< Joshua 9 >

1 And it came to pass, when they heard, —namely, all the kings who were over the Jordan, in the hill country and in the lowland, and in all the coast of the great sea, over against the Lebanon, —the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; —
Nísinsin yìí, nígbà tí gbogbo ọba tó wà ní ìwọ̀-oòrùn Jordani gbọ́ nípa nǹkan wọ̀nyí, àwọn náà tí ó wà ní orí òkè àti àwọn tí ó wà ní ẹsẹ̀ òkè, àti gbogbo àwọn tí ó wà ní agbègbè Òkun Ńlá títí ó fi dé Lebanoni (àwọn ọba Hiti, Amori, Kenaani, Peresi, Hifi àti Jebusi)
2 then gathered they themselves together as one man, to fight with Joshua, and with Israel, —with one accord.
wọ́n sì kó ara wọn jọ láti bá Joṣua àti Israẹli jagun.
3 Now, the inhabitants of Gibeon, heard that which Joshua had done unto Jericho and unto Ai;
Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí àwọn ènìyàn Gibeoni gbọ́ ohun tí Joṣua ṣe sí Jeriko àti Ai,
4 they, however, acted craftily, and went and started, —and took old sacks for their asses, and leathern wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;

Àwọn ọkùnrin náà sì wọ bàtà àti aṣọ tí ó ti gbó. Gbogbo oúnjẹ tí wọ́n pèsè fún ara wọn sì bu.
6 So they took their journey unto Joshua, unto the camp, at Gilgal, —and said unto him, and unto the men of Israel, From a far country, are we come, Now, therefore, solemnise with us a covenant.
Wọ́n sì tọ Joṣua lọ ní ibùdó ní Gilgali, wọ́n sì sọ fún òun àti àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli pé, “Ìlú òkèrè ní àwọn ti wá, ẹ ṣe àdéhùn àlàáfíà pẹ̀lú wa.”
7 And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, —Peradventure, in our midst, ye are dwelling, how then can we solemnise with you a covenant?
Àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli sọ fún àwọn ará Hifi pé, “Ṣùgbọ́n bóyá tòsí wa ni ẹ ń gbé. Báwo ni a ó ṣe lè ṣe àdéhùn pẹ̀lú yín?”
8 And they said unto Joshua: Thy servants, we are. And Joshua said unto them: Who, are ye? And, from whence, come ye?
“Ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ní àwa í ṣe.” Wọ́n sọ fún Joṣua. Ṣùgbọ́n Joṣua béèrè, “Ta ni yín àti pé níbo ni ẹ̀yin ti wá?”
9 And they said unto him—From a very far country, have thy servants come, because of the name of Yahweh thy God, —because we had heard his fame, and all that he had done in Egypt;
Wọ́n sì dáhùn pé, “Ní ilẹ̀ òkèèrè ní àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ tí wá, nítorí orúkọ Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ. Nítorí tí àwa ti gbọ́ òkìkí rẹ àti ohun gbogbo tí ó ti ṣe ní Ejibiti,
10 and all that he had done unto the two kings of the Amorites who were over the Jordan, —unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, and unto Og, king of Bashan, who was in Ashtaroth.

