Numbers 14
1 Then did all the assembly lift up, and give forth their voice, —and the people wept throughout that night.
அந்தச் சமுதாய மக்கள் அனைவரும் அன்றிரவு சத்தமாய்க் கூக்குரலிட்டு அழுதார்கள்.
2 And all the sons of Israel, murmured against Moses and against Aaron, —and all the assembly said unto them—Oh that we had died in the land of Egypt, Or in this wilderness, oh that we had died!
இஸ்ரயேலர் எல்லோருமே மோசேக்கும் ஆரோனுக்கும் விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்தார்கள். சபையார் அனைவரும் அவர்களிடம், “நாங்கள் எகிப்தில் இறந்திருக்கலாம் அல்லது இந்த பாலைவனத்திலேயே இறந்திருக்கலாமே!
3 Wherefore then is Yahweh bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and little ones, will become a prey! Would it not be well for us to go back towards Egypt?
வாளுக்கு இரையாகும்படி யெகோவா ஏன் எங்களை இந்த நாட்டிற்குக் கொண்டுவருகிறார்? எங்கள் மனைவிகளும், பிள்ளைகளும் அவர்கள் கையில் பிடிபட்டுக் கைதிகளாகப் போகப்போகிறார்களே! அதைவிட நாங்கள் எகிப்து நாட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிப்போவது நலமாயிருக்காதோ?” என்றார்கள்.
4 And they said, one to another, —Let us appoint a head and let us go back towards Egypt.
மேலும், “நாம் நமக்கு ஒரு தலைவனைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டு எகிப்திற்குத் திரும்பிப் போகவேண்டும்” என்றும் அவர்கள் ஒருவரோடொருவர் சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.
5 Then did Moses and Aaron fall upon their faces, —before all the convocation of the assembly of the sons of Israel.
அப்பொழுது மோசேயும், ஆரோனும் அங்கு கூடியிருந்த இஸ்ரயேல் சபைக்கு முன்பாக முகங்குப்புற விழுந்தார்கள்.
6 But, Joshua son of Nun, and Caleb son of Jephunneh, of them who spied out the land, rent their clothes;
நாட்டை ஆராய்ந்து அறியச்சென்றவர்களில் நூனின் மகன் யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் மகன் காலேப்பும் தங்கள் உடைகளைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.
7 and spake unto all the assembly of the sons of Israel, saying, —As for the land through which we passed to spy it out, Good, is the land, exceedingly,
அவர்கள் முழு இஸ்ரயேல் சபையையும் பார்த்து, “நாங்கள் கடந்துசென்று ஆராய்ந்து அறிந்த நாடு மிகமிக நல்ல நாடு.
8 If Yahweh delight in us, then will he bring us into this land, and give it unto us, —A land which doth flow with milk and honey.
யெகோவா எங்களில் பிரியமாயிருந்தால், பாலும் தேனும் வழிந்தோடும் அந்த நாட்டிற்கு எங்களை வழிநடத்தி அதை எங்களுக்குத் தருவார்.
9 Only against Yahweh, do not rebel. Do not, ye, fear the people of the land, For our food, they are, —Their shade hath departed, from over them. And Yahweh is with us, Do not fear them!
நீங்கள் யெகோவாவுக்கு விரோதமாக மட்டும் கலகம் செய்யாதீர்கள். அந்நாட்டு மக்களுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டாம். ஏனெனில், நாங்கள் அவர்களை அழித்துவிடுவோம். அவர்களுடைய பாதுகாப்பு அவர்களைவிட்டுப் போய்விட்டது. யெகோவா எங்களோடிருக்கிறார். நீங்கள் அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டாம்” என்றார்கள்.
10 But when all the assembly bade stone them with stones, the glory of Yahweh, appeared, in the tent of meeting, unto all the sons of Israel.
