis qui n’ont point de berger. »
18 And Yahweh said unto Moses: Take thee Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, —then shalt thou lean thy hand upon him;
Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Prends Josué, fils de Nun, homme en qui réside l’Esprit, et tu poseras ta main sur lui.
19 and shalt cause him to stand before Eleazar the priest, and before all the assembly, —and shalt charge him before their eyes;
Tu le placeras devant Eléazar, le prêtre, et devant toute l’assemblée, et tu l’installeras sous leurs yeux.
20 and shalt put some of thine honour upon him, —that all the assembly of the sons of Israel may hearken.
Tu mettras sur lui une part de ton autorité, afin que toute l’assemblée des enfants d’Israël lui obéisse.
21 And, before Eleazar the priest, shall he stand, and shall ask by him for the decision of the Lights, before Yahweh, —at the bidding thereof, shall they go out, and at the bidding thereof, shall they come in—he, and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the assembly.
Il se présentera devant le prêtre Eléazar, qui consultera pour lui le jugement de l’Urim devant Yahweh; c’est sur son ordre que sortiront, sur son ordre qu’entreront, lui, Josué, tous les enfants d’Israël avec lui et toute l’assemblée. »
22 And Moses did as Yahweh commanded him, —and took Joshua, and caused him to stand before Eleazar the priest, and before all the assembly;
Moïse fit ce que Yahweh lui avait ordonné. Il prit Josué, et il le plaça devant Eléazar, le prêtre, et devant toute l’assemblée.
23 and leaned his hands upon him and charged him, —As Yahweh spake by the hand of Moses.
Et ayant posé ses mains sur lui, il l’installa, comme Yahweh l’avait dit par Moïse.
