< Judges 1 >
1 And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
Lẹ́yìn ikú Joṣua, ni orílẹ̀-èdè Israẹli béèrè lọ́wọ́ Olúwa pé, “Èwo nínú ẹ̀yà wa ni yóò kọ́kọ́ gòkè lọ bá àwọn ará Kenaani jagun fún wa?”
2 And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.
Olúwa sì dáhùn pé, “Juda ni yóò lọ; nítorí pé èmi ti fi ilẹ̀ náà lé e lọ́wọ́.”
3 Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
Nígbà náà ni àwọn olórí ẹ̀yà Juda béèrè ìrànlọ́wọ́ láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn ọmọ Simeoni arákùnrin wọn pé, “Ẹ wá bá wa gòkè lọ sí ilẹ̀ tí a ti fi fún wa, láti bá àwọn ará Kenaani jà kí a sì lé wọn kúrò, àwa pẹ̀lú yóò sì bá a yín lọ sí ilẹ̀ tiyín bákan náà láti ràn yín lọ́wọ́.” Àwọn ọmọ-ogun Simeoni sì bá àwọn ọmọ-ogun Juda lọ.
4 And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ-ogun Juda sì kọlu wọ́n, Olúwa sì fi àwọn ará Kenaani àti àwọn ará Peresi lé wọn lọ́wọ́, wọ́n sì pa ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́wàá ọkùnrin ní Beseki.
5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
Ní Beseki ni wọ́n ti rí Adoni-Beseki, wọ́n sì bá a jagun, wọ́n sì ṣẹ́gun àwọn ará Kenaani àti Peresi.
6 But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
Ọba Adoni-Beseki sá àsálà, ṣùgbọ́n ogun Israẹli lépa rẹ̀ wọ́n sì bá a, wọ́n sì gé àwọn àtàǹpàkò ọwọ́ àti ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀.
7 Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
Nígbà náà ni Adoni-Beseki wí pé, “Àádọ́rin ọba ni èmi ti gé àtàǹpàkò wọn tí wọ́n sì ń ṣa èérún oúnjẹ jẹ lábẹ́ tábìlì mi. Báyìí Ọlọ́run ti san án fún mi gẹ́gẹ́ bí ohun tí mo ṣe sí wọn.” Wọ́n sì mú un wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kú síbẹ̀.
8 And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.
Àwọn ológun Juda sì ṣẹ́gun Jerusalẹmu, wọ́n sì kó o, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlù ú, wọ́n sì dáná sun ìlú náà.
9 And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
Lẹ́yìn nǹkan wọ̀nyí ni àwọn ogun Juda sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ láti bá àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé ní àwọn ìlú orí òkè ní gúúsù àti ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ òkè lápá ìwọ̀-oòrùn Juda jagun.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Ogun Juda sì tún ṣígun tọ ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Hebroni (tí orúkọ rẹ̀ ń jẹ́ Kiriati-Arba) ó sì ṣẹ́gun Ṣeṣai, Ahimani àti Talmai.
11 And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
Láti ibẹ̀, wọ́n sì wọ́de ogun láti ibẹ̀ lọ bá àwọn ènìyàn tí ń gbé ní Debiri (tí à ń pè ní Kiriati-Seferi nígbà kan rí).
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
Kalebu sì wí pé, “Èmi yóò fi ọmọbìnrin mi Aksa fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá kọlu Kiriati-Seferi, tí ó sì gbà á ní ìgbéyàwó.”
13 Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
Otnieli ọmọ Kenasi, àbúrò Kalebu sì gbà á, báyìí ni Kalebu sì fi ọmọbìnrin rẹ̀ Aksa fún un ní ìyàwó.
14 And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?
Ní ọjọ́ kan, nígbà tí Aksa lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ Otnieli, ó rọ̀ ọ́ kí ó béèrè ilẹ̀ oko lọ́wọ́ baba rẹ̀. Nígbà náà ni Aksa sọ̀kalẹ̀ ní orí kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ rẹ̀, Kalebu sì béèrè pé, “Kí ni kí èmi ṣe fún ọ?”
