Matthew 23
1 Then, Jesus spake unto the multitudes and unto his disciples,
Então Jesus falou às multidões e aos seus discípulos,
2 saying—Upon Moses’ seat, have sat down, the Scribes and the Pharisees:
dizendo: Os escribas e os fariseus se sentam sobre o assento de Moisés.
3 All things, therefore, whatsoever they tell you, do and observe, —but, according to their works, do ye not, for they, say, and do not, perform.
Portanto, tudo o que eles vos disserem, fazei e guardai. Mas não façais segundo as suas obras, porque eles dizem e não fazem.
4 But they bind together heavy burdens, and lay upon men’s shoulders, whereas, they, with their finger, are not willing to move them.
Eles amarram cargas pesadas, e as põem sobre os ombros das pessoas; porém eles mesmos nem sequer com o seu dedo as querem mover.
5 But, all their works, they do, to be gazed at, by men, —for they make broad their amulets, and make large their fringes,
E fazem todas as suas obras a fim de serem vistos pelas pessoas: por isso alargam seus filactérios, ) e fazem compridas as franjas.
6 And dearly love the first couch in the chief meals, and the first seats in the synagogues,
Eles amam os primeiros assentos nas ceias, as primeiras cadeiras nas sinagogas,
7 And the salutations in the market-places, and to be called by men, Rabbi.
as saudações nas praças, e serem chamados: “Rabi” pelas pessoas.
8 But, ye, —do not be called Rabbi, —for, one, is your Teacher, and, all ye, are brethren;
Mas vós, não sejais chamados Rabi, porque o vosso Mestre é um: e todos vós sois irmãos.
9 And, father, be none of you called, upon the earth, for, one, is your Father, the Heavenly;
E não chameis a ninguém na terra vosso pai; porque o vosso Pai é um: aquele que está nos céus.
10 Neither be called leaders, for, your leader, is one, the Christ;
Nem sejais chamados mestres; porque o vosso mestre é um: o Cristo.
11 And, the greatest of you, shall be to you, a minister;
Porém o maior de vós será vosso servo.
12 And, whoever shall exalt himself, shall be, abased, and, whoever shall abase himself, shall be, exalted,
E o que a si mesmo se exaltar será humilhado; e o que a si mesmo se humilhar será exaltado.
13 But alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because ye are locking up the kingdom of the heavens before men, —for, ye, are not entering, neither, them who are entering, suffer ye to enter.
Mas ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! Porque fechais o Reino dos céus em frente das pessoas; pois nem vós entrais, nem permitis a entrada do que estão para entrar.
15 Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: because ye compass sea and dry land, to make one convert—and, when it is done, ye make him a son of gehenna, twofold more than ye. (Geenna g1067)
Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! Porque rodeais o mar e a terra para fazerdes um prosélito; e quando é feito, vós o tornais filho do inferno duas vezes mais que a vós. (Geenna g1067)
16 Alas for you, blind guides! that say—Whosoever shall swear by the Temple, it is, nothing, but, whosoever shall swear by the gold of the Temple, is bound:
Ai de vós, guias cegos, que dizeis: “Qualquer um que jurar pelo templo, nada é; mas qualquer um que jurar pelo ouro do templo, devedor é”.
17 Foolish and blind! for which is, greater, The gold, or the Temple that hath hallowed the gold?
Tolos e cegos! Pois qual é maior: o ouro, ou o templo que santificou o ouro?
18 And, whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is, nothing, but, whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, is bound:
Também [dizeis]: “Qualquer um que jurar pelo altar, nada é; mas quem jurar pela oferta que [está] sobre ele, devedor é”.
19 Blind! for which is greater, The gift, or the altar that halloweth the gift?
Cegos! Pois qual é maior: a oferta, ou o altar que santifica a oferta?
20 He therefore that hath sworn by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all that is upon it;
Portanto, quem jurar pelo altar, jura por ele, e por tudo o que está sobre ele.
21 And, he that hath sworn by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him who dwelleth therein;
E quem jurar pelo templo, jura por ele, e por aquele que nele habita.
