Luke 9
1 And, calling together the twelve, he gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to be curing, diseases;
Jesús reunió a sus doce discípulos. Y les dio poder y autoridad sobre todos los demonios, y el poder para sanar enfermedades.
2 and sent them forth, to be proclaiming the kingdom of God, and to be healing;
Entonces los envió para que proclamaran el reino de Dios y para que sanaran a los enfermos.
3 and said unto them—Nothing, take ye for the journey, —neither staff, nor satchel, nor bread, nor silver, nor to have, two tunics.
“No lleven nada para el viaje”, les dijo. “No lleven bastón, no lleven bolsas, no lleven pan, no lleven dinero, ni siquiera ropa adicional.
4 And, into whatsoever house ye enter, there, abide, and, thence, be going forth.
Cualquier casa en la que entren, quédense allí, y cuando deban irse, váyanse de allí.
5 And, as many soever as shall not welcome you, in going forth from that city, the dust of your feet, shake ye off, for a witness against them.
Si la gente se niega a aceptarlos, sacudan el polvo de sus pies cuando abandonen la ciudad como una advertencia contra ellos”.
6 And they went forth, and were passing through, along the villages, —delivering the glad-message, and effecting cures in every direction.
Entonces ellos partieron y se fueron a las aldeas, anunciando la buena noticia y sanando por dondequiera que iban.
7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all the things which were coming to pass, and was utterly at a loss, because of its being said, by some, that, John, had been raised from the dead;
Herodes el tetrarca había oído sobre todas las cosas que estaban pasando, y estaba muy perplejo. Algunos decían que Juan se había levantado de entre los muertos;
8 and, by some, that, Elijah, had appeared; and, by others, that, some prophet of the ancients, had arisen.
otros decían que había aparecido Elías; y también había otros que decían que uno de los antiguos profetas había vuelto a vivir.
9 But Herod said—John, I myself, beheaded; but, who is this, concerning whom I am hearing such things as these? And he was seeking to see him.
Herodes dijo: “No hay duda de que yo decapité a Juan. ¿Quién es este hombre, entonces? Estoy oyendo todas estas cosas de él”. Y Herodes trataba de buscar una manera de conocer a Jesús.
10 And the Apostles, returning, related to him what great things they had done. And, taking them aside, he retired privately, into a city called Bethsaida.
Cuando los apóstoles regresaron, le informaron a Jesús lo que habían hecho. Entonces él se fue con ellos y se dirigieron a una ciudad llamada Betsaida.
11 But, the multitudes, getting to know, followed him; and, giving them welcome, he began speaking unto them concerning the kingdom of God, —and, them that had need of cure, he healed,
Sin embargo, las multitudes lo encontraron cuando se iba y lo siguieron. Él los recibió y les explicó el reino de Dios, y sanó a todos los que necesitaban ser sanados.
12 And, the day, began to decline; and the twelve, coming near, said to him—Dismiss the multitude, that, going into the surrounding villages and hamlets, they may lodge, and find provisions; because, here, in a desert place, are we.
Siendo más tarde ese día, los doce discípulos vinieron donde él estaba y le dijeron: “Debes despedir ahora a la multitud para que puedan ir a las aldeas y encuentren un lugar donde quedarse y alimento para comer, pues estamos alejados de todo aquí”.
13 But he said unto them—Give, ye, them to eat. They, however, said—We have not more than five loaves, and two fishes, —unless perhaps, we, should go, and buy food, for all this people.
“¡Dénles ustedes de comer!” dijo Jesús. “Lo único que tenemos son cinco panes y dos peces, a menos que quieras que vayamos y compremos alimento para todos”, dijeron ellos.
14 For there were about five thousand men. And he said unto his disciples—Make them recline, in companies of about fifty each.
Y había aproximadamente cinco mil hombres allí. “Siéntenlos en grupos de aproximadamente cincuenta personas”, dijo a sus discípulos.
15 And they did so, —and made, one and all, recline.
Los discípulos lo hicieron y todos se sentaron.