ஆனால் முழுசபையாரும் அவர்களுக்குக் கல்லெறியவேண்டுமென பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள். அவ்வேளையில் யெகோவாவின் மகிமை சபைக் கூடாரத்தில் எல்லா இஸ்ரயேலருக்கும் முன்பாகத் தோன்றியது.
11 Then said Yahweh unto Moses How long! must this people, despise me? And how long can they not believe in me. in view of all the signs which I have done in their midst?
அப்பொழுது யெகோவா மோசேயிடம், “இம்மக்கள் எவ்வளவு காலத்திற்கு என்னை அவமதித்து நடப்பார்கள்? நான் இத்தனை அற்புத அடையாளங்கள் அவர்கள் மத்தியில் செய்திருக்கும்போது, எவ்வளவு காலத்திற்கு அவர்கள் என்னை விசுவாசிக்க மறுப்பார்கள்?
12 Let me smite them with pestilence, and disinherit them, —And make thee into a nation greater and more mighty than they!
அவர்களை நான் கொள்ளைநோயினால் வாதித்து அழிப்பேன். உன்னையோ அவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் பெரியதும் வல்லமையுள்ளதுமான ஒரு நாடாக்குவேன்” என்றார்.
13 Then said Moses unto Yahweh, —So shall the Egyptians hear, For thou hast brought up. in thy might, this people out of their midst;
அதற்கு மோசே யெகோவாவிடம், “அப்பொழுது எகிப்தியர் இதைக்குறித்து கேள்விப்படுவார்களே! நீர் இந்த மக்களை உம்முடைய வல்லமையினால் எகிப்திலிருந்து இங்கே கொண்டுவந்தீர்.
14 And will tell it unto the inhabitants of this land: They have heard, That, thou, Yahweh, art in the midst of this people, —That eye to eye, is he seen—thou, Yahweh, And thy cloud, is standing over them, And in a pillar of cloud, thou thyself, art going on before them by day, And in a pillar of fire, by night.
எகிப்தியர் நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு அதைப்பற்றிச் சொல்வார்கள். யெகோவாவே, நீர் இந்த மக்கள் மத்தியில் இருக்கிறீர் என்றும், உமது மேகம் அவர்கள்மேல் இருக்கிறதென்றும், அவர்கள் உம்மை நேருக்குநேர் காணும்படி செய்தீர் என்றும், நீரே அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக பகலில் மேகத்தூணாகவும், இரவில் நெருப்புத்தூணாகவும் போகிறீர் என்றும் அவர்கள் ஏற்கெனவே கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.
15 As soon, therefore, as thou hast put to death this people as one man, so soon will the nations who have heard thy fame speak saying:
நீர் இப்பொழுது இம்மக்களை ஒரேயடியாகக் கொன்றுபோடுவீரானால், உம்மைப் பற்றிய விவரத்தைக் கேள்விப்பட்ட பிறநாடுகள்,
16 Because Yahweh, was not able, to bring in this people into the land which he had sworn unto them, therefore did he slay them in the desert.
‘தாம் ஆணையிட்டு வாக்குக்கொடுத்த நாட்டிற்குள் இந்த மக்களைக் கொண்டுவர யெகோவாவினால் முடியவில்லை. அதனால் அவர்களை பாலைவனத்திலேயே கொன்றுபோட்டார்’ என்பார்களே” என்றான்.
17 Now, therefore, I beseech thee let the might of My Lord, be magnified, —according as thou didst speak saying:
“யெகோவாவே, நீர் அறிவித்திருக்கிற உமது வல்லமையை இப்பொழுதே வெளிப்படுத்திக் காட்டுவீராக:
18 Yahweh—slow to anger and great in lovingkindness, Forgiving iniquity and transgression: Though he will not leave, wholly unpunished, Visiting the iniquity of fathers upon sons, Upon a third generation, and upon a fourth.
