Judges 1
1 And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
Muerto Josué, los hijos de Israel consultaron a Yahvé, diciendo: “¿Quién de nosotros marchará primero contra el cananeo para combatirlo?”
2 And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.
Respondió Yahvé: “Judá; he aquí que he entregado la tierra en sus manos.”
3 Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
Dijo entonces Judá a Simeón, su hermano: “Sube conmigo a la tierra de mi herencia, para hacer guerra contra los cananeos, y también yo iré contigo a la tierra de tu herencia.” Y Simeón le acompañó.
4 And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
Subió Judá, y Yahvé dio en sus manos a los cananeos y fereceos, de los cuales derrotaron en Bésec diez mil hombres.
5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
Encontraron en Bésec a Adonibésec, le atacaron y derrotaron a los cananeos y a los fereceos.
6 But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
Huyó Adonibésec; mas le persiguieron y después de haberle tomado preso le cortaron los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies.
7 Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
Entonces dijo Adonibésec: “Setenta reyes que tenían cortados los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies, recogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa. Como yo hice, así me paga Dios.” Y le llevaron a Jerusalén, donde murió.
8 And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.
Pues los hijos de Judá atacaron a Jerusalén y habiéndola tomado la pasaron a filo de espada y pusieron fuego a la ciudad.
9 And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
Después descendieron los hijos de Judá a combatir a los cananeos que habitaban en la montaña, en el Négueb y en la Sefelá.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Y marchó Judá contra los cananeos que habitaban en Hebrón, cuyo nombre antiguo era Kiryat- Arbá, y derrotaron a Sesai, Ahimán y Talmai.
11 And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
De allí marchó contra los habitantes de Dabir, cuyo nombre antiguo era Kiryatséfer.
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
Entonces dijo Caleb: “Al que derrote a Kiryatséfer y la tome, le daré por mujer mi hija Acsá.”
13 Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
Y la tomó Otoniel, hijo de Kenas, hermano menor de Caleb; y este le dio por mujer su hija Acsá.
14 And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?
Mientras ella se iba (con su marido), este la instigó a que pidiera a su padre un campo; y como ella se bajó del asno, le preguntó Caleb: “¿Qué te pasa?”
15 And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
Respondió ella: “Dame una bendición; ya que me has dado tierra de secano, dame también fuentes de agua.” Y Caleb le dio fuentes en las regiones superiores y en las inferiores.
16 Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.
Los hijos del Cineo, cuñado de Moisés, subieron juntamente con los hijos de Judá, desde la ciudad de las Palmeras, al desierto de Judá, que está al sur, en Arad; y vinieron a habitar con el pueblo.
17 Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
Después acompañó Judá a su hermano Simeón y derrotaron a los cananeos que habitaban en Sefat; ejecutaron allí el anatema y fue llamada aquella ciudad Horma.
18 And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
Judá tomó también a Gaza con su territorio, a Ascalón con su territorio y a Acarón con su territorio.
19 And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
Yahvé estuvo con Judá de modo que pudo apoderarse de la montaña, pero no pudo expulsar a los habitantes de los valles, porque tenían carros de hierro.
20 So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
A Caleb se le dio Hebrón, como le había prometido Moisés; y Caleb expulsó de allí a los tres hijos de Enac.
21 But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
Los hijos de Benjamín no expulsaron a los jebuseos que habitaban en Jerusalén; y así habitan los jebuseos con los hijos de Benjamín en Jerusalén hasta el día de hoy.
22 Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.
Los de la casa de José, por su parte, subieron contra Betel, y Yahvé estuvo con ellos.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.
Mientras exploraban Betel, cuyo nombre antiguo era Luz,
24 So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
vieron los centinelas a un hombre que salía de la ciudad, y le dijeron: “Muéstranos, te rogamos, por dónde se puede entrar en la ciudad, y usaremos contigo de misericordia.”
25 And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.
Él les mostró por donde se podía entrar en la ciudad, y ellos pasaron la ciudad a filo de espada; mas dejaron salir a aquel hombre con toda su familia,
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.
el cual fue a tierra de los heteos, donde edificó una ciudad, y la llamó Luz. Este es su nombre hasta el día de hoy.
27 But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;
Manasés no desposeyó a (los habitantes de) Betseán con sus aldeas, ni a los de Taanac con sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Dor con sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Ibleam con sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Megiddó con sus aldeas; por lo cual los cananeos lograron mantenerse en aquel territorio.
28 when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.
Cuando Israel cobró fuerza, hizo tributarios a los cananeos, pero no los expulsó por completo.
29 And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.
Efraím no expulsó a los cananeos que habitaban en Guécer; y los cananeos siguieron viviendo en medio de ellos en Guécer.
30 Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.
Zabulón no expulsó a los habitantes de Ketrón, ni a los habitantes de Nahalol; y los cananeos siguieron viviendo en medio de ellos pero vinieron a ser tributarios.
31 Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
Aser no expulsó a los habitantes de Acó ni a los habitantes de Sidón, Ahalab, Aczib, Helbá, Afee y Rohob;
32 but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.
sino que los hijos de Aser vivieron en medio de los cananeos, habitantes del país, pues, no los expulsaron.
33 Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
Neftalí no expulsó a los habitantes de Betsemes, ni a los habitantes de Betanat, sino que habitó en medio de los cananeos, habitantes del país; pero los habitantes de Betsemes y de Betanat vinieron a ser tributarios suyos.
34 And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
Los amorreos estrecharon a los hijos de Dan en las montañas; pues no les permitían bajar a los valles.
35 and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.
Lograron los amorreos habitar en Har-Heres, en Ayalón, y en Saalbim; mas cuando la mano de la casa de José pesó sobre ellos, vinieron a ser tributarios.
36 And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
El territorio de los amorreos se extendía desde la subida de Acrabim y desde Selá para arriba.