11 So our elders and all the inhabitants of our land spake unto us, saying—Take ye, in your hand, provision for the journey, and go your way to meet them, —then shall ye say unto them, Your servants, we are. Now, therefore, solemnise with us a covenant.
Àwọn àgbàgbà wa àti gbogbo àwọn tí ń gbé ìlú wa sọ fún wa pé, ‘Ẹ mú oúnjẹ lọ́wọ́ fún ìrìnàjò yín, ẹ lọ pàdé wọn, kí ẹ sì sọ fún wọn pé, “Àwa ni ìránṣẹ́ yín, ẹ dá àdéhùn pẹ̀lú wa.”’
12 This our bread, took we, hot, for our provision, out of our houses, on the day we came forth to journey unto you, —but, now, lo! it is dry, yea it is broken;
Gbígbóná ní a mú oúnjẹ wa wá, nígbà tí a dì í ní ilé ní ọjọ́ tí à ń bọ̀ wá sọ́dọ̀ yín. Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ wò ó bí ó ṣe gbẹ àti bí ó sì ṣe bu nísinsin yìí.
13 and, these leathern wine bottles, which we filled new, lo! also, they are rent, —and, as for these our mantles and our sandals, they are worn out, by reason of the very long journey.
Àti ìgò wáìnì wọ̀nyí, tí àwa rọ kún tuntun ni, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ wò ó bí wọ́n ti sán. Aṣọ àti bàtà wa ni ó sì ti gbó nítorí ìrìnàjò ọ̀nà jíjìn.”
14 So the men took of their provision, —but, the bidding of Yahweh, had they not asked.
Àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli sì yẹ oúnjẹ wọn wò, wọn kò sì wádìí ní ọwọ́ Olúwa.
15 And Joshua made peace with them, and solemnised with them a covenant to let them live, —and the princes of the assembly, entered into an oath with them.
Nígbà náà ni Joṣua ṣe àdéhùn àlàáfíà pẹ̀lú wọn láti dá wọn sí, àti àwọn olórí ìjọ ènìyàn fi ọwọ́ sí àdéhùn náà nípa ṣíṣe ìbúra.
16 And it came to pass, at the end of three days after they had solemnised with them a covenant, that they heard that, near neighbours, they were unto them, and, in their midst, they were dwelling.
Ní ẹ̀yìn ọjọ́ mẹ́ta tí wọ́n ti ṣe àdéhùn pẹ̀lú àwọn ará Gibeoni, àwọn ọmọ Israẹli gbọ́ pé aládùúgbò wọn ni wọ́n, tí ń gbé ní tòsí wọn.
17 So the sons of Israel brake up, and came in unto their cities on the third day, —their cities, being Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ní àwọn ọmọ Israẹli jáde, wọ́n sì dé ìlú wọn ní ọjọ́ kẹta: Gibeoni, Kefira, Beeroti àti Kiriati-Jearimu.
18 And the sons of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the assembly had sworn unto them by Yahweh, God of Israel, —but all the assembly murmured against the princes.
Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ọmọ Israẹli kò si kọlù wọ́n, nítorí pé àwọn àgbàgbà ìjọ ènìyàn ti búra fún wọn ní orúkọ Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli. Gbogbo ènìyàn sì kùn sí àwọn àgbàgbà náà,
19 And all the princes said unto all the assembly, We, have sworn unto them, by Yahweh, God of Israel, —now, therefore, we may not touch them.
ṣùgbọ́n gbogbo àwọn olórí dáhùn pé, “Àwa ti búra fún wọn ní orúkọ Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli, a kò sì lè fọwọ́ kàn wọ́n nísinsin yìí.
20 This, will we do unto them, even let them live, —lest there come on us wrath, because of the oath which we have sworn unto them.
Èyí ní àwa yóò ṣe sí wọn, àwa yóò dá wọn sí, kí ìbínú kí ó má ba à wá sórí wa, nítorí ìbúra tí a búra fún wọn.”
21 And the princes said unto them—Let them live. So they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the assembly, as the princes spake unto them.
Wọ́n tẹ̀síwájú, “Ẹ dá wọn sí, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ jẹ́ kí wọn jẹ́ gégigégi àti apọnmi fún gbogbo ìlú.” Àwọn àgbàgbà náà sì mú ìlérí wọn ṣẹ fún wọn.
22 And Joshua called for them, and spake unto them, saying, —Wherefore did ye deceive us, saying—We are, very far, from you, whereas, ye, in our midst, are dwelling?
Nígbà náà ni Joṣua pe àwọn ọmọ Gibeoni jọ pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi tàn wá wí pe, ‘Àwa gbé ní ibi tí ó jìnnà sí yín,’ nígbà tí ó jẹ́ pé tòsí wa ní ẹ̀yin ń gbé?
23 Now, therefore, accursed, ye are, —and ye shall not cease to be in bond-service as hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God.
Nísinsin yìí, ẹ̀yin di ẹni ègún, ẹ̀yin kò sì ní kúrò ní gégigégi àti apọnmi fún ilé Ọlọ́run mi.”
24 And they responded to Joshua, and said—Because it was, plainly told, thy servants, how that Yahweh thy God had commanded Moses his servant to give unto you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, —therefore feared we greatly, for our lives, because of you, and did this thing.
Wọ́n sì dá Joṣua lóhùn pé, “Nítorí tí a sọ fún àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ dájúṣáká bí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ti pàṣẹ fún Mose ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀, láti fún yín ní gbogbo ilẹ̀ náà, kí ó sì pa gbogbo olùgbé ilẹ̀ náà run kúrò ní iwájú yín. Nítorí náà, àwa bẹ̀rù ẹ̀mí wa nítorí yín, èyí sì ni ìdí tí a fi ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀.
25 Now, therefore, here we are, in thy hand, —as may be good and right in thine eyes, to do unto us, do.
Nísinsin yìí, àwa wà ní ọwọ́ yín. Ohunkóhun tí ẹ bá rò pé ó yẹ ó si tọ́ lójú yín ní kí ẹ fi wá ṣe.”
26 And he did to them so, —and rescued them out of the hand of the sons of Israel, and they slew them not.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ní Joṣua sì gbà wọ́n là kúrò ní ọwọ́ àwọn ọmọ Israẹli. Wọn kò sì pa wọ́n.
27 And Joshua appointed them that day to be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto the assembly, —and unto the altar of Yahweh, [as they are] until this day, in the place which he should choose.
Ní ọjọ́ náà ni ó sọ àwọn Gibeoni di aṣẹ́gi àti apọnmi fún àwọn ará ìlú àti fún pẹpẹ Olúwa ní ibi tí Olúwa yóò yàn. Báyìí ni wọ́n wà títí di òní yìí.
