Nehemiah 6
1 And it came to pass, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah and to Geshem the Arabian and to the rest of our enemies, that I had built the wall, and there was left therein no breach, —though, up to that time, the doors, had I not set up in the gates,
Or il arriva que quand Samballat, Tobija, et Guésem Arabe, et le reste de nos ennemis eurent appris que j'avais rebâti la muraille, et qu'il n'y était demeuré aucune brèche, bien que jusqu'à ce temps-là, je n'eusse pas encore mis les battants aux portes;
2 that Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come! and let us meet together in the villages, in the valley of Ono, —But, they, were plotting to do me harm.
Samballat et Guésem envoyèrent vers moi, pour me dire: Viens, et que nous nous trouvions ensemble aux villages qui sont à la campagne d'Ono. Or ils avaient comploté de me faire du mal.
3 So I sent unto them messengers, saying, A great work, am, I, doing, and cannot come down, —wherefore should the work cease whilst I leave it, and come down unto you?
Mais j'envoyai des messagers vers eux, pour leur dire: Je fais un grand ouvrage, et je ne saurais descendre. Pourquoi cesserait l'ouvrage, [comme cela arriverait] lorsque je l'aurais laissé, et que je serais descendu vers vous?
4 Yet they sent unto me, according to this message, four times, —and I replied to them according to this answer.
Et ils me mandèrent la même chose quatre fois; et je leur répondis de même.
5 Then Sanballat sent unto me, according to this message, a fifth time, by his young man, —with an open letter, in his hand:
Alors Samballat envoya vers moi son serviteur, pour me tenir le même discours une cinquième fois; et il avait en sa main une Lettre ouverte;
6 wherein was written—Among the nations, it is reported, and, Gashmu, saith it, that, thou and the Jews, are plotting to rebel, for which cause, thou art building the wall, —and, thou, art to become their king, according to these words.
Dans laquelle il était écrit: On entend dire parmi les nations, et Gasmu le dit, que vous pensez, toi et les Juifs, à vous rebeller, et que c'est pour cela que tu rebâtis la muraille, et que tu t'en vas être le Roi, selon ce qu'on en dit;
7 Moreover also, prophets, hast thou set up to make proclamation concerning thee in Jerusalem, saying, He hath become king in Judah! Now, therefore, will it he reported to the king, according to these words. Now, therefore, come, and let us take counsel together.
Et même que tu as ordonné des Prophètes pour te louer dans Jérusalem, et pour dire: Il est Roi en Judée. Or, maintenant, on fera entendre au Roi ces mêmes choses; viens donc maintenant afin que nous consultions ensemble.
8 Then sent I unto him, saying, Nothing hath been done, according to these words, which thou art saying, —but, out of thine own heart, art thou feigning them.
Et je renvoyai vers lui, pour lui dire: Ce que tu dis n'est point, mais tu l'inventes de toi-même.
9 For, they all, were seeking to put us in fear, saying, Their hands will slacken from the work, and it will not be accomplished. Now, therefore, strengthen thou my hands!
Car eux tous nous épouvantaient, en disant: Leurs mains quitteront le travail, de sorte qu'il ne se fera point. Maintenant donc, [ô Dieu!] renforce mes mains.
10 When, I, came into the house of Shemaiah, son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, he, being shut in, he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, in the midst of the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to slay thee, yea, by night, are they coming to slay thee.
Outre cela, je vins en la maison de Sémahia, fils de Délaja, fils de Méhétabéel, lequel était retenu. Et il me dit: Assemblons-nous en la maison de Dieu, dans le Temple, et fermons les portes du Temple; car ils doivent venir pour te tuer, et ils viendront de nuit pour te tuer.
11 Then said I, Should, such a man as I, flee? Who then, being such as I, would enter the temple to save his life? I will not enter.
Mais je répondis: Un homme tel que moi s'enfuirait-il? Et qui sera l'homme tel que je suis, qui entre au Temple, pour sauver sa vie? Je n'y entrerai point.
12 Then perceived I, that lo! it was, not God, who had sent him, —though, a prophecy, he had spoken concerning me, but, Tobiah and Sanballat, had hired him:
Et voilà, je connus bien que Dieu ne l'avait point envoyé; mais qu'il avait prononcé cette Prophétie contre moi, et que Samballat et Tobija lui donnaient pension,
13 to this end, hired, he was, to the end that I might be afraid and do so, and might sin, —and it might serve them for an evil report, to the end they might bring reproach upon me.
Car il était leur pensionnaire pour m'épouvanter, et pour m'obliger à agir de la sorte, et à commettre cette faute, afin qu'ils eussent quelque mauvaise chose à me reprocher.
14 Have remembrance, O my God, of Tobiah and of Sanballat, according to these their doings, —moreover also, of Noadiah the prophetess, and of the rest of the prophets, who would have put me in fear.
Ô mon Dieu! souviens-toi de Tobija et de Samballat, selon leurs actions; et aussi de Nohadia prophétesse, et du reste des prophètes qui tâchaient de m'épouvanter.
15 So the wall was finished, on the twenty-fifth of Elul, —in fifty-two days.
Néanmoins la muraille fut achevée le vingt-cinquième jour du mois d'Elul, en cinquante-deux jours.
16 And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard, and all the nations that were round about us saw, that they fell greatly in their own eyes, and took knowledge that, from God, had this work been wrought.
Quand donc tous nos ennemis [l]'eurent appris, et que toutes les nations qui [étaient] autour de nous [l]'eurent vu, ils en furent tout consternés en eux-mêmes, et ils connurent que cet ouvrage avait été fait par le secours de notre Dieu.
17 Moreover, in those days, were the nobles of Judah busy with their letters which were going unto Tobiah, —and those of Tobiah were coming unto them;
Mais aussi en ces jours-là les principaux de Juda envoyaient Lettres sur Lettres qui allaient à Tobija; et celles de Tobija venaient à eux.
18 for, many in Judah, had taken an oath to him, because he was in marriage affinity with Shecaniah son of Arah, —and, Jehohanan his son, had taken the daughter of Meshullam, son of Berechiah.
Car il y en avait plusieurs en Judée qui s'étaient liés à lui par serment, à cause qu'il était gendre de Séchania, fils d'Arah, et que Johanan, son fils avait pris la fille de Mésullam fils de Bérecia.
19 Moreover, his good deeds, were they telling before me, and, my affairs, were they carrying out to him, —letters, did Tobiah send to put me in fear.
Et même ils racontaient ses bienfaits en ma présence, et lui rapportaient mes discours; et Tobija envoyait des Lettres pour m'épouvanter.
