Judges 13

1 And the sons of Israel again did the thing that was wicked in the sight of Yahweh, —so Yahweh delivered them up into the hand of the Philistines, forty years.

ইস্রায়েলীরা আবার সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে মন্দ কাজকর্ম করল, তাই সদাপ্রভু চল্লিশ বছরের জন্য ফিলিস্তিনীদের হাতে তাদের সমর্পণ করলেন।

2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, and, his name, was Manoah; and, his wife, was barren, and had borne no child.

দানীয় গোষ্ঠীভুক্ত, সরা নিবাসী মানোহ বলে একজন ব্যক্তির স্ত্রী বন্ধ্যা ছিলেন। তিনি সন্তানের জন্ম দিতে পারেননি।

3 And the messenger of Yahweh appeared unto the woman, —and said unto her—Lo! I pray thee, thou, art barren, and hast borne no child, but thou shalt conceive, and shalt bear a son.

সদাপ্রভুর দূত সেই স্ত্রীকে দর্শন দিয়ে বললেন, “তুমি তো বন্ধ্যা ও সন্তানহীনা, কিন্তু তুমি অন্তঃসত্ত্বা হয়ে এক ছেলের জন্ম দিতে যাচ্ছ।

4 Now, therefore, beware, I pray thee, and do not drink wine or strong drink, —nor eat anything unclean;

এখন দেখো, তুমি যেন দ্রাক্ষারস বা অন্য কোনও গাঁজানো পানীয় পান কোরো না এবং অশুচি কোনো কিছু খেয়ো না।

5 for lo! thou, art about to conceive and bear a son, and no, razor, shall come on his head, for, one separate unto God, shall the boy be from his birth, —and, he, shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

তুমি অন্তঃসত্ত্বা হয়ে এমন এক পুত্রসন্তানের জন্ম দেবে যার মাথায় কখনও ক্ষুর ছোঁয়ানো যাবে না কারণ ছেলেটি হবে একজন নাসরীয়, গর্ভে থাকার সময় থেকেই সে ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে উৎসর্গীকৃত হবে। ফিলিস্তিনীদের হাত থেকে ইস্রায়েলকে রক্ষা করার ক্ষেত্রে সেই নেতৃত্ব দেবে।”

6 So the woman came in, and told her husband, saying, A man of God, came unto me, and, his, appearance, was as the appearance of the messenger of God, reverend exceedingly, —and I asked him not whence he was, and, his name, he told me not.

তখন সেই মহিলাটি তাঁর স্বামীর কাছে গিয়ে তাঁকে বললেন, “ঈশ্বরের একজন লোক আমার কাছে এসেছিলেন। তাঁকে দেখতে লাগছিল ঈশ্বরের এক দূতের মতো, খুবই ভয়ংকর। আমি তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিনি তিনি কোথা থেকে এসেছেন, এবং তিনিও আমাকে তাঁর নাম বলেননি।

7 But he said unto me, Lo! thou art about to conceive, and bear a son, —now, therefore, do not drink wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean, for, one separate unto God, shall the boy be, from his birth until the day of his death.

কিন্তু তিনি আমাকে বললেন, ‘তুমি অন্তঃসত্ত্বা হবে এবং এক পুত্রসন্তানের জন্ম দেবে। তাই এখন থেকে, তুমি দ্রাক্ষারস বা অন্য কোনও গাঁজানো পানীয় পান কোরো না এবং অশুচি কোনো কিছু খেয়ো না, কারণ সেই ছেলেটি গর্ভ থেকে তার মৃত্যুর দিন পর্যন্ত ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে এক নাসরীয় হয়ে থাকবে।’”

8 Then Manoah made entreaty unto Yahweh, and said: Pardon, O My Lord! the man of God whom thou didst send, I pray thee, let him come again unto us, that he may teach us what we are to do, unto the boy that is to be born.

তখন মানোহ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করলেন: “হে প্রভু, আপনার এই দাসকে ক্ষমা করবেন। আমি আপনার কাছে মিনতি করছি, ঈশ্বরের যে লোকটিকে আপনি আমাদের কাছে পাঠিয়েছিলেন, তিনি যেন আবার ফিরে এসে আমাদের শিক্ষা দেন কীভাবে আমরা সেই ছেলেটিকে বড়ো করে তুলব, যার জন্ম হতে চলেছে।”

9 And God hearkened unto the voice of Manoah, —and the messenger of God came again unto the woman, as, she, was sitting in the field, Manoah her husband, not being with her.

ঈশ্বর মানোহের প্রার্থনা শুনলেন, এবং ঈশ্বরের দূত আবার সেই মহিলাটির কাছে এলেন, যখন তিনি ক্ষেতে ছিলেন; কিন্তু তাঁর স্বামী মানোহ তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন না।

10 So the woman made haste, and ran, and told her husband, —and said unto him, Lo! the man, hath appeared unto me, who came the other day unto me.

মহিলাটি দৌড়ে গিয়ে তাঁর স্বামীকে বললেন, “সেদিন যে লোকটি আমাকে দর্শন দিয়েছিলেন, তিনি এখানে এসেছেন!”

11 Then Manoah arose, and followed his wife, —and came unto the man, and said unto him—Art, thou, the man that spake unto the wife? And he said—I am.

মানোহ উঠে তাঁর স্ত্রীকে অনুসরণ করলেন। সেই লোকটির কাছে পৌঁছে তিনি বললেন, “আপনিই কি সেই ব্যক্তি যিনি আমার স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে কথা বলেছিলেন?” “আমিই সেই ব্যক্তি,” তিনি বললেন।

12 And Manoah said, Now, let thy words come to pass, —What shall be the rule for the boy, and his work?

অতএব মানোহ তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনার কথা যখন পূর্ণ হবে, তখন সেই ছেলেটির জীবন ও কর্ম নিয়ন্ত্রণকারী নিয়মটি কী হবে?”

