Luke 11
1 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain place praying, as he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him—Lord! teach us to pray, as, John also, taught his disciples.
Comme il achevait de prier dans un certain lieu, un de ses disciples lui dit: « Seigneur, apprends-nous à prier, comme Jean l'a aussi enseigné à ses disciples. »
2 And he said unto them—Whensoever ye are praying, say—Father! Hallowed be thy name, Come may thy kingdom,
Il leur dit: « Lorsque vous priez, dites, « Notre Père qui est aux cieux, que votre nom soit gardé saint. Que ton règne vienne. Que votre volonté soit faite sur la terre, comme au ciel.
3 Our needful bread, be giving us, day by day;
Donne-nous jour après jour notre pain quotidien.
4 And forgive us our sins, for, even we ourselves, forgive every one indebted to us; And bring us not into temptation.
Pardonnez-nous nos péchés, car nous aussi, nous pardonnons à tous ceux qui nous sont redevables. Ne nous soumets pas à la tentation, mais délivre-nous du malin. »
5 And he said unto them—Who from among you, shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him—Friend! supply me with three loaves,
Il leur dit: « Lequel d'entre vous, s'il va à minuit chez un ami et lui dit: « Ami, prête-moi trois pains,
6 forasmuch as, a friend of mine, hath come off a journey unto me, and I have not what I can set before him;
car un de mes amis est venu me voir au retour d'un voyage, et je n'ai rien à lui présenter,
7 and, he, from within, shall answer, and say—Be not disturbing me, —already, the door hath been fastened, and, my children, with me, are, in bed: I cannot rise and give thee?
et celui du dedans répondra: « Ne me dérange pas. La porte est maintenant fermée, et mes enfants sont couchés avec moi. Je ne peux pas me lever et te le donner »?
8 I say unto you—Even though he will not give him, rising because of his being a friend of his, because, at least, of his importunity, he will rouse himself, and give him as many as he needeth.
Je vous le dis, même s'il ne se lèvera pas pour le lui donner parce qu'il est son ami, il se lèvera, à cause de son obstination, et lui en donnera autant qu'il en a besoin.
9 I, therefore, unto you, say—Be asking, and it shall be given to you, Be seeking, and ye shall find, —Be knocking, and it shall be opened unto you.
« Je vous le dis, continuez à demander, et l'on vous donnera. Cherchez toujours, et vous trouverez. Continuez à frapper, et l'on vous ouvrira.
10 For, whosoever asketh, receiveth, and, he that seeketh, findeth, —and, to him that knocketh, shall it be opened.
Car quiconque demande reçoit. Celui qui cherche trouve. A celui qui frappe, on ouvre.
11 But which is the father, from among yourselves, whom the son will ask for, a fish, who, instead of a fish, will give him, a serpent?
« Lequel d'entre vous, pères, si son fils demande du pain, lui donnera une pierre? Ou s'il demande un poisson, ne lui donnera-t-il pas un serpent au lieu d'un poisson?
12 Or shall also ask, an egg, who will give him, a scorpion?
Ou s'il demande un œuf, il ne lui donnera pas un scorpion, n'est-ce pas?
13 If therefore, ye, being, evil, know how to be giving, good gifts, unto your children, how much rather, will, the heavenly Father, give Holy Spirit unto them that ask him!
Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, à combien plus forte raison votre Père céleste donnera-t-il le Saint-Esprit à ceux qui le lui demandent. »
14 And he was casting out a demon that was dumb; and it came to pass, when the demon went out, the dumb began speaking. And the multitudes marvelled;
Il chassait un démon, et cet homme était muet. Quand le démon fut sorti, le muet parla, et la foule fut dans l'étonnement.
15 but, some from among them, said—In Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons, is he casting out the demons;
Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux disaient: « Il chasse les démons par Béelzébul, le prince des démons. »
16 and, others, putting him to the test, a sign out of heaven, were seeking from him.
D'autres, l'éprouvant, attendaient de lui un signe venant du ciel.
17 But, he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them—Every kingdom, against itself divided, is laid waste, and, a house, against a house, [divided], falleth;
Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: « Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté. Une maison divisée contre elle-même tombe.
18 And, if, even Satan, against himself hath become divided, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye are saying that, in Beelzebul, am I casting out the demons.
Si Satan aussi est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? Car vous dites que c'est par Béelzébul que je chasse les démons.
19 But, if, I, in Beelzebul, am casting out the demons, In whom are, your sons, casting them out? Wherefore, they, shall be, your judges.
