< Joshua 9 >

1 And it came to pass, when they heard, —namely, all the kings who were over the Jordan, in the hill country and in the lowland, and in all the coast of the great sea, over against the Lebanon, —the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; —
Jordan niduem bang ih siangpahrangnawk, mae nuiah kaom kaminawk, azawn ah om kaminawk, Lebanon mae hmaa bang ih, tuipui kalen taeng boih ah kaom, Hit, Amor, Kanaan, Periz, Hiv hoi Jebus kami ih siangpahrangnawk mah tamthang thaih o naah,
2 then gathered they themselves together as one man, to fight with Joshua, and with Israel, —with one accord.
Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk tuk hanah, poek amhong o moe, maeto ah amkhueng o.
3 Now, the inhabitants of Gibeon, heard that which Joshua had done unto Jericho and unto Ai;
Jeriko vangpui hoi Ai vangpui nuiah, Joshua mah sak ih hmuen to Gibeon kaminawk mah thaih o naah,
4 they, however, acted craftily, and went and started, —and took old sacks for their asses, and leathern wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
nihcae loe aling koehhaih hoiah toksak o; kaprawn khukbuennawk, kaprawn moe, kangquem misurtui pailangnawk to laa hrang a phawh o sak moe, laicaeh baktiah angsak o.
5 and sandals, old and patched, upon their feet, and worn-out mantles upon them, —and, all the bread of their provision, was dry and broken.
To kaminawk loe khokpanai kaprawn abuenh o moe, khukbuen kaprawn to angkhuk o; nihcae mah buh ah tapawk o ih takaw doeh zaek boeh moe, tapatpae boih boeh.
6 So they took their journey unto Joshua, unto the camp, at Gilgal, —and said unto him, and unto the men of Israel, From a far country, are we come, Now, therefore, solemnise with us a covenant.
To pacoengah ataihaih ahmuen Gilgal ah Joshua khaeah a caeh o moe, anih hoi Israel kaminawk khaeah, Kaicae loe angthla parai ahmuen hoiah kang zoh o pongah, kaicae hoi ampui sah si, tiah a naa o.
7 And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, —Peradventure, in our midst, ye are dwelling, how then can we solemnise with you a covenant?
Israel kaminawk mah Hiv kaminawk khaeah, Nangcae loe kaicae taengah na oh o pongah, kawbangmaw nangcae hoi ampui ka sah o thai tih? tiah a naa o.
8 And they said unto Joshua: Thy servants, we are. And Joshua said unto them: Who, are ye? And, from whence, come ye?
Nihcae mah Joshua khaeah, Kaicae loe na tamna ah ni ka oh o boeh, tiah a naa o. Toe Joshua mah nihcae khaeah, Nangcae loe mi aa? Naa bang hoiah maw nang zoh o? tiah a naa.
9 And they said unto him—From a very far country, have thy servants come, because of the name of Yahweh thy God, —because we had heard his fame, and all that he had done in Egypt;
Nihcae mah anih khaeah, Ahmin kamthang na Angraeng Sithaw hoi anih mah Izip prae ah sak ih hmuennawk ka thaih o pongah, angthla parai ahmuen hoiah kang zoh o.
10 and all that he had done unto the two kings of the Amorites who were over the Jordan, —unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, and unto Og, king of Bashan, who was in Ashtaroth.
Jordan vapui ni angyae bangah kaom, Amor siangpahrang hnik; Heshbon siangpahrang Sihon hoi Ashtaroth vangpui ah kaom Bashan siangpahrang Og nuiah sak ih hmuennawk to ka thaih o boeh.
11 So our elders and all the inhabitants of our land spake unto us, saying—Take ye, in your hand, provision for the journey, and go your way to meet them, —then shall ye say unto them, Your servants, we are. Now, therefore, solemnise with us a covenant.
To pongah kaicae ih kacoehtanawk hoi prae thungah kaom kaminawk boih mah, Kholong caeh hanah caaknaek phaw oh loe, nihcae tongh hanah caeh oh, nihcae khaeah, Kaicae loe na tamna ah ni ka oh o, to pongah kaicae hoi ampui sah si, tiah thui oh, tiah ang naa o.
12 This our bread, took we, hot, for our provision, out of our houses, on the day we came forth to journey unto you, —but, now, lo! it is dry, yea it is broken;
Nang tongh hanah kang zoh o na niah ka tapawk o ih takaw doeh, khenah, vaihi loe zaek boeh moe, tapatpae buk boeh;
13 and, these leathern wine bottles, which we filled new, lo! also, they are rent, —and, as for these our mantles and our sandals, they are worn out, by reason of the very long journey.
hae ih misurtui doeh tabu kangtha pongah ni ka lawn o; toe khenah, vaihi loe tapok boih boeh; kholong kangthla hoiah kang zoh o pongah, khukbuennawk hoi khokpanainawk doeh prawn boih boeh, tiah a naa o.