13 And the messenger of Yahweh said unto Manoah, —Of all that I said unto the woman, let her beware.

সদাপ্রভুর দূত তাঁকে উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমার স্ত্রীকে আমি যা যা করতে বলেছি, সে যেন অবশ্যই তা করে।

14 Of nothing that cometh of the vine, may she eat, nor wine nor strong drink, let her drink, nor, anything unclean, let her eat, —all that I commanded her, let her observe.

সে যেন এমন কিছু না খায় যা দ্রাক্ষালতা থেকে উৎপন্ন, অথবা যেন দ্রাক্ষারস বা গাঁজানো অন্য কোনও পানীয় পান না করে বা অশুচি কোনো কিছু না খায়। আমি তাকে যেসব আদেশ দিয়েছি, সে যেন অবশ্যই তা পালন করে।”

15 And Manoah said unto the messenger of Yahweh, —I pray thee, let us detain thee, that we may make ready for thy presence, a kid.

মানোহ সদাপ্রভুর দূতকে বললেন, “আমরা চাই আপনি ততক্ষণ অপেক্ষা করুন, যতক্ষণ না আমরা আপনার জন্য একটি কচি পাঁঠার মাংস রান্না করে আনছি।”

16 But the messenger of Yahweh said unto Manoah—Though thou detain me, yet will I not eat of thy food, and, though thou make ready an ascending-sacrifice, unto Yahweh, must thou cause it to ascend. For Manoah had not discerned that, the angel of Yahweh, he was.

সদাপ্রভুর দূত উত্তর দিলেন, “তুমি আমাকে অপেক্ষা করালেও, আমি তোমার আনা কোনও খাবার খাব না। কিন্তু তুমি যদি হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করো, তবে তা সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশেই করো।” (মানোহ বুঝতে পারেননি যে তিনি সদাপ্রভুর দূত।)

17 Then said Manoah unto the messenger of Yahweh, What is thy name, —that, when thy word cometh to pass, we may do thee honour?

পরে মানোহ সদাপ্রভুর দূতের কাছে জানতে চাইলেন, “আপনার নাম কী, যেন আপনার কথা যখন পূর্ণ হবে, তখন আমরা আপনাকে সম্মান জানাতে পারি?”

18 And the messenger of Yahweh said unto him, Wherefore is it, that thou shouldst ask after my name, —seeing that, it, is Wonderful?

তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “আমার নাম জিজ্ঞাসা করছ কেন? তা তোমার বোধের অগম্য।”

19 So Manoah took the kid, and the meal-offering, and caused them to ascend upon the rock unto Yahweh, who was about to do, wondrously, while Manoah and his wife were looking on.

তখন মানোহ একটি কচি পাঁঠা নিলেন ও সঙ্গে নিলেন শস্য-নৈবেদ্য, এবং সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে তা একটি পাষাণ-পাথরের উপরে উৎসর্গ করলেন। আর মানোহ ও তাঁর স্ত্রীর চোখের সামনেই সদাপ্রভু এক বিস্ময়কর ঘটনা ঘটালেন:

20 And it came to pass, when the flame ascended from off the altar, towards the heavens, that the messenger of Yahweh ascended in the flame of the altar, —while Manoah and his wife were looking on. Then fell they on their faces, to the earth.

বেদি থেকে যখন আগুনের শিখা আকাশের দিকে উঠে যাচ্ছিল, তখন সদাপ্রভুর দূত ওই শিখা ধরে উঠে গেলেন। তা দেখে, মানোহ ও তাঁর স্ত্রী মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে পড়লেন।

21 And the messenger of Yahweh did no more appear unto Manoah or unto his wife. Then, Manoah knew that, the messenger of Yahweh, he was.

সদাপ্রভুর দূত যখন আর মানোহ ও তাঁর স্ত্রীকে দর্শন দিলেন না, তখন মানোহ বুঝতে পারলেন যে তিনি ছিলেন সদাপ্রভুর দূত।

22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall, die, —for, upon God, have we looked.

“আমাদের মৃত্যু অনিবার্য!” তিনি তাঁর স্ত্রীকে বললেন। “আমরা ঈশ্বরকে দেখেছি!”

23 But his wife said unto him, If Yahweh had been pleased to put us to death, he would not have received at our hand, an ascending-sacrifice and a meal-offering, nor would he have shewed us all these things, —and, at such a time, have let us hear the like of this!

কিন্তু তাঁর স্ত্রী উত্তর দিলেন, “সদাপ্রভু যদি আমাদের হত্যা করতে চাইতেন, তবে তিনি আমাদের হাত থেকে হোমবলি ও শস্য-নৈবেদ্য গ্রহণ করতেন না, বা এসব কিছু আমাদের দেখাতেন না বা এখন এসব কথাও আমাদের বলতেন না।”

24 So the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson, —and the boy grew, and Yahweh blessed him.

পরে সেই মহিলাটি এক পুত্রসন্তানের জন্ম দিলেন এবং তার নাম রাখলেন শিম্‌শোন। ছেলেটি বেড়ে উঠল এবং সদাপ্রভু তাকে আশীর্বাদ করলেন,

25 And the spirit of Yahweh began to urge him to and fro, in the camp of Dan, —between Zorah and Eshtaol.

এবং সে যখন সরা ও ইষ্টায়োলের মাঝখানে অবস্থিত মহনেদানে ছিল, তখন থেকেই সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা তাকে চালাতে শুরু করলেন।
