Nehemiah 13

1 On that day, a portion, was read in the book of Moses, in the ears of the people, —and it was found written therein, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not enter into the convocation of God, unto times age-abiding;

அதே நாளில் மக்கள் கேட்கும்படியாக மோசேயின் புத்தகம் சத்தமாக வாசிக்கப்பட்டது; அதில், எந்த ஒரு அம்மோனியரும் மோவாபியரும் இறைவனுடைய சபைக்குள் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளப்படக் கூடாது என்று எழுதியிருக்கக் காணப்பட்டது.

2 because they met not the sons of Israel, with bread and with water, —but hired against them Balaam, to curse them, although our God turned the curse into a blessing.

ஏனென்றால் அந்த தேசத்தார் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் எகிப்திலிருந்து வந்தபோது, அவர்களை உணவும் தண்ணீரும் கொண்டுவந்து சந்திக்கவில்லை; ஆனால் அவர்களைச் சபிப்பதற்குப் பிலேயாமை கூலிக்கு அமர்த்தினார்கள். எனினும், எங்கள் இறைவன் அந்தச் சாபத்தை ஆசீர்வாதமாக மாற்றிவிட்டார்.

3 So it came to pass, when they had heard the law, —that they separated all the mixed multitude from Israel.

மக்கள் இந்த மோசேயின் சட்டத்தைக் கேட்டபோது, அந்நிய மக்களையெல்லாம் இஸ்ரயேலைவிட்டு வெளியேற்றினார்கள்.

4 Now, before this, Eliashib the priest, who was set over a chamber of the house of God, was allied unto Tobiah;

இதற்கு முன்பு ஆசாரியன் எலியாசீப் எங்கள் இறைவனின் ஆலய களஞ்சியங்களுக்குப் பொறுப்பாயிருந்தான். இவன் தொபியாவின் நெருங்கிய உறவினரான இவன்,

5 so he prepared him a large chamber, where aforetime they used to lay the meal-offering, the frankincense, and the utensils, and the tithe of the corn, the new wine and the oil, in charge of the Levites, and the singers, and the doorkeepers, —and the heave-offerings for the priests.

இது முற்காலத்தில் தானிய காணிக்கைகள், நறுமண தூபம், ஆலய பாத்திரங்கள், அத்துடன் லேவியருக்கும் பாடகருக்கும் வாசல்காப்போருக்கும் கொடுக்கும்படி கட்டளையிடப்பட்ட தானியம், புதிய திராட்சை இரசம், ஒலிவ எண்ணெய் ஆகியவற்றில் பத்தில் ஒரு பாகத்தையும், ஆசாரியருக்குரிய காணிக்கைகளையும் சேமித்து வைப்பதற்கும் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட ஒரு பெரிய அறையை தொபியாவுக்குக் கொடுத்திருந்தான்.

6 But, throughout all this [time], was I not in Jerusalem, —for, in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon, I came unto the king, and, at the end of certain days, obtained I leave of the king;

இந்தச் சம்பவம் நடந்தபோது நான் எருசலேமில் இருக்கவில்லை. ஏனெனில் அர்தசஷ்டா அரசனின் ஆட்சியில் முப்பத்தி இரண்டாம் வருடம் நான் பாபிலோனுக்குத் திரும்பிவிட்டேன். சிறிது காலத்தின்பின் நான் அரசனிடம் அனுமதி பெற்றுக்கொண்டு,

7 and came to Jerusalem, —and had intelligence of the wickedness which Eliashib had committed for Tobiah, in preparing for him a chamber, in the courts of the house of God;

திரும்பி எருசலேமுக்கு வந்தேன். இறைவனுடைய ஆலயத்தின் முற்றத்திலுள்ள ஒரு அறையை எலியாசீப் தொபியாவுக்குக் கொடுத்து செய்திருந்த தீமையான செயலை நான் கண்டுபிடித்தேன்.

8 and it grieved me exceedingly, —and I cast forth all the household utensils of Tobiah, outside of the chamber.

நான் மிகவும் கோபமடைந்து தொபியாவின் வீட்டுப் பொருட்களையெல்லாம் வெளியே எறிந்தேன்.

9 Then commanded I, and they purified the chambers, —and I put back there, the utensils of the house of God, the meal-offering and the frankincense.

