Judges 1
1 And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
Baada ya kifo cha Yoshua, wana wa Israeli walimuuliza Yahweh wakisema, “Ni nani atawashambulia kwanza Wakanaani kwa ajili yetu, ili kupigana nao?
2 And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.

3 Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
Watu wa Yuda wakawaambia wana wa Simeoni, ndugu zao, “Njoo pamoja nasi katika eneo letu ambalo tumepewa ili kwa pamoja tupigane na Wakanaani. Na sisi pia tutakwenda nanyi katika eneo mlilopewa.” Basi kabila la Simeoni wakaenda pamoja nao.
4 And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
Watu wa Yuda wakashinda, na Bwana akawapa ushindi juu ya Wakanaani na Waperizi. Wakawaua watu elfu kumi huko Bezeki.
5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
Wakamkuta Adoni Bezeki huko Bezeki, nao wakapigana naye na kuwashinda Wakanaani na Waperizi.
6 But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
Lakini Adoni Bezeki akamkimbilia, wakamfuata na kumshika, nao wakavikata vidole gumba na vidole vyake vikubwa.
7 Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
Adoni Bezek akasema, “Wafalme sabini, ambao na vidole gumba vyako na vidole vikubwa vilivyokatwa, walikusanya chakula chao chini ya meza yangu. Kama nilivyofanya, hata hivyo Mungu amefanya kwangu.” Wakamleta Yerusalemu, naye akafa huko.
8 And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.
Watu wa Yuda wakapigana dhidi ya jiji la Yerusalemu na kulichukua. Walishambulia kwa makali ya upanga na wakauwasha mji kwa moto.
9 And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
Baada ya hayo, watu wa Yuda walikwenda kupigana na Wakanaani waliokaa mlimani, Negebu, na magharibi mwa milima.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Yuda akaenda dhidi ya Wakanaani waliokaa Hebroni (jina la Hebroni hapo awali ilikuwa Kiriath-arba), nao wakamshinda Sheshai, Ahimani na Talmai.
11 And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
Kutoka huko watu wa Yuda walipigana na wenyeji wa Debiri (jina la Debiri hapo awali ilikuwa Kiriath-seferi).
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
Kalebu akasema, Yeyote atakayeivamia Kiriath-seferi na kuichukua, nitampa Aksa, binti yangu, awe mkewe.
13 Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
Otinieli, mwana wa Kenazi, ndugu mdogo wa Kalebu, akaiteka Debiri, naye Kalebu akampa Aksa, binti yake, awe mkewe.
14 And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?
Ndipo Aksa alifika kwa Othnieli, naye akamsihi amuombe baba yake ampe shamba. Alipokuwa akishuka katika punda wake, Kalebu akamwuliza, “Nikufanyie nini?”
15 And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
Akamwambia, Nibariki. Kwa kuwa umenipa nchi ya Negebu, nipe pia chemchemi za maji. Kwa hiyo Kalebu akampa chemchemi za juu na chemchemi za chini.
16 Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.
Kizazi cha Mkeeni shemeji yake na Musa, walikwenda kutoka mji wa Mitende pamoja na watu wa Yuda, mpaka jangwa la Yuda, ambalo liko Negevu, kuishi na watu wa Yuda karibu na Arad.
17 Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
Nao watu wa Yuda wakaenda pamoja na wana wa Simeoni ndugu zao, wakawaangamiza Wakanaani waliokaa Zefathi, wakaiharibu kabisa. Mji uliitwa Horma.
18 And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
Watu wa Yuda pia waliiteka Gaza na nchi iliyoizunguka, Ashkeloni na nchi iliyoizunguka, na Ekron na nchi iliyoizunguka.
19 And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
Yahweh alikuwa pamoja na watu wa Yuda na wakaimiliki nchi ya milima, lakini hawakuweza kuwatoa wenyeji wa kwenye bonde kwa sababu walikuwa na magari ya chuma.
20 So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
Hebroni alipewa Kalebu (kama Musa alivyosema), naye akawafukuza kutoka huko wana watatu wa Anaki.
21 But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
Lakini wana wa Benyamini hawakuwafukuza Wayebusi waliokaa Yerusalemu. Basi Wayebusi wakakaa na watu wa Benyamini huko Yerusalemu hata leo.
22 Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.
Nyumba ya Yusufu ilijiandaa kuishambulia Betheli, na Yahweh alikuwa pamoja nao.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.
Walipeleka watu kuipeleleza Betheli (jiji lililoitwa Luzu).
24 So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
Wapelelezi waliona mtu akitoka nje ya jiji, wakamwambia, “Tafadhali tuonyeshe jinsi ya kuingia ndani ya jiji, na tutakutendea mema.”
25 And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.
Aliwaonyesha njia ya kuingia kwenye mji. Waliuteka mji kwa makali ya upanga, lakini wakamuacha mtu huyo na ndugu zake wote waondoke.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.
Na mtu huyo akaenda nchi ya Wahiti, akajenga mji, akauita Luzu, ambalo jina lake hata leo.
27 But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;
Watu wa Manase hawakuwafukuza watu waliokuwa katika miji ya Bethsheani na vijiji vyake, au Taanaki na vijiji vyake, au wale waliokaa Dori na vijiji vyake, wala wale waliokaa Ibleamu na vijiji vyake, wala walioshi Megido na vijiji vyake, kwa sababu Wakanaani walikuwa wameamua kuishi katika nchi hiyo.
28 when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.
Israeli ipokuwa na nguvu, waliwalazimisha Wakanaani wawatumikie kwa kazi ngumu, lakini hawakuwafukuza kabisa.
29 And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.
Efraimu hakuwafukuza Wakanaani waliokaa Gezeri; kwa hiyo Wakanaani wakakaa kati yao.
30 Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.
Zebuloni hakuwafukuza watu wa Kitroni, wala watu waliokuwa Nahaloli; na Wakanaani wakaendelea kuishi pamoja nao; lakini Zabuloni akawalazimisha Wakanaani wawatumikie kwa kazi ngumu.
31 Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
Asheri hakuwafukuza watu wanaoishi Aka, au watu wanaoishi Sidoni, au wale wanaoishi Alabu, Akzib, Helba, Afeka, au Rehobu.
32 but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.
Kwa hiyo kabila ya Asheri iliishi kati ya Wakanaani (waliokaa katika nchi hiyo), kwa sababu hawakuwafukuza.
33 Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
Na kabila la Naftali halikuwafukuza watu waliokuwa wakiishi Bethshemeshi, wala waliokuwa wakiishi Bethanathi. Kwa hiyo kabila la Naftali liliishi kati ya Wakanaani (watu waliokuwa wakiishi katika nchi hiyo). Hata hivyo, wenyeji wa Bethshemeshi na Bethanathi walilazimishwa kufanya kazi ngumu kwa Naphthali.
34 And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
Waamori waliwalazimisha kabila la Dani kuishi katika nchi ya kilima, hawakuwaruhusu kuja bondeni.
35 and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.
Basi Waamori waliishi katika mlima wa Heresi, huko Aiyaloni, na Shaalbimu, lakini nguvu za kijeshi za nyumba ya Yusufu ziliwashinda, nao wakalazimishwa kuwatumikia kwa kazi ngumu.
36 And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
Mpaka wa Waamori ulikuwa kutoka kilima cha Akrabimu huko Sela hadi nchi ya vilima.