22 And, he that hath sworn by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him who sitteth thereupon.
E quem jurar pelo Céu, jura pelo trono de Deus, e por aquele que sobre ele está sentado.
23 Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because ye tithe the mint and the anise and the cummin, —and have dismissed the weightier matters of the law—the justice, the mercy, and the faith; whereas, these, it was binding, to do, and, those, not to, dismiss.
Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! Porque dais o dízimo da hortelã, do endro, e do cominho, e desprezais o que é mais importante da Lei: a justiça, a misericórdia, e a fidelidade; estas coisas devem ser feitas, sem se desprezar as outras.
24 Blind guides! Straining out the gnat, but, the camel, swallowing.
Guias cegos, que coais um mosquito, e engolis um camelo!
25 Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, —while, within, they are full of plunder and intemperance.
Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! Porque limpais o exterior do copo ou do prato, mas por dentro estão cheios de extorsão e cobiça.
26 Blind Pharisee! cleanse, first, the inside, of the cup [and of the dish], that, the outside thereof, may become, clean.
Fariseu cego! Limpa primeiro o interior do copo, para que também o exterior deles fique limpo.
27 Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because ye make yourselves like sepulchres whitewashed, which, outside, indeed, appear, beautiful, but, within, are full, of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness, —
Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! Porque sois semelhantes aos sepulcros caiados, que por fora realmente parecem belos, mas por dentro estão cheios de ossos de cadáveres, e de toda imundícia.
28 Thus, ye also, outside, indeed, appear to men, righteous, but, within, are full, of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Assim também vós, por fora, realmente pareceis justos às pessoas, mas por dentro estais cheios de hipocrisia e de injustiça.
29 Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and adorn the monuments of the righteous,
Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! Porque edificais os sepulcros dos profetas, adornais os monumentos dos justos,
30 and say—If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been their partners in the blood of the prophets:
e dizeis: “Se estivéssemos nos dias dos nossos pais, nunca teríamos sido cúmplices deles quando derramaram o sangue dos profetas”.
31 So that ye bear witness against yourselves, that ye are, sons, of them who murdered the prophets.
Assim vós mesmos dais testemunho de que sois filhos dos que mataram os profetas.
32 And, ye, fill ye up the measure of your fathers!
Completai, pois, a medida de vossos pais.
Serpentes, ninhada de víboras! Como escapareis da condenação do inferno? (Geenna g1067)
34 For this cause, lo! I, send unto you, prophets and wise men and scribes, —some from among them, ye will slay and crucify, And some from among them ye will—scourge in your synagogues, and pursue from city to city:
Por isso, eis que eu vos envio profetas, sábios, e escribas; a uns deles matareis e crucificareis, e a [outros] deles açoitareis em vossas sinagogas, e perseguireis de cidade em cidade;
35 That there may come upon you—all righteous blood poured out upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, unto the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye murdered between the Temple and the altar.
para que venha sobre vós todo o sangue justo que foi derramado sobre a terra, desde o sangue do justo Abel, até o sangue de Zacarias, filho de Baraquias, ao qual matastes entre o templo e o altar.
36 Verily, I say unto you—All these things, will have come, upon this generation.
Em verdade vos digo que tudo isto virá sobre esta geração.
37 Jerusalem! Jerusalem! that slayeth the prophets, and stoneth them that have been sent unto her, —how often, would I have gathered thy children, like as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, —and ye would not!
Jerusalém, Jerusalém, que matas os profetas, e apedrejas os que te são enviados! Quantas vezes eu quis ajuntar os teus filhos, como a galinha ajunta os seus pintos debaixo das asas; porém não quisestes!
38 Lo! your house is left to you;
Eis que vossa casa vos será deixada.
39 For I say unto you—in no wise, may ye see me, henceforth, until ye say, Blessed, is he that cometh, in the name of the Lord!
Pois eu vos digo que a partir de agora não me vereis, até que digais: “Bendito aquele que vem no nome do Senhor”.
