Matthew 28
1 And, late in the week, when it was on the point of dawning into the first of the week, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to view the sepulchre.
Þegar birti að morgni sunnudagsins fóru María Magdalena og María hin út til að líta eftir gröfinni.
2 And lo! a great commotion occurred, —for, a messenger of the Lord, descending out of heaven, and coming near, had rolled away the stone, and was sitting upon it.
Skyndilega varð mikill jarðskjálfti! Engill Drottins kom niður af himni, velti steininum frá grafardyrunum og settist á hann.
3 Now his appearance, was, as lightning, and, his clothing, white as snow;
Andlit engilsins lýsti sem elding og klæði hans voru skínandi björt.
4 and, for fear of him, they who were keeping watch were thrown into a commotion, and became as dead men.
Þegar verðirnir sáu hann skulfu þeir af hræðslu og féllu í yfirlið.
5 But the messenger, answering, said unto the women—Be not, ye, afraid! For I know that, Jesus the crucified, ye are seeking:
Engillinn sagði þá við konurnar: „Verið óhræddar! Ég veit að þið leitið að Jesú hinum krossfesta,
6 He is not here, for he hath arisen, as he said. Come! see the place where he lay;
en hann er ekki hér. Hann er upprisinn eins og hann sagði. Komið og sjáið hvar líkami hans lá.
7 And, quickly going, tell his disciples—He hath arisen from the dead, and lo! he is going before you into Galilee; —There, shall ye yourselves see him: Lo! I have told you.
En flýtið ykkur nú og segið lærisveinunum að hann sé risinn upp frá dauðum og að hann fari á undan þeim til Galíleu, til að hitta þá þar. Þessu átti ég að skila til ykkar.“
8 And, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to bring tidings unto his disciples.
Konurnar urðu óttaslegnar en þó glaðar og þær flýttu sér frá gröfinni til að flytja lærisveinunum skilaboð engilsins.
9 And lo! Jesus, met them, saying—Joy to you! And, they, going forward, held his feet, and worshipped him.
En skyndilega mættu þær Jesú og hann heilsaði þeim! Þær féllu til jarðar frammi fyrir honum, gripu um fætur hans og tilbáðu hann.
10 Then, Jesus saith unto them—Be not afraid! Go your way, bear tidings unto my brethren, that they may depart into Galilee; and, there, shall they themselves see me.
„Verið óhræddar!“sagði hann, „farið og segið bræðrum mínum að halda þegar til Galíleu og þar munu þeir sjá mig.“
11 Now as they were, going, lo! certain of the guard, went into the city and reported unto the High-priests all the things that had come to pass;
Meðan konurnar voru á leið inn í borgina fóru sumir varðmannanna, sem gætt höfðu grafarinnar, til æðstu prestanna og sögðu þeim hvað gerst hafði.
12 and, being gathered together with the Elders and taking counsel, sufficient pieces of silver, gave they unto the soldiers, —
Allir leiðtogar Gyðinga voru kallaðir saman til fundar. Þar var ákveðið að múta vörðunum til að segja að þeir hefðu sofnað, og um miðja nótt hefðu svo lærisveinar Jesú komið og stolið líkinu.
13 saying—Say ye, His disciples, coming, by night, stole him, while we were sleeping;
14 And, if this be reported unto the governor, we, will persuade him, and will make, you, free from care.
„Þið þurfið engu að kvíða, “sögðu leiðtogarnir. „Ef landstjórinn fréttir þetta tölum við máli ykkar við hann og friðum hann.“
15 And, they, taking the pieces of silver, did as they were instructed. And this account was spread abroad among the Jews…until this [very] day.
Verðirnir tóku þá við mútufénu og gerðu eins og þeim hafði vefið sagt. Frásaga þeirra barst út á meðal Gyðinga og er henni jafnvel trúað enn í dag.
16 And, the eleven disciples, went into Galilee, unto the mountain which, Jesus, had appointed them;
Eftir þetta fóru lærisveinarnir ellefu til Galíleu, til fjallsins þar sem Jesús sagðist mundu hitta þá.
17 and, seeing him, they worshipped, but, some, doubted.
Þegar þeir sáu hann þar, tilbáðu þeir hann – þó sumir væru ekki vissir um að þetta væri sjálfur Jesús.
18 And Jesus, coming near, spake unto them, saying—All authority, in heaven and on earth, hath been given unto me;
Síðan ávarpaði hann lærisveinana og sagði: „Allt vald er mér gefið á himni og jörðu.
19 Go ye, therefore, and disciple all the nations, Immersing them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, —
Farið því og gerið allar þjóðir að mínum lærisveinum.
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I myself have commanded you, And lo! I, am, with you, all the days, until the conclusion of the age. (aiōn g165)
Skírið þá í nafni föður, sonar og heilags anda, og kennið þeim að halda allt það sem ég hef boðið ykkur. Takið eftir! Ég er með ykkur alla daga allt til enda veraldarinnar.“ (aiōn g165)