15 And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
Aksa sì dáhùn pé, “Mo ń fẹ́ kí o ṣe ojúrere kan fún mi, nígbà ti o ti fún mi ní ilẹ̀ ní gúúsù, fún mi ní ìsun omi náà pẹ̀lú.” Kalebu sì fún un ní ìsun òkè àti ìsun ìsàlẹ̀.
16 Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.
Àwọn ìran Keni tí wọ́n jẹ́ àna Mose bá àwọn ọmọ Juda gòkè láti ìlú ọ̀pẹ lọ sí aginjù Juda ní gúúsù Aradi; wọ́n sì lọ, orílẹ̀-èdè méjèèjì sì jùmọ̀ ń gbé pọ̀ láti ìgbà náà.
17 Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
Ó sì ṣe, àwọn ológun Juda tẹ̀lé àwọn ológun Simeoni arákùnrin wọn, wọ́n sì lọ bá àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Sefati jagun, wọ́n sì run ìlú náà pátápátá, ní báyìí àwa yóò pe ìlú náà ní Horma (Horma èyí tí ń jẹ́ ìparun).
18 And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
Àwọn ogun Juda sì ṣẹ́gun Gasa àti àwọn agbègbè rẹ̀, Aṣkeloni àti Ekroni pẹ̀lú àwọn ìlú tí ó yí ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan wọn ká.
19 And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
Olúwa sì wà pẹ̀lú ẹ̀yà Juda, wọ́n gba ilẹ̀ òkè, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò le lé àwọn ènìyàn tí ó wà ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀, nítorí wọ́n ní kẹ̀kẹ́ ogun onírin.
20 So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
Gẹ́gẹ́ bí Mose ti ṣèlérí, wọ́n fún Kalebu ní Hebroni, ó sì lé àwọn tí ń gbé ibẹ̀ kúrò; àwọn náà ni ìran àwọn ọmọ Anaki mẹ́ta.
21 But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
Àwọn ẹ̀yà Benjamini ni wọn kò le lé àwọn Jebusi tí wọ́n ń gbé Jerusalẹmu, nítorí náà wọ́n ń gbé àárín àwọn Israẹli títí di òní.
22 Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.
Àwọn ẹ̀yà Josẹfu sì bá Beteli jagun, Olúwa síwájú pẹ̀lú wọn.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.
Nígbà tí ẹ̀yà Josẹfu rán àwọn ènìyàn láti lọ yọ́ Beteli wò (orúkọ ìlú náà tẹ́lẹ̀ rí ni Lusi).
24 So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
Àwọn ayọ́lẹ̀wò náà rí ọkùnrin kan tí ń jáde láti inú ìlú náà wá, wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Fi ọ̀nà àtiwọ ìlú yìí hàn wá, àwa ó sì dá ẹ̀mí rẹ sí, a ó sì ṣe àánú fún ọ.”
25 And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.
Ó sì fi ọ̀nà ìlú náà hàn wọ́n, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlu ìlú náà, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n dá ọkùnrin náà àti gbogbo ìdílé rẹ̀ si.

27 But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;

33 Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
Àwọn ẹ̀yà Naftali pẹ̀lú kò lé àwọn ará Beti-Ṣemeṣi àti Beti-Anati jáde; ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ẹ̀yà Naftali náà ń gbé àárín àwọn ará Kenaani tí ó ti ní ilẹ̀ náà rí, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn tí ń gbé Beti-Ṣemeṣi àti Beti-Anati ń sìn ìsìn tipátipá.
34 And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
Àwọn ará Amori fi agbára dá àwọn ẹ̀yà Dani dúró sí àwọn ìlú orí òkè, wọn kò sì jẹ́ kí wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá sí pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀.