Mais si c'est par Béelzébul que je chasse les démons, par qui vos enfants les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ils seront vos juges.
20 But, if, with the finger of God, I, am casting out the demons, then doubtless unawares hath come upon you, the kingdom of God.
Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que je chasse les démons, c'est que le Royaume de Dieu est venu à vous.
21 Whensoever, the mighty one, armed, may be guarding his own dwelling, in peace, are his goods;
« Quand un homme fort, bien armé, garde sa propre demeure, ses biens sont en sécurité.
22 But, whensoever, a mightier than he, shall come upon and vanquish him, his panoply, he taketh away, wherein he was trusting, and, his spoils, he distributeth.
Mais lorsque quelqu'un de plus fort l'attaque et le vainc, il lui enlève toute l'armure dans laquelle il se confiait, et partage son butin.
23 He that is not with me, is, against me; and, he that gathereth not with me, scattereth.
« Celui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi. Celui qui ne s'assemble pas avec moi se disperse.
24 Whensoever, the impure spirit, goeth out from the man, it passeth through waterless places, seeking rest; and, not finding it, [then, ] it saith, I will return unto my house, whence I came out; —
L'esprit impur, lorsqu'il est sorti de l'homme, passe par des lieux arides, cherchant du repos; et n'en trouvant pas, il dit: « Je retournerai dans ma maison d'où je suis sorti.
25 and, coming, findeth it, [empty, ] swept, and adorned.
Quand il revient, il la trouve balayée et rangée.
26 Then, goeth it, and taketh along with itself, other spirits, more wicked than itself—seven, and, entering in, fixeth its dwelling there; and, the last state of that man, becometh, worse than the first.
Alors il s'en va et prend sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui, et ils y entrent et y demeurent. Le dernier état de cet homme devient pire que le premier. »
27 Now it came to pass, while he was saying these things, that a certain woman out of the multitude, lifting up her voice, said unto him—Happy the womb that bare thee! And the breasts which thou didst suck!
Comme il parlait ainsi, une femme de la foule éleva la voix et lui dit: « Heureux le sein qui t'a porté et les mamelles qui t'ont allaité! »
28 But, he, said—Yea rather!—Happy they who hear the word of God, and observe it!
Mais il dit: « Au contraire, heureux ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et la gardent. »
29 And, as the multitudes were thronging together, he began to be saying—This generation, is, a wicked generation: A sign, it is seeking, and, a sign, shall not be given it, save the sign of Jonah.
Comme les foules s'assemblaient autour de lui, il se mit à dire: « Cette génération est mauvaise. Elle cherche un signe. Il ne lui sera donné d'autre signe que le signe de Jonas, le prophète.
30 For, according as, Jonah, became, unto the Ninevites, a sign, so, shall be, the Son of Man also, unto this generation.
Car, de même que Jonas a été un signe pour les Ninivites, de même le Fils de l'homme le sera pour cette génération.
31 The queen of the south, will rise up, in the judgment, with the men of this generation, and will condemn them; because she came out of the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, —and lo! something more than Solomon, here.
La reine du Midi se lèvera au tribunal avec les hommes de cette génération et les condamnera, car elle est venue des extrémités de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon; et voici qu'il y a ici un plus grand que Salomon.
32 Men of Nineveh, will rise up, in the judgment, with this generation, and will condemn it; because they repented into the proclamation of Jonah, —and lo! something more than Jonah, here.
Les hommes de Ninive se lèveront en jugement avec les hommes de cette génération et la condamneront, car ils se sont repentis à la prédication de Jonas; et voici, un plus grand que Jonas est ici.
33 No one, having lighted, a lamp, into a covered place, a putteth it, nor, under the measure; but upon the lampstand, that they who enter may see, the light.
« Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la met dans une cave ou sous un panier, mais sur un support, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.
34 The lamp of thy body, is thine eye: Whensoever, thine eye, may be, single, even the whole of thy body, is, lighted up; but, whensoever it may be, useless, even thy body, is darkened.
La lampe du corps, c'est l'œil. C'est pourquoi, quand ton œil est bon, tout ton corps est aussi plein de lumière; mais quand il est mauvais, ton corps aussi est plein de ténèbres.
35 Be looking to it, therefore, lest, the light that is in thee, be, darkness.
Regarde donc si la lumière qui est en toi n'est pas ténèbres.
36 If, therefore, thy whole body, is lighted up, not having any part darkened, the whole, shall be lighted up, as whensoever, the lamp, with its radiance, may be giving thee light.
