Joshua 8
1 Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Do not fear nor be dismayed, take with thee all the army, and arise, go up to Ai, —see! I have given into thy hand, the king of Ai and his people, and his city, and his land;
Und Jehova sprach zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht und erschrick nicht! Nimm alles Kriegsvolk mit dir und mache dich auf, ziehe hinauf nach Ai. Siehe, ich habe den König von Ai und sein Volk und seine Stadt und sein Land in deine Hand gegeben.
2 so shalt thou do unto Ai and to her king, as thou didst unto Jericho unto her king, save only, the spoil thereof and the cattle thereof, shall ye take as your own prey, —set thee an ambush for the city, behind it.
Und du sollst an Ai und an seinem König tun, so wie du an Jericho und an seinem König getan hast; jedoch seine Beute und sein Vieh dürft ihr für euch plündern. Lege dir einen Hinterhalt gegen die Stadt, in ihren Rücken.
3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai, —and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valour, and sent them forth by night.
Da machte sich Josua mit allem Kriegsvolk auf, um nach Ai hinaufzuziehen. Und Josua wählte 30000 Mann aus, streitbare Männer, und sandte sie ab bei der Nacht.
4 And he commanded them, saying—See! ye, shall be lying in ambush against the city, behind the city, do not go very far from the city, —so shall ye all be ready.
Und er gebot ihnen und sprach: Sehet, ihr sollt den Hinterhalt bilden gegen die Stadt, im Rücken der Stadt; entfernet euch nicht allzuweit von der Stadt, sondern seid alle bereit.
5 But, I, and all the people who are with me, will draw near unto the city, —and it shall be, when they come out to meet us, as at the first, then will we flee before them;
Und ich und alles Volk, das bei mir ist, wir wollen uns der Stadt nähern; und es soll geschehen, wenn sie herauskommen, uns entgegen, wie das erste Mal, so wollen wir vor ihnen fliehen.
6 so will they come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, Fleeing before us, as at the first! therefore will we flee before them.
Und sie werden herausziehen hinter uns her, bis wir sie von der Stadt abgerissen haben; denn sie werden sagen: Sie fliehen vor uns wie das erste Mal! und wir wollen vor ihnen fliehen.
7 Then, ye, shall rise up out of the ambush, and take possession of the city, —and Yahweh your God will deliver it into your hand.
Dann sollt ihr euch aus dem Hinterhalt aufmachen und die Stadt in Besitz nehmen; und Jehova, euer Gott, wird sie in eure Hand geben.
8 And it shall be, when ye have seized the city, then shall ye burn the city with fire, according to the word of Yahweh, shall ye do, —see! I have commanded you.
Und es soll geschehen, wenn ihr die Stadt eingenommen habt, so sollt ihr die Stadt mit Feuer anzünden; nach dem Worte Jehovas sollt ihr tun. Sehet, ich habe es euch geboten. -
9 So Joshua sent them forth, and they went into ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai, —but Joshua lodged that night in the midst of the people.
Und Josua sandte sie ab, und sie zogen in den Hinterhalt und hielten zwischen Bethel und Ai, westlich von Ai. Und Josua brachte jene Nacht in der Mitte des Volkes zu.
10 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, —and went up—he and the elders of Israel, before the people, to Ai.
Und Josua machte sich des Morgens früh auf und musterte das Volk; und er zog hinauf, er und die Ältesten von Israel, vor dem Volke her nach Ai.
11 And, all the people of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came in, right before the city, —and pitched on the north of Ai, with, a valley, between them and Ai.
Und alles Kriegsvolk, das bei ihm war, zog hinauf und rückte heran, und sie kamen der Stadt gegenüber; und sie lagerten sich nördlich von Ai, und das Tal war zwischen ihm und Ai.
12 And he took about five thousand men, —and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city.
Er hatte aber bei fünftausend Mann genommen und sie als Hinterhalt zwischen Bethel und Ai gelegt, westlich von der Stadt.
13 And, when the people had set all the host that was on the north of the city, with the rear thereof on the west of the city, then went Joshua, during the night, into the midst of the valley.