14 So the men took of their provision, —but, the bidding of Yahweh, had they not asked.
Israel kaminawk loe Angraeng khaeah dueng ai ah, thoemto nihcae ih caaknaek to caak pae o.
15 And Joshua made peace with them, and solemnised with them a covenant to let them live, —and the princes of the assembly, entered into an oath with them.
Joshua loe nihcae hoi angdaehhaih sak moe, nihcae hingsak hanah ampui ah sak o; rangpui zaehoikung kacoehtanawk mah nihcae khaeah lokkamhaih sak o.
16 And it came to pass, at the end of three days after they had solemnised with them a covenant, that they heard that, near neighbours, they were unto them, and, in their midst, they were dwelling.
Ampui sakhaih ni thumto pacoengah, to kaminawk loe, angmacae taengah khosah kami, nihcae taengah kaom kaminawk ni, tiah Israel kaminawk mah panoek o.
17 So the sons of Israel brake up, and came in unto their cities on the third day, —their cities, being Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.
To pongah Israel kaminawk loe ni thumto na niah, nihcae ih vangpui Gibeon, Khephirah, Beeroth hoi Kirjath-Jearim ah caeh o.
18 And the sons of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the assembly had sworn unto them by Yahweh, God of Israel, —but all the assembly murmured against the princes.
Rangpui zaehoikung kacoehtanawk mah nihcae khaeah, Israel Angraeng Sithaw ih ahmin hoiah lokkam o boeh pongah, to vangpuinawk to Israel kaminawk mah tuh o ai. Toe kaminawk mah zaehoikungnawk to laisaep o thuih.
19 And all the princes said unto all the assembly, We, have sworn unto them, by Yahweh, God of Israel, —now, therefore, we may not touch them.
Zaehoikungnawk boih mah kaminawk khaeah, Israel Angraeng Sithaw ih ahmin hoiah nihcae khaeah lokkamhaih ka sak o boeh pongah, vaihi nihcae to a sui o mak ai boeh.
20 This, will we do unto them, even let them live, —lest there come on us wrath, because of the oath which we have sworn unto them.
Nihcae khaeah lokkamhaih a sak o boeh pongah, to lokkamhaih to aicae nuiah krak han ai ah, hae kaminawk hae hingsak si loe, nihcae nuiah hae tiah sah o si, tiah a thuih o.
21 And the princes said unto them—Let them live. So they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the assembly, as the princes spake unto them.
Zaehoikungnawk mah nihcae khaeah, Hae kaminawk hae hingsak si, tiah a naa o; toe hae kaminawk hae kaminawk boih hanah thing aek kami hoi tui doh kami ah om o nasoe, tiah zaehoikungnawk mah rangpuinawk khaeah thuih pae o.
22 And Joshua called for them, and spake unto them, saying, —Wherefore did ye deceive us, saying—We are, very far, from you, whereas, ye, in our midst, are dwelling?
Joshua mah Gibeon kaminawk to kawk moe, nihcae khaeah, Tipongah kaicae taengah na oh o to mah, kangthla parai prae hoiah kang zoh o, tiah na thuih o moe, nang ling o loe?
23 Now, therefore, accursed, ye are, —and ye shall not cease to be in bond-service as hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God.
To pongah vaihi kasae na tongh o boeh; misong ah oh moe, ka Sithaw im hanah thing apu kami, tui doh kami ah ohhaih thung hoiah mi doeh na loih o mak ai boeh, tiah a naa.
24 And they responded to Joshua, and said—Because it was, plainly told, thy servants, how that Yahweh thy God had commanded Moses his servant to give unto you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, —therefore feared we greatly, for our lives, because of you, and did this thing.
Nihcae mah Joshua khaeah, Hae prae boih hae nangcae han paek moe, hae ah kaom kaminawk boih nangcae hmaa ah hum boih hanah, na Angraeng Sithaw mah a tamna Mosi khaeah thuih pae ih loknawk to na tamnanawk mah ka thaih o boeh; nangcae ban ah duek han ka zit o pongah, hae tiah ka sak o moeng boeh, tiah a naa o.
25 Now, therefore, here we are, in thy hand, —as may be good and right in thine eyes, to do unto us, do.
Khenah, kaicae loe vaihi na ban ah ni ka oh o; hoih tiah na poek o ih baktih toengah sah o halat ah, tiah a naa o.
26 And he did to them so, —and rescued them out of the hand of the sons of Israel, and they slew them not.
To pongah Joshua mah nihcae to hum ai, Israel kaminawk ban thung hoiah pahlong.
27 And Joshua appointed them that day to be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto the assembly, —and unto the altar of Yahweh, [as they are] until this day, in the place which he should choose.
To na ni hoi kamtong Joshua mah Gibeon kaminawk to Angraeng ih hmaicam hoi kaminawk hanah, thing apu kami hoi tui doh kami ah suek; vaihni ni khoek to nihcae mah to tok to sak o.