Si donc tout ton corps est plein de lumière, n'ayant aucune partie obscure, il sera tout entier plein de lumière, comme lorsque la lampe, par son éclat, t'éclaire. »
37 And, when he had spoken, a Pharisee was requesting him that he would dine with him; and, entering, he reclined.
Comme il parlait, un pharisien lui demanda de dîner avec lui. Il entra et se mit à table.
38 And, the Pharisee, beholding, marvelled that he was not, first, immersed, before the dinner.
Lorsque le pharisien le vit, il s'étonna qu'il ne se soit pas d'abord lavé avant de dîner.
39 And the Lord said unto him: Now, ye, the Pharisees, the outside of the cup and of the tray, do make pure; but, your inward part, is full of plunder and wickedness.
Le Seigneur lui dit: « Vous, les pharisiens, vous nettoyez l'extérieur de la coupe et du plat, mais votre intérieur est plein de rapines et de méchancetés.
40 Simple ones! Did not, he who made the outside, the inside also, make?
Insensés, celui qui a fait le dehors n'a-t-il pas aussi fait le dedans?
41 Notwithstanding, as to the things within, give alms, and lo! everything, is, pure unto you.
Mais donnez aux indigents ce qui est à l'intérieur, et voici, tout sera pur pour vous.
42 But alas for you, the Pharisees! because ye tithe the mint, and the rue, and every garden herb, and pass by justice, and the love of God. But, these things, it was binding to do, and, those, not to pass by.
Mais malheur à vous, pharisiens! Car vous payez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue et de toutes les herbes, mais vous passez outre la justice et l'amour de Dieu. Vous auriez dû faire ces deux choses, et ne pas laisser l'autre en suspens.
43 Alas for you, the Pharisees! because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the market-places!
Malheur à vous, pharisiens! Car vous aimez les meilleures places dans les synagogues et les salutations sur les places de marché.
44 Alas for you! because ye are as the secret tombs: even the men that are walking above them, know it not.
Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens, hypocrites! Car vous êtes comme des sépultures cachées, et les hommes qui marchent dessus ne le savent pas. »
45 And, making answer, one of the Lawyers saith unto him, Teacher! these things, saying, us also, dost thou insult!
L'un des avocats lui répondit: « Maître, en disant cela, tu nous insultes nous aussi. »
46 And, he, said—And, for you, the lawyers, alas! because ye lade men with burdens hard to be borne, and, yourselves, with one of your fingers, touch not the burdens.
Il dit: « Malheur à vous aussi, avocats! Car vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux difficiles à porter, et vous-mêmes ne levez pas le petit doigt pour aider à porter ces fardeaux.
47 Alas for you! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers slew them!
Malheur à vous! Car vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, que vos pères ont tués.
48 Hence, witnesses, are ye, and find consenting pleasure in the works of your fathers: because, they, indeed, slew them, and, ye, are building, [their tombs].
Vous rendez ainsi témoignage et vous consentez aux œuvres de vos pères. Car ils les ont tués, et vous bâtissez leurs tombeaux.
49 For this cause, the Wisdom of God hath said—I will send forth, unto them, prophets and apostles, —and, some from among them, will they slay, and, [some] persecute:
C'est pourquoi la sagesse de Dieu a dit: « Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, et ils tueront et persécuteront quelques-uns d'entre eux,
50 That the blood of all the prophets which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, may be sought out, from this generation, —
afin que le sang de tous les prophètes, qui a été versé dès la fondation du monde, soit exigé de cette génération,
51 From the blood of Abel, unto the blood of Zachariah who was destroyed betwixt the altar and the house; Yea! I say unto you—It shall be sought out from this generation.
depuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, qui a péri entre l'autel et le sanctuaire ». Oui, je vous le dis, il sera exigé de cette génération.
52 Alas for you, the lawyers! because ye took away the key of knowledge: yourselves, entered not, and, them who were entering, ye hindered.
Malheur à vous, avocats! Car vous avez emporté la clé de la connaissance. Vous n'êtes pas entrés vous-mêmes, et ceux qui entraient, vous les avez empêchés. »
53 And, when, from thence, he came out, the Scribes and the Pharisees began, with vehemence, to be hemming him in, and trying to make him speak off-hand concerning many things, —
Comme il leur disait cela, les scribes et les pharisiens commencèrent à s'irriter terriblement, et à tirer de lui beaucoup de choses,
54 lying in wait for him, to catch something out of his mouth.
le guettant et cherchant à le surprendre dans quelque chose qu'il pourrait dire, afin de l'accuser.