‘யெகோவா கோபப்படுவதற்குத் தாமதிக்கிறவர், அன்பினால் நிறைந்தவராய் பாவத்தையும் கலகத்தையும் மன்னிக்கிறவர். ஆனாலும், குற்றவாளிகளைத் தண்டனையின்றி தப்பிப்போக விடாதவர். பெற்றோரின் பாவங்களுக்காக மூன்றாம் நான்காம் தலைமுறைவரைக்கும் பிள்ளைகளைத் தண்டிக்கிறவர்’ என்று அறிவித்திருக்கிறீரே.
19 Pardon I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people, According to the greatness of thy lovingkindness, —And according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even thus far.
உமது மிகுந்த அன்பின்படியே, எகிப்திலிருந்து வந்தகாலம் தொடங்கி இன்றுவரை அவர்களை மன்னித்ததுபோல், இம்மக்களின் பாவத்தையும் இப்பொழுதும் மன்னியும்” என்று மன்றாடினான்.
20 And Yahweh said, I have pardoned according to thy word;
அதற்கு யெகோவா, “நீ கேட்டபடியே நான் அவர்களை மன்னித்துவிட்டேன்.
21 Nevertheless as I live, —and that all the earth may be filled with the glory of Yahweh,
ஆனாலும் நான் வாழ்வது நிச்சயம்போலவும், யெகோவாவினுடைய மகிமை பூமியை நிரப்புவது நிச்சயம்போலவும்,
22 Verily, none of the men who have been beholding my glory and my signs, which I have done in Egypt and in the desert, —and have put me to the proof these ten times, and have not hearkened unto my voice,
என் மகிமையையும், எகிப்திலுள்ள பாலைவனத்தில் நான் செய்த அற்புத அடையாளங்களையும் கண்டும், எனக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் என்னை பத்துமுறை சோதித்த எவனும்,
23 shall see the land, which I sware to their fathers, —yea, none of my despisers, shall see it.
அவர்களுடைய முற்பிதாக்களுக்குத் தருவேன் என நான் ஆணையிட்டு வாக்குக்கொடுத்த நாட்டை ஒருபோதும் காணமாட்டான் என்பதும், என்னை அவமதித்து நடந்த எவனும் அதை ஒருபோதும் காணமாட்டான் என்பதும் நிச்சயம்.
24 But my servant Caleb—because there was another spirit with him, and he followed me fully, therefore will I bring him into the land whereinto he entered, and his seed, shall possess it.
ஆனால், என் பணியாளன் காலேப் ஒரு வித்தியாசமான ஆவி உடையவனாயும், தன் முழு இருதயத்தோடும் என்னைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவனாயும் இருப்பதால், அவன் போய்ப் பார்த்த அந்த நாட்டிற்குள் நான் அவனைக் கொண்டுவருவேன். அவனுடைய சந்ததிகளும் அதை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்வார்கள்.
25 Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites, are dwelling in the valley, —to-morrow, turn ye away; and set yourselves forward towards the desert by the way of the Red Sea.
அமலேக்கியரும், கானானியரும் பள்ளத்தாக்குகளில் வாழ்கிறார்கள். அதனால் நீங்கள் நாளைக்குச் செங்கடலுக்குப் போகிற வழியால் திரும்பவும் பாலைவனத்துக்குப் போங்கள்” என்றார்.
26 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:
அத்துடன் யெகோவா மோசேயிடமும் ஆரோனிடமும் சொன்னதாவது:
27 How long, as regardeth this evil assembly, are they to be murmuring against me? The murmuring of the sons of Israel which, they, have been murmuring against me, have I heard,
“இந்த கொடுமையான சமுதாயம் எவ்வளவு காலத்திற்கு எனக்கு விரோதமாக முறுமுறுக்கும்? முறுமுறுக்கும் இந்த இஸ்ரயேலர்களின் முறையீட்டை நான் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன்.