16 And, taking the five loaves, and the two fishes, looking up into heaven, he blessed them, and brake [them] up, and went on giving to the disciples, to set before the multitude;
Entonces Jesús tomó los cinco panes y los dos peces, y alzando su vista al cielo, bendijo el alimento y lo partió en pedazos. Y continuó entregando el alimento a los discípulos para que lo compartieran con la gente.
17 and they did all eat and were filled. And that which remained over to them, was taken up, —of broken pieces, twelve baskets.
Todos comieron hasta que quedaron saciados, y luego se recogieron doce canastas con lo que quedó.
18 And, it came to pass, when he was praying in solitude, the disciples, were with him. And he questioned them, saying—Who do the multitudes say that I am?
En otra ocasión, cuando Jesús estaba orando en privado solamente con sus discípulos, les preguntó: “Toda esta multitud de personas, ¿quién dicen que soy?”
19 And they, answering, said John the Immerser; But some, Elijah, and others, that, some prophet of the ancients, hath arisen.
“Algunos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista, otros dicen que Elías, y todavía otros dicen que eres uno de los antiguos profetas que resucitó de entre los muertos”, respondieron ellos.
20 And he said to them—But who say, ye, that I am? And, Peter, answering, said—The Christ of God!
“¿Y ustedes?” preguntó él. “¿Quién dicen ustedes que soy yo?” “El Mesías de Dios”, respondió Pedro.
21 He, however, sternly admonishing them, gave charge that, unto no one, should they be telling this;
Entonces Jesús les dio instrucciones estrictas de no contarle a nadie sobre ello.
22 saying—The Son of Man must needs suffer, many things, and be rejected by the Elders and High priests and Scribes, and be slain, —and, on the third day, arise.
“El Hijo del hombre tendrá que experimentar horribles sufrimientos”, dijo. “Será rechazado por los ancianos, por los jefes de los sacerdotes, y por los maestros religiosos. Lo matarán, pero el tercer día se levantará de nuevo”.
23 And he was saying, unto all—If any one intendeth after me to come, Let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, —and be following me.
“Si alguno de ustedes quiere seguirme debe negarse así mismo, tomar su cruz diariamente, y seguirme”, les dijo Jesús a todos ellos.
24 For, whosoever intendeth, his life, to save, shall lose it; but, whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same, shall save it?
“Porque si ustedes quieren salvar sus vidas, la perderán; y si pierden su vida por mi causa, la salvarán.
25 For what doth a man profit, who hath gained the whole world, but hath lost, or been made to forfeit, himself?
¿Qué valor tiene que ganen el mundo entero si al final terminan perdidos o destruidos?
26 For, whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him, the Son of Man, will be ashamed, whensoever he shall come in his glory, and that of the Father, and of the holy messengers.
Si ustedes se avergüenzan de mí y de mi mensaje, el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de ustedes cuando venga en su gloria, y en la gloria del Padre, junto a los santos ángeles.
27 But I tell you of a truth—There, are, some of those, here, standing, who shall in nowise taste of death, until they see the kingdom of God.
Les digo la verdad, algunos de los que están aquí no probarán la muerte hasta que vean el reino de Dios”.
28 And it came to pass, after these words, about eight days, taking with him Peter and John and James, he went up into the mountain to pray.
Aproximadamente ocho días después de haberles dicho esto, Jesús llevó consigo a Pedro, Juan y Santiago y subió a una montaña para orar.
29 And it came to pass, while he was praying, that, the appearance of his face, was changed, and, his clothing, became white, effulgent.
Mientras oraba, la apariencia de su rostro cambió, y su ropa se volvió blanca, tanto que deslumbraba a la vista.
30 And lo! two men, were conversing with him, who, indeed, were Moses and Elijah, —
Entonces aparecieron dos hombres rodeados de una gloria brillante. Eran Moisés y Elías, y comenzaron a hablar con Jesús.
