Numbers 25
1 And Israel remained among the acacias, —and the people began to go away unchastely unto the daughters of Moab;
Israel aber saß zu Sittim. Da befleckte sich das Volk durch Unzucht mit den Töchtern Moabs.
2 who invited the people unto the sacrifices of their gods, —so the people did eat, and did bow themselves down unto their gods.
Diese luden das Volk zu ihren Götteropfern ein. Da aß das Volk und warf sich vor ihren Göttern nieder.
3 Thus Israel let himself be bound unto Baal-peor, and the anger of Yahweh kindled upon Israel.
Und Israel paarte sich zu Ehren des Baal Peor. Da ward der Herr über Israel zornig.
4 And Yahweh said unto Moses—Take all the heads of the people, and crucify them unto Yahweh. in the face of the sun, —that the heat of the anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.
Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Nimm dieses Volkes Rädelsführer und setze sie dem Herrn, im Angesicht der Sonne, aus, daß die Zornesglut des Herrn von Israel lasse!"
5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, —Slay ye each one his men, who have let themselves he bound unto Baal-peor.
Da sprach Moses zu den Stämmen Israels: "Töte jeder seine Leute, die sich zu Ehren Baal-Peors gepaart!"
6 And lo! a man of the sons of Israel coming in, who brought near unto his brethren a Midianite woman, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the assembly of the sons of Israel, when they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
Da kam eben ein israelitischer Mann und führte seinen Stammesgenossen eine gewisse Midianiterin zu, unter den Augen des Moses und der ganzen israelitischen Gemeinde, die an ihren Zelttüren ohne Unterlaß weinten.
7 And Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest saw it, so he rose up out of the midst of the assembly, and took a spear in his hand;
Dies sah Eleazars Sohn Pinechas, der Enkel des Priesters Aaron. Da trat er aus der Gemeinde hervor und nahm einen Speer.
8 and went in after the man of Israel into the pleasure-tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman, in her parts of shame, —so the plague was restrained from against the sons of Israel.
Dann ging er dem israelitischen Manne in das innere Gemach nach und durchstach beiden, dem israelitischen Mann und dem Weibe, den Unterleib. Da ward dem Blutbad unter den Israeliten Einhalt getan.
9 Then was it found that they who had died by the plague were four and twenty thousand.
Die Zahl der im Blutbad Gefallenen betrug 24.000.
10 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses saying:
Da sprach der Herr zu Moses also:
11 Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, hath turned back my wrath from against the sons of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy, in their midst, so that I made not an end of the sons of Israel. in my jealousy.
"Pinechas, der Sohn des Eleazar, des Priesters Aaron Enkel, hat von den Israeliten meinen Grimm gewendet, mit meinem Eifer unter ihnen eifernd. Und so habe ich die Israeliten nicht in meinem Eifer aufgerieben.
12 Wherefore say, —Behold me! giving unto him my covenant of peace;
Darum künde! Ich nehme ihn nachträglich in meinen Bund auf.
13 so shall it prove to be unto him and unto his seed after him, the covenant of our age-abiding priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and did put a propitiatory-covering over the sons of Israel.
Ihm und seinem Stamme nach ihm soll Priesterrecht für alle Zeit gesichert sein, dafür, daß er für seinen Gott geeifert und den Israeliten Sühne verschafft hat!"
14 Now, the name of the man of Israel that was smitten, who was smitten with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri son of Salu, —prince of an ancestral house of the Simeonites;
Der getötete israelitische Mann aber, der mit der Midianiterin erschlagen worden war, hieß Zimri, der Sohn Salus, des Fürsten einer Familie der Simeoniten.
15 and, the name of the woman who was smitten, the Midianitess, was Cozbi, daughter of Zur, —the head of his kindred, of an ancestral house in Midian, was he.
Und das getötete midianitische Weib hieß Kozbi, die Tochter Surs, des Sippenhäuptlings einer midianitischen Familie.
16 And Yahweh spake unto Moses saying:
Der Herr sprach zu Moses:
17 Besiege the Midianites, —and ye shall smite them:
"Befehdet die Midianiter! Schlagt sie!
18 for, besiegers, were they unto you, with their wiles wherewith they beguiled you, over the matter of Peor, —and over he matter of Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who was smitten in the day of the plague, over the matter of Peor.
Denn sie befehden euch durch ihre Ränke, mit denen sie euch durch Peor umgarnt haben, und durch ihre Schwester Kozbi, diese midianitische Fürstentochter, die am Tage des Blutbades getötet ward, das wegen Peor angerichtet wurde." - Es war nach dem Blutbad.