அத்துடன் நான் அந்த அறைகளை தூய்மைப்படுத்தும்படி உத்தரவிட்டேன்; இறைவனுடைய ஆலயப் பாத்திரங்களையும், தானிய காணிக்கைகளையும், நறுமண தூபங்களையும் திரும்பவும் அறைக்குள்ளே கொண்டுவந்தேன்.

10 Then came I to know, that, the portions of the Levites, had not been given [them], —so that the Levites and the singers, who had been doing the work, had fled every one to his field.

அதோடு லேவியருக்குரிய பங்குகள் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படாதிருந்ததையும் அறிந்தேன்; இதனால், ஆலய பணிக்குப் பொறுப்பாயிருந்த எல்லா லேவியரும், பாடகர்களும் தங்கள் வயல்களுக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்றுவிட்டதாகவும் அறிந்துகொண்டேன்.

11 Therefore contended I with the deputies, and said, Wherefore is the house of God, forsaken? So I gathered them together, and set them in their place.

நான் அதிகாரிகளைக் கடிந்துகொண்டு, “இறைவனுடைய ஆலயம் இவ்வாறு உதாசீனப்படுத்தப்பட்டது ஏன்?” என்று அவர்களைக் கேட்டேன். அப்பொழுது நான் அவர்களைத் திரும்பவும் ஒன்றாய் அழைத்து, அவர்களுக்குரியதான கடமைகளில் அவர்களை அமர்த்தினேன்.

12 Then, all Judah, brought in the tithe of corn, and new wine, and oil, unto the treasuries;

இதனால் திரும்பவும் யூதர்கள் யாவரும் ஆலயக் களஞ்சிய அறைக்குத் தங்கள் தானியங்கள், புதிய திராட்சை இரசம், ஒலிவ எண்ணெய் ஆகியவற்றின் பத்தில் ஒரு பாகத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

13 and I made treasurers over the treasuries—Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah from among the Levites, and, next unto them, Hanan son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, —for faithful were they accounted, and it was [laid] upon them to distribute unto their brethren.

ஆசாரியனான செலேமியாவையும், வேதபாரகனான சாதோக்கையும், பெதாயா எனப் பெயரிடப்பட்டிருந்த லேவியனையும் களஞ்சிய அறைக்குப் பொறுப்பாக வைத்து, இவர்களுக்கு உதவியாளனாக ஆனானை நியமித்தேன். இவன் மத்தனியாவின் மகனான சக்கூரின் மகன். ஏனெனில் இவர்கள் மிகவும் நம்பிக்கைக்குரியவர்களாகக் கருதப்பட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்கள் சகோதரருடைய தேவைகளைப் பங்கிடுவதற்குப் பொறுப்பாயிருந்தார்கள்.

14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, —and do not wipe out my lovingkindnesses, which I have done for the house of my God, and for those keeping charge thereof.

என் இறைவனே, நான் என் இறைவனுடைய ஆலயத்துக்காகவும், அதன் பணிகளுக்காகவும் உண்மையாய்ச் செய்த எல்லாவற்றையும் நீக்கிப் போடாமல், இதற்காக என்னை நினைத்தருளும்.

15 In those days, saw I in Judah—some treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves and lading asses, moreover also wine, grapes, and figs, and every kind of burden, which they were bringing into Jerusalem on the sabbath day, —so I protested against it, as a day for them to sell provisions.

அந்நாட்களில் யூதா மனிதர் ஒரு ஓய்வுநாளில் திராட்சை ஆலைகளை மிதித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதையும், தானியங்களையும், திராட்சை இரசம், திராட்சைப் பழங்கள், அத்திப்பழங்கள், வேறு பல உற்பத்திப் பொருட்களையும் தங்கள் கழுதைகளில் ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு வருவதையும் கண்டேன். அவர்கள் ஓய்வுநாளில் இவற்றையெல்லாம் எருசலேமுக்குள் கொண்டுவருவதையும் கண்டேன். இவற்றை நான் கண்டபோது அந்த நாளில் உணவுப் பொருட்களை அவர்கள் விற்கக்கூடாதென எச்சரித்தேன்.