Und so stellten sie das Volk auf, das ganze Lager, das nördlich von der Stadt war, und dessen Hinterhalt westlich von der Stadt; und Josua zog in selbiger Nacht mitten in das Tal.
14 And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted, and rose up early, and the men of the city came out to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at an appointed time, before the waste plain, —he not knowing that there was an ambush lying in wait for him, behind the city.
Und es geschah, als der König von Ai es sah, da eilten die Männer der Stadt und machten sich früh auf und zogen hinaus, Israel entgegen zum Streit, er und all sein Volk, an den bestimmten Ort, vor [d. h. östlich von] der Ebene. [H. Araba, wie Kap. 3,16; so auch Kap. 11,2. 16;12,1. 3. 8;18,18] Er wußte aber nicht, daß ihm im Rücken der Stadt ein Hinterhalt gelegt war.
15 So then Joshua and all Israel suffered themselves to be smitten before them, —and fled, by the way of the wilderness;
Und Josua und ganz Israel ließen sich vor ihnen schlagen und flohen des Weges zur Wüste.
16 and all the people who were in the city were called out to pursue them, —and they pursued Joshua, and so were drawn out away from the city.
Da wurde das ganze Volk, das in der Stadt war, zusammengerufen, um ihnen nachzujagen; und sie jagten Josua nach und wurden von der Stadt abgerissen.
17 And there remained not a man, in Ai or Bethel, who had not gone out after Israel, —and they left the city, open, and pursued Israel.
Und es blieb kein Mann in Ai und Bethel übrig, der nicht hinter Israel her ausgezogen wäre; und sie ließen die Stadt offen und jagten Israel nach.
18 Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Stretch out with the javelin which is in thy hand, towards Ai, for, into thy hand, will I deliver it. So Joshua stretched out with the javelin which was in his hand, towards the city.
Da sprach Jehova zu Josua: Strecke den Spieß, der in deiner Hand ist, gegen Ai aus; denn ich will es in deine Hand geben. Und Josua streckte den Spieß, der in seiner Hand war, gegen die Stadt aus.
19 And, the ambush, rose up quickly, out of their place, and ran, when he stretched out his hand, and entered the city, and captured it, —and hasted, and set the city on fire.
Und der Hinterhalt machte sich eilends von seinem Orte auf und lief, als er seine Hand ausstreckte, und sie kamen in die Stadt und nahmen sie ein; und sie eilten und zündeten die Stadt mit Feuer an.
20 And the men of Ai turned behind them, and looked, and lo! the smoke of the city had risen up towards the heavens, and there was in them no strength, to flee this way or that way, —moreover, the people that were fleeing to the wilderness, turned back upon the pursuers.
Und die Männer von Ai wandten sich um und sahen, und siehe, der Rauch der Stadt stieg gen Himmel empor; und sie hatten keine Kraft, dahin noch dorthin zu fliehen. Denn das Volk, das nach der Wüste hin geflohen war, wandte sich um gegen die Nachjagenden.
21 Yea, when, Joshua and all Israel, saw that the ambush had captured the city, and that the smoke of the city had risen up, then returned they, and smote the men of Ai.
Denn als Josua und ganz Israel sahen, daß der Hinterhalt die Stadt eingenommen hatte, und daß der Rauch der Stadt emporstieg, da kehrten sie um und schlugen die Männer von Ai.
22 And, the others, came forth out of the city to meet them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side, —and they smote them, until there was left them none to remain or to escape.
Jene aber zogen aus der Stadt ihnen entgegen, so daß sie mitten zwischen Israel waren, die einen von hierher und die anderen von dorther. Und sie schlugen sie, bis ihnen kein Entronnener oder Entkommener übrigblieb.
23 And, the king of Ai, they caught alive, —and brought him near unto Joshua.
Und den König von Ai griffen sie lebendig und brachten ihn zu Josua.
24 And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness whither they had pursued them, and all of them had fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, then all Israel returned to Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
Und es geschah, als Israel das Würgen aller Bewohner von Ai auf dem Felde, in der Wüste, wo sie ihnen nachgejagt waren, beendigt hatte, und sie alle durch die Schärfe des Schwertes gefallen, bis sie aufgerieben waren, da kehrte ganz Israel um nach Ai, und sie schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes.