28 Say unto them: As I live, is the oracle of Yahweh: Surely as ye have spoken in mine ears, so, will I do unto you: —
எனவே நீ அவர்களிடம், ‘நான் வாழ்வது நிச்சயம்போலவே, எனக்கு கேட்கும்படி நீங்கள் முறுமுறுத்த அதே காரியங்களை நான் உங்களுக்குச் செய்வேன் என்பது நிச்சயம்’ என அவர்களுக்குச் சொல் என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.
29 In this desert, shall your dead bodies fall And none of you who were numbered in all your counting, from twenty years old and upwards, —who have murmured against me,
இப்பாலைவனத்திலே உங்கள் உடல்கள் விழும். குடிமதிப்பில் கணக்கெடுக்கப்பட்ட இருபது வயதையும், அதற்கு மேற்பட்ட வயதையும் உடையவர்களும், எனக்கு விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்தவர்களுமான நீங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் விழுவீர்கள்.
30 none of you, shall enter into the land, as to which I uplifted my hand to give you an abode therein, —save Caleb son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, son of Nun:
நான் என் கைகளை உயர்த்தி, ஆணையிட்டு, ‘நீங்கள் குடியிருப்பதற்காக வாக்குப்பண்ணிக்கொடுத்த நாட்டிற்குள் எப்புன்னேயின் மகன் காலேப்பையும், நூனின் மகன் யோசுவாவையும் தவிர வேறு எவனும் போவதில்லை’ என்று சொல்கிறேன்.
31 whereas, your little ones, of whom ye said, they should become, a prey, I will bring them in, and they shall acknowledge the land which ye refused.
‘சிறைபிடிக்கப்பட்டுப் போவார்களே’ என நீங்கள் சொன்ன உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளையோ, நீங்கள் புறக்கணித்த நாட்டின் பலனை அனுபவிப்பதற்கு அங்கு கொண்டுவருவேன்.
32 But, your own dead bodies, shall fall in this desert;
ஆனால் உங்களுக்கோவென்றால், உங்கள் உடல்கள் இப்பாலைவனத்திலேயே விழும்.
33 and your sons, shall be shepherds in the desert forty years, and shall bear your unchastities, —until your dead bodies are consumed in the desert.
உங்கள் பிள்ளைகள் உங்கள் உண்மையற்ற தன்மையினால் உங்கள் கடைசி உடல் இப்பாலைவனத்தில் விழும் வரைக்கும், கஷ்டப்பட்டு, நாற்பது வருடங்களுக்கு இங்கு மேய்ப்பர்களாயிருப்பார்கள்.
34 By the number of the days wherein ye spied out the land—forty days, each day for a year, shall they bear your iniquities—forty years, —so shall ye know my opposition.
நீங்கள் நாட்டை ஆராய்ந்த நாற்பது நாட்களிலும் உள்ள ஒவ்வொரு நாளுக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு வருடம் என்ற கணக்கின்படி, நாற்பது வருடங்களுக்கு உங்கள் பாவங்களுக்காக நீங்கள் கஷ்டப்பட்டு, என்னை எதிர்ப்பதால் வரும் விளைவு என்ன என்பதையும் அறிவீர்கள்.
35 I—Yahweh, have spoken, Verily this, will I do to all this evil assembly, who have conspired against me, —In this desert, shall they be consumed And there, shall they die.
யெகோவாவாகிய நானே சொல்லியிருக்கிறேன். எனக்கெதிராக ஒன்றுகூடிய இக்கொடுமையான மனிதர்கள் அனைவருக்குமே நான் நிச்சயமாக இக்காரியங்களைச் செய்வேன். அவர்கள் தங்கள் முடிவை இப்பாலைவனத்திலேயே சந்திப்பார்கள். இங்கேயே அவர்கள் சாவார்கள் என்றும் சொல்” என்றார்.