16 And, men of Tyre, dwelt therein, who were bringing in fish—and every kind of ware for sale, —and were selling, on the sabbath, to the sons of Judah, and in Jerusalem;

எருசலேமில் வாழ்ந்த தீரு நாட்டு மனிதர் சிலர், மீனையும் வேறுசில வியாபாரப் பொருட்களையும் கொண்டுவந்து யூதாவின் மக்களுக்கு ஓய்வுநாளில் எருசலேமில் விற்றார்கள்.

17 so I contended with the nobles of Judah, —and said unto them, What is this wicked thing which, ye, are doing, and profaning the sabbath day?

அப்பொழுது நான் யூதாவிலிருந்த உயர்குடி மனிதரை நோக்கி, “ஓய்வுநாளைத் தூய்மைக்கேடாக்கும்படி நீங்கள் செய்யும் இந்தச் செயல் என்ன?

18 Was it not, thus, your fathers did, and our God brought upon us all this calamity, and upon this city?—and, ye, would add indignation against Israel, by profaning the sabbath!

உங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் இவ்விதமான செயலைச் செய்ததினால் அல்லவோ இன்று எங்கள்மேலும், எங்கள் நகரத்தின்மேலும் இந்தப் பேரழிவுகளை எங்கள் இறைவன் கொண்டுவந்தார். இப்பொழுது ஓய்வுநாளைத் தூய்மைக்கேடாக்குவதால் இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு எதிராய் கோபத்தை மூட்டுகிறீர்கள்” என்று கடிந்துகொண்டேன்.

19 And it came to pass, when the gates of Jerusalem made a shadow before the sabbath, then gave I word, and they shut the doors, and I gave word, that they should not open them, until after the sabbath, —and, some of my young men, set I near the gates, so that no burden should be brought in, on the sabbath day.

ஓய்வுநாள் தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்னே, வாசலின்மேல் நிழல்படும்போது, எருசலேமிலுள்ள கதவுகள் பூட்டப்பட்டு, ஓய்வுநாள் முடியும்வரை திறக்கப்படக் கூடாதென நான் உத்தரவு கொடுத்தேன். அத்துடன் ஓய்வுநாளில் எந்தவித வியாபாரத்துக்கான பொருளையும் உள்ளே கொண்டுபோக முடியாதபடி வாசல்களில் என்னுடைய மனிதர்களை நிறுத்தினேன்.

20 But the traders and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside Jerusalem once or twice.

அப்படியிருந்தும் ஓரிரு தடவைகள் வர்த்தகர்களும், சில்லறை வியாபாரிகளும், எருசலேமுக்கு வெளியே வந்து இரவைக் கழித்தார்கள்.

21 Therefore I testified against them, and said unto them, Wherefore are ye lodging against the wall? if ye do it again, a hand, will I thrust upon you, —From that time, they came not on the sabbath.

அப்போது நான் அவர்களை எச்சரித்து, “இங்கு வெளியே மதிலின் இரவில் தங்குகிறீர்கள்? இவ்விதமாக இன்னுமொருமுறை செய்தால் நான் உங்களை தண்டிப்பேன்” என்று கூறினேன். அந்த நாளிலிருந்து அவர்கள் ஓய்வுநாளில் அந்தப் பக்கமே வரவில்லை.

22 And I gave word to the Levites, that they should be purifying themselves and coming in, as keepers of the gates, to hallow the sabbath day. This also, remember to me, O my God, and have pity upon me, according to the abundance of thy lovingkindness.

அத்துடன் ஓய்வுநாளின் பரிசுத்தத்தைப் பாதுகாக்கும் பொருட்டு தங்களை முதலில் சுத்தம்பண்ணிய பின்பே, வாசலைக் காவல்காக்க வரவேண்டுமென லேவியருக்கு நான் கட்டளையிட்டேன். இதற்காகவும் என் இறைவனே, என்னை நினைவில்கொண்டு உமது பெரிதான அன்புக்குத் தக்கதாக எனக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டும்.

23 Moreover, in these days, saw I the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, of Moab;

அந்நாட்களில் அஸ்தோத், அம்மோன், மோவாப் ஆகிய மக்கள்கூட்டத்திலுள்ள பெண்களைத் திருமணம் செய்த யூதா மனிதரை நான் கண்டேன்.