31 who, appearing in glory, were speaking as to his departure, which he was about to fulfil in Jerusalem.
Hablaban de su muerte, la cual ocurriría en Jerusalén.
32 Now, Peter, and they who were with him, had become heavy with sleep; but, waking up, they saw his glory, and the two men who were standing with him.
Pedro y los otros dos discípulos estaban dormidos. Cuando se despertaron vieron a Jesús en su gloria, y a los dos hombres que estaban de pie junto a él.
33 And it came to pass, when they were being parted from him, Peter said unto Jesus—Master! it is, delightful, for us to be, here: Let us, therefore, make three tents, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah: —not knowing what he said.
Cuando los dos hombres estaban a punto de marcharse, Pedro le dijo a Jesús, “Maestro, es grandioso estar aquí. Hagamos unos refugios: uno para ti, uno para Moisés, y uno para Elías”. Pero Pedro en realidad no sabía lo que estaba diciendo.
34 Now, while he was saying these things, there came a cloud, and it began to overshadow them, —and they were overcome with fear as they entered into the cloud.
Mientras aún hablaba, vino una nube y los cubrió. Y ellos estaban aterrorizados mientras la nube los cubría.
35 And, a voice, came out of the cloud, saying—This, is my Son, the Chosen One: Unto him, be hearkening.
Y una voz habló desde la nube, diciendo: “Este es mi Hijo, el Escogido. ¡Escúchenlo a él!”
36 And, when the voice came, there was found, Jesus alone. And they held their peace, and, unto no one, reported they, in those days, any of the things which they had seen.
Y cuando la voz terminó de hablar, Jesús estaba solo. Ellos se guardaron esto, y no le contaron a nadie en ese momento sobre lo que habían visto.
37 And it came to pass, on the next day, when they came down from the mountain, that there met him a great multitude.
Al día siguiente, cuando ya habían descendido de la montaña, una gran multitud estaba esperando para ver a Jesús.
38 And lo! a man from the multitude, uttered a cry, saying—Teacher! I beg of thee, to look upon my son, because, my only begotten, he is.
Y un hombre que estaba entre la multitud gritó: “Maestro, por favor, mira a mi hijo. Es mi único hijo.
39 And lo! a spirit, taketh him, and, suddenly, he crieth out, —and it convulseth him—with foaming, and with difficulty departeth from him, sorely bruising him.
Pero un espíritu toma posesión de él y comienza a gritar, haciéndolo convulsionar y botar espuma por la boca. Casi nunca lo deja en paz y le causa mucho sufrimiento.
40 And I begged of thy disciples, that they would cast it out, and they could not.
Le rogué a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran, pero no pudieron hacerlo”.
41 And, making answer, Jesus said—O faithless and perverted generation! how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? Bring, hither, thy son.
“¡Qué pueblo tan incrédulo y corrupto son ustedes! ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que estar aquí con ustedes y soportarlos?” dijo Jesús. “Trae aquí a tu hijo”.
42 And, while yet he was coming, the demon tare him, and mangled him. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.
Incluso cuando el niño se aproximaba, el demonio lo hizo convulsionar, lanzándolo al suelo. Pero Jesús intervino, reprendiendo al espíritu maligno y sanando al niño, y luego lo entregó de vuelta a su padre.
43 And they were all being struck with astonishment, at the majesty of God. And, while all were marvelling at all things which he was doing, he said unto his disciples:
Todos estaban asombrados por esta demostración del poder de Dios. Sin embargo, aunque todos estaban impresionados por todo lo que él hacía, Jesús les advirtió a sus discípulos:
44 Lay, ye, up in your ears, these words; for, the Son of Man, is about to be delivered up, into the hands of men.
“Escuchen con atención lo que les digo: el Hijo del hombre está a punto de ser entregado en manos de hombres”.
45 But, they, understood not this saying, and it had become veiled from them, that they might not grasp it, —and they were afraid to question him, concerning this saying.