25 And so it was, that all who fell that day, both of men and of women, were twelve thousand, —all people of Ai.
Und alle an selbigem Tage Gefallenen, sowohl Männer als Weiber, waren zwölftausend, alle Leute von Ai.
26 Now, Joshua, drew not back his hand which he had stretched out with the javelin, —until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
Und Josua zog seine Hand, die er mit dem Spieße ausgestreckt hatte, nicht zurück, bis man alle Bewohner von Ai vertilgt [Eig. verbannt. So auch Kap. 10,1] hatte.
27 Nevertheless, the cattle and the spoil of that city, Israel took as their own prey, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he commanded Joshua.
Nur das Vieh und die Beute jener Stadt plünderte Israel für sich, nach dem Worte Jehovas, das er dem Josua geboten hatte.
28 So then Joshua burned Ai, —and made of it an age-abiding heap—a desolation, [as it remaineth] until this day.
Und Josua verbrannte Ai und machte es zu einem ewigen Trümmerhaufen, bis auf diesen Tag.
29 And, the king of Ai, hanged he on a tree until eventide, —but, at the going in of the sun, Joshua gave command and they took down his dead body from the tree, and cast it in at the opening of the gate of the city, and raised up over it a great heap of stones—[which remaineth] until this day.
Und den König von Ai ließ er an einen Baum [W. an das Holz] hängen bis zur Abendzeit; [Vergl. 5. Mose 21,22. 23] und beim Untergang der Sonne gebot Josua, und sie nahmen seinen Leichnam von dem Baume herab und warfen ihn an den Eingang des Stadttores und errichteten einen großen Steinhaufen über ihm, der bis auf diesen Tag da ist.
30 Than, built Joshua, an altar, unto Yahweh, God of Israel, —in Mount Ebal:
Damals baute Josua dem Jehova, dem Gott Israels, einen Altar auf dem Berge Ebal,
31 as Moses, the servant of Yahweh, commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the scroll of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, whereon had not been wielded any tool of iron, —and they caused to go up thereon, ascending-sacrifices unto Yahweh, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
so wie Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, den Kindern Israel geboten hatte, wie im Buche des Gesetzes Moses geschrieben ist, einen Altar von ganzen Steinen, über die man kein Eisen geschwungen hatte. Und sie opferten darauf dem Jehova Brandopfer und schlachteten Friedensopfer.
32 Then wrote he there, upon the stones, a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the sons of Israel.
Und er schrieb daselbst auf die Steine eine Abschrift des Gesetzes Moses, welches er vor den Kindern Israel geschrieben hatte.
33 And, all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, were standing on this side and on that side of the ark, before the priests the Levites, who were bearing the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, as well the sojourner as the home-born, half of them over against Mount Gerizim, and half of them over against Mount Ebal, —as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded to bless the sons of Israel, first of all.
Und ganz Israel und seine Ältesten und Vorsteher und seine Richter standen an dieser und an jener Seite der Lade, den Priestern, den Leviten, gegenüber, welche die Lade des Bundes Jehovas trugen, der Fremdling wie der Eingeborene, die eine Hälfte gegen den Berg Gerisim hin und die andere Hälfte gegen den Berg Ebal hin, wie Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, im Anfang geboten hatte, das Volk Israel zu segnen. [O. geboten hatte, das Volk Israel im Anfang zu segnen]
34 And, after that, read he all the words of the law, the blessing and the cursing, —according to all that was written in the scroll of the law.
Und danach las er alle Worte des Gesetzes, den Segen und den Fluch, nach allem, was im Buche des Gesetzes geschrieben ist.
35 Them was not a word of all that Moses commanded, —which Joshua read not before all the convocation of Israel, with the women and the little ones, and the sojourner who was going on in their midst.
Es war kein Wort von allem, was Mose geboten hatte, das Josua nicht der ganzen Versammlung Israels vorlas, samt den Weibern und den Kindern und dem Fremdling, der in ihrer Mitte wandelte.