36 Now as for the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, —who returned and caused all the assembly to murmur against him by giving out a rumour against the land,
எனவே நாட்டை ஆராய்ந்து அறியும்படி மோசேயினால் அனுப்பப்பட்டுத் திரும்பிவந்து, அதைப்பற்றிப் பிழையான செய்தியைப் பரப்பி, அதனால் முழு மக்கள் சமுதாயத்தையும் அவனுக்கு எதிராக முறுமுறுக்கப் பண்ணினவர்களை இறைவன் அடித்தார்.
37 they died—the men who gave out an evil rumour of the land, —by the plague, before Yahweh.
அவ்விதமாய் அந்நாட்டைப் பற்றிய பிழையான செய்தியைப் பரப்பக் காரணமாய் இருந்த இந்த மனிதர்கள் யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாக ஒரு கொள்ளைநோயினால் வாதிக்கப்பட்டு இறந்தார்கள்.
38 But, Joshua son of Nun, and Caleb son of Jephunneh! remained alive—of those men who went to spy out the land.
நாட்டை ஆராய்ந்து அறியச்சென்ற மனிதர்களில் நூனின் மகன் யோசுவா, எப்புன்னேயின் மகன் காலேப் ஆகியோர் மட்டும் உயிர்த்தப்பியிருந்தனர்.
39 And Moses spake these words unto all the sons of Israel, and the people were greatly depressed.
மோசே இதை எல்லா இஸ்ரயேலர்களுக்கும் அறிவித்தபோது, அவர்கள் மனங்கசந்து துக்கித்தார்கள்.
40 So they arose early in the morning, and went up into the top of the mountain, saying, —We are here—therefore will we go up into the place as to which Yahweh hath said that we have sinned.
அதன்பின் அவர்கள் அடுத்தநாள் அதிகாலமே எழுந்து உயரமான மலைநாட்டை நோக்கி ஏறிப்போனார்கள். “நாங்கள் பாவம்செய்தோம். நாங்கள் யெகோவா எங்களுக்குத் தருவதாக வாக்களித்த நாட்டுக்குப் போவோம்” என்றார்கள்.
41 But Moses said, Wherefore is it that, ye, are going beyond the bidding of Yahweh, —since that cannot prosper?
ஆனால் மோசே அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் ஏன் யெகோவாவின் கட்டளையை மீறுகிறீர்கள்? இந்த முயற்சி பலனளிக்காது.
42 Do not go up, For Yahweh is not in your midst, —Lest ye be smitten down before your enemies.
நீங்கள் மேலே ஏறிப்போகவேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் யெகோவா உங்களுடன் இல்லை. நீங்கள் பகைவர்களால் தோற்கடிக்கப்படுவீர்கள்.
43 For, the Amalekites and the Canaanites, are there before you, So shall ye fall by the sword, —For inasmuch as ye have turned back from following Yahweh, Therefore will Yahweh not be with you.
அங்கே அமலேக்கியரும், கானானியரும் உங்களை எதிர்கொள்வார்கள். நீங்கள் யெகோவாவைவிட்டு விலகிச்சென்றதால், யெகோவா உங்களுடன் இருக்கமாட்டார். நீங்கள் வாளால் வெட்டுண்டு விழுவீர்கள்” என்றான்.
44 But they presumptuously ascended into the top of the mountain, —though, neither, the ark of the covenant of Yahweh nor Moses moved out of the midst of the camp.
ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் உயரமான அந்த மலைநாட்டிற்கு துணிச்சலோடு ஏறிப்போனார்கள். மோசேயோ, யெகோவாவின் உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியோ முகாமைவிட்டு நகரவில்லை.
45 So ten the Amalekites and the Canaanites, that dwelt in that mountain, came down, —and smote them and routed them even unto Hormah.
அப்பொழுது மலைநாட்டில் வாழ்ந்த அமலேக்கியரும், கானானியரும் கீழே இறங்கிவந்து அவர்களைத் தாக்கி, ஓர்மாவரைக்கும் முறியடித்தார்கள்.
