Numbers 13
1 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
Yavé habló a Moisés:
2 Send for thee men and let them spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving unto the sons of Israel, —one man each for the tribe of his fathers, shalt thou send, each one a prince among them.
Envía hombres que exploren para ti la tierra de Canaán, la cual doy a los hijos de Israel. Enviarán un varón por cada tribu de sus antepasados, cada cual jefe entre ellos.
3 So then Moses sent them out of the desert of Paran, at the bidding of Yahweh, —all of them, great men, heads of the sons of Israel, were they.
Entonces Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, según la Palabra de Yavé. Todos aquellos varones eran jefes entre los hijos de Israel.
4 And, these, are their names, —Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, son of Zaccur;
Estos eran sus nombres: De la tribu de Rubén, Samúa, hijo de Zacur.
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, son of Hori;
De la tribu de Simeón: Safat, hijo de Horí.
6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, son of Jephunneh;
De la tribu de Judá: Caleb, hijo de Jefone.
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, son of Joseph;
De la tribu de Isacar: Igal, hijo de José.
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea, son of Nun;
De la tribu de Efraín: Oseas, hijo de Nun.
9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, son of Raphu;
De la tribu de Benjamín: Palti, hijo de Rafú.
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, son of Sodi;
De la tribu de Zabulón: Gadiel, hijo de Sodi.
11 Of the tribe of Joseph—of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi son of Susi;
De la tribu de José (de la tribu de Manasés): Gadi, hijo de Susi.
12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, son of Gemalli;
De la tribu de Dan: Amiel, hijo de Gemali.
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, son of Michael;
De la tribu de Aser: Setur, hijo de Micael.
14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, son of Vophsi;
De la tribu de Neftalí: Nahbi, hijo de Vapsi.
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel, son of Machi.
De la tribu de Gad: Geuel, hijo de Maqui.
16 These, are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, —but Moses called Hoshea son of Nun, Joshua.
Estos son los nombres de los varones que Moisés envió a explorar la tierra. Y a Oseas, hijo de Nun, Moisés lo llamó Josué.
17 So Moses sent them, to spy out the land of Canaan, —and said unto them—Go up, here in the South, Yea ye shall go up the mountain;
Moisés los envió a reconocer la tierra de Canaán y les dijo: Suban allí por el Neguev y luego remonten la montaña.
18 And shall see the land, what it is, —And the people that dwell thereupon, Whether they are, strong, or weak, Whether they are, few or many;
Observen cómo es la tierra, al pueblo que la ocupa, si es fuerte o débil, si escaso o numeroso,
19 And what, the land, is, wherein they dwell, Whether it is, good, or, bad, —And the cities within which they dwell, Whether in camps or in strongholds;
cómo es la tierra en la cual él habita, si es buena o mala, cómo son las ciudades en las cuales viven, si abiertas o fortificadas,
20 And what the land is, Whether, fat, or, lean, Whether there is timber therein or is not, Then shall ye pluck up courage and take of the fruit of the land. Now the days, were the days of the first-fruits of grapes.
y cómo es el terreno, si fértil o estéril, si hay árboles en él o no. Esfuércense y tomen del fruto de la tierra. Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.
21 So they went up, and spied out the land, —from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob at the entering in of Hamath.
Subieron y exploraron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, en la entrada a Hamat.
22 Yea they went up in the South and entered as far as Hebron, and there, were Ahiman Sheshai and Talmai descendants of the Anak. Now, Hebron, was built seven years, before Zoan of Egypt.
Remontaron el Neguev y llegaron hasta Hebrón, donde estaban Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, hijos de Anac. (Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes que Zoán, en Egipto.)
23 And they entered as far as the ravine of Eschol, and cut down, from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and bare it on a pole between two, —also of the pomegranates and of the figs.
Llegaron hasta el Valle de Escol. Allí cortaron una rama con un racimo de uvas, el cual llevaron en un palo entre dos. También [cortaron] algunas granadas y algunos higos.
24 That place, was called, The Ravine of Eschol ["Cluster-ravine"]—on account of the cluster, which was cut down from thence by the sons of Israel.
Llamaron aquel lugar el Valle de Escol, a causa del racimo que los hijos de Israel cortaron allí.
25 And they returned from spying out the land, —at the end of forty days.
Regresaron de explorar la tierra al fin de 40 días.
26 So they took their journey, and came in unto Moses and unto Aaron and unto all the assembly of the sons of Israel into the wilderness of Paran, towards Kadesh, —and brought back word—unto them and unto all the assembly, and showed them the fruit of the land.
Emprendieron viaje y llegaron a donde estaban Moisés, Aarón y toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel en Cades, en el desierto de Parán. Dieron cuenta a ellos y a toda la asamblea, y les mostraron el fruto de la tierra.
27 And they recounted unto him, and said, We entered into the land whither thou didst send us, and surely it doth flow with milk and honey, and, this, is the fruit thereof.
Les contaron: Llegamos a la tierra a la cual nos enviaste, y ciertamente fluye leche y miel. ¡Y este es el fruto de ella!
28 Nevertheless surely mighty, are the people that dwell in the land, —and, the cities, walled in, exceeding great, moreover also, the descendants of the Anak, saw we there.
Pero el pueblo que habita en esa tierra es fuerte. Las ciudades están fortificadas y son muy grandes. También vimos allí a los descendientes de Anac.
29 Amalek, dwelleth in the land of the South; And, the Hittite, and the Jebusite and the Amorite, dwell in the mountain And the Canaanite, dwelleth by the sea, and by the side of the Jordan.
Los amalecitas habitan en la tierra del Neguev. El heteo, jebuseo y amorreo habitan en la región montañosa y el cananeo habita junto al mar y en la ribera del Jordán.
30 And Caleb stilled the people unto Moses, —and said unto them—Let us go straight up, and possess it, for we shall, surely prevail, against it.
Entonces Caleb trató de apaciguar al pueblo en la presencia de Moisés, y dijo: ¡De todos modos, debemos subir y tomar posesión de ella, porque ciertamente la conquistaremos!
31 But the men who went up with him said, We cannot go up against the people, —for stronger, are they than we.
Pero los hombres que subieron con él dijeron: No podremos subir contra aquel pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.
32 So they sent forth a rumour of the land which they had spied out, among the sons of Israel, saying, —As touching the land through which we passed to spy it out, it is, land that eateth up them who dwell therein, And all the people that we saw in the midst thereof, were men of great stature.
Difamaron ante los hijos de Israel la tierra que exploraron y dijeron: La tierra que fuimos a explorar es una tierra que devora a sus habitantes. Todo el pueblo que vimos en medio de ella son hombres de gran estatura.
33 And, there, saw we the giants, sons of Anak [descended] of the giants, —And we were in our own eyes, as grass-hoppers, And, so, were we in their eyes.
También vimos allí a los nefileos (los hijos de Anac son parte de los nefileos, raza de gigantes), y nos pareció que éramos como saltamontes. Así éramos ante sus ojos.