Pero ellos no entendian lo que queria decir. Su significado estaba oculto para ellos para que no comprendieran las implicaciones, y ellos tenían miedo de preguntar al respecto.
46 But there entered a reasoning among them, as to who of them should be greatest.
Entonces comenzó un debate entre los discípulos sobre quién de ellos era el más importante.
47 And, Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their heart, taking a child, placed it near himself, —
Pero Jesús, sabiendo la razón por la que discutían, tomó un niño pequeño y lo colocó a su lado.
48 and said unto them—Whosoever shall give welcome unto this child, on my name, unto me, giveth welcome; and, whosoever, unto me, giveth welcome, giveth welcome unto him that sent me forth. For, he who is least among you all, the same, is, great.
Entonces les dijo: “Todo aquél que acepta a este niño en mi nombre, me acepta a mí, y todo aquél que me acepta a mí, acepta al que me envió. El menos importante entre todos ustedes es el más importante”.
49 But John, answering, said—Master! we saw some one, in thy name, casting out demons, —and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us.
Juan levantó la voz, diciendo: “Maestro, vimos a alguien expulsando demonios en tu nombre y tratamos de detenerlo porque no era uno de nosotros”.
50 And Jesus said unto him—Do not forbid; for, whosoever is not against you, is, for you.
“No lo detengan”, respondió Jesús. “Todo el que no está contra ustedes, está a favor de ustedes”.
51 And it came to pass, when the days for taking him up were on the point of being fulfilled, even he himself, set, his face, to be journeying unto Jerusalem;
Cuando se acercaba el tiempo de ascender al cielo, Jesús decidió con determinación ir a Jerusalén.
52 and he sent messengers before his face, —and, taking their journey, they entered into a village of Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.
Entonces envió mensajeros para que fueran adelante a una aldea samaritana, para que alistaran las cosas para él.
53 And they welcomed him not, because, his face, was for journeying unto Jerusalem.
Pero la gente no lo recibió porque él iba de camino hacia Jerusalén.
54 And the disciples James and John, seeing it, said—Lord! wilt thou, that we bid fire come down from heaven, and destroy them?
Cuando Santiago y Juan vieron esto, le preguntaron a Jesús: “Maestro, ¿quieres que invoquemos fuego del cielo para quemarlos?”
55 But, turning, he rebuked them.
Pero Jesús se dio vuelta y los reprendió.
56 And they journeyed into a different village.
Entonces siguieron hasta la siguiente aldea.
57 And, as they were journeying on the road, one said unto him—I will follow thee, whithersoever thou shalt depart.
Mientras caminaban, un hombre le dijo a Jesús: “¡Te seguiré a dondequiera que vayas!”
58 And Jesus said unto him—the foxes, have, dens, and, the birds of heaven, nests; but, the Son of Man, hath not where, his head, he may recline.
Entonces Jesús le dijo al hombre: “Las zorras tienen sus guaridas, y las aves silvestres tienen sus nidos, pero el Hijo del hombre ni siquiera tiene un lugar donde recostar su cabeza”.
59 And he said unto another—Be following me! But, he, said—Suffer me, first, to depart, and bury my father.
A otro hombre le dijo: “Sígueme”. Pero el hombre respondió: “Maestro, primero déjame ir y enterrar a mi padre”.
60 And he said unto him—Leave, the dead, to bury their own dead; but, thou, departing, be declaring the kingdom of God.
“Deja que los muertos entierren a sus propios muertos”, le respondió Jesús. “Tú ve y proclama el reino de Dios”.
61 And, yet another, said—I will follow thee, Lord; But, first, suffer me to bid adieu to them that are in my house.
Otro hombre dijo: “¡Señor, yo te seguiré! Pero primero déjame ir a casa y despedirme de mi familia”.
62 But Jesus said [unto him] —No one, laying the hand on a plough and looking unto the things behind, is, fit, for the kingdom of God.
Pero Jesús le dijo: “Ninguna persona que ha empezado a labrar y mira hacia atrás está apto para el reino de Dios”.