24 and, their children, were one-half speaking the language of Ashdod, and understood not how to speak the language of the Jews, —but after the tongue of both people.

அதனால் அவர்கள் பிள்ளைகளின் பாதிப்பேர் அஸ்தோத்தின் மொழியையோ அல்லது அந்த மக்களின் வேறொரு மொழியைத்தவிர யூதமொழியைப் பேச அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை.

25 So I contended with them, and laid a curse upon them, and I smote, from among them, certain men, and pulled out their hair, —and I put them on oath by God, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take of their daughters, for your sons nor for yourselves.

இதனால் நான் அவர்களைக் கடிந்துகொண்டு சாபத்தை அவர்கள்மேல் வருவித்தேன். அவர்களில் ஒரு சிலரை அடித்து, அவர்கள் தலைமயிரையும் பிடுங்கினேன். நான் அவர்களை இறைவனுடைய பெயரில் ஆணையிடும்படி செய்து, “நீங்கள் அவர்களுடைய மகன்களுக்கு உங்கள் மகள்களைத் திருமணம் செய்து கொடுக்கக்கூடாது என்றும், உங்களுக்கோ உங்களுடைய மகன்களுக்கோ அவர்களுடைய மகள்களை திருமணத்திற்கென எடுக்கக்கூடாது என்றும்,

26 Was it not, over these things, that Solomon king of Israel sinned—though, among many nations, there was no king such as he, and he was, beloved by his God, and so God gave him to be king over all Israel, —even him, did foreign women, cause to sin.

இப்படியான திருமணங்களினால் அல்லவா இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் சாலொமோன் பாவம் செய்தான்? அநேக நாடுகளுள் அவனைப்போல ஒரு அரசனும் இருந்ததில்லை. அவனுடைய இறைவன் அவனில் அன்புவைத்து, இஸ்ரயேல் முழுவதற்கும் அவனை அரசனாக்கினார். அப்படியிருந்தும் அந்நிய நாட்டுப் பெண்களால் அவன் பாவத்துக்கு இழுபட்டான்.

27 Unto you, then, shall we hearken, to do all this great wickedness, to act unfaithfully with our God, —by marrying foreign wives?

நீங்கள் அந்நியப் பெண்களைத் திருமணம் செய்வதனால், எங்கள் இறைவனுக்கு உண்மையற்றவர்களாகி இந்தப் பயங்கரமான கொடுமையைச் செய்வதைப்போல் இப்பொழுது நாங்களும் செய்யவேண்டுமோ?” என்றேன்.

28 And, one of the sons of Joiada, son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite, —therefore I chased him from me.

தலைமை ஆசாரியனான எலியாசீப்பின் மகன் யோயதாவின் மகன்களில் ஒருவன் ஓரோனியனான சன்பல்லாத்தின் மருமகனாயிருந்தான். இதனால் அவனை என்னிடத்திலிருந்து வெளியே துரத்திவிட்டேன்.

29 Remember them, O my God, —on account of the Defilings of the Priesthood, and the Covenant of the Priesthood, and of the Levites.

என் இறைவனே, இவர்களை நினைத்துக்கொள்ளும், ஏனெனில் இவர்கள் ஆசாரியப் பணியையும், ஆசாரியருக்கும், லேவியருக்கும் நீர் கொடுத்த உடன்படிக்கைகளையும் கறைப்படுத்திவிட்டார்கள்.

30 So I purified them from everything foreign, —and appointed charges unto the priests and unto the Levites, every one in his work;

இதனால் அந்நியமான எல்லாவற்றிலிருந்தும் ஆசாரியர்களையும், லேவியர்களையும் அவரவர் தன்தன் கடமைகளைச் செய்யும்படி சுத்திகரித்தேன், அவர்கள் கடமைகளை ஒதுக்கிக் கொடுத்தேன்.

31 also for the offering of wood, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good!

அத்துடன் குறிப்பிட்ட வேளையில் காணிக்கை விறகுகளையும், முதற்பலன்களையும் கொடுக்கவும், நான் ஏற்பாடு பண்ணினேன். என் இறைவனே, என்னைத் தயவுடன் நினைத்துக்கொள்ளும்.
