Joshua 7
1 But the sons of Israel had committed an act of unfaithfulness in respect of what was devoted, —for Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah had taken of what was devoted, and the anger of Yahweh had kindled against the sons of Israel.
Sin embargo, los israelitas no habían sido fieles respecto a las cosas apartadas para el Señor. Acán había tomado algunas de ellas, lo cual hizo que el Señor se enojara mucho con los israelitas. Acán era hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá.
2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai which was beside Beth-aven on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them saying, Go up and spy out the land. So the men went up, and spied out Ai.
Josué envió hombres desde el campamento cerca de Jericó a la ciudad de Hai, que está cerca de Bet-avén, al este de Bet-el. “Vayan y exploren la tierra”, les dijo. Así que fueron y exploraron alrededor de Hai.
3 And they returned unto Joshua and said unto him—Let not all the people go up, about two thousand men or three thousand men, can go up and smite Ai, —do not weary the whole people to go thither, for, but few, they are.
Cuando regresaron, le dijeron a Josué: “No necesitamos a todo el ejército. Dos o tres mil hombres serán suficientes para atacar la ciudad de Hai. No te molestes en enviarlos a todos, pues sólo hay unos pocos”.
4 There went up thither of the people therefore, about three thousand men, —but they fled before the men of Ai.
Así que alrededor de tres mil hombres fueron a luchar, pero fueron golpeados por los hombres de Hai y tuvieron que irse huyendo.
5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty-six men, and pursued them before the gate as far as the Shebarim, and smote them on the slope, —so that the heart of the people melted and became as water.
Los hombres de Hai mataron a unos treinta y seis de ellos, persiguiendo a los israelitas desde la puerta del pueblo hasta que fueron derrotados, matándolos mientras descendían. Los israelitas se asustaron y perdieron todo su espíritu para luchar.
6 Then Joshua rent his clothes and fell upon his face to the earth before the ark of Yahweh until the evening, he and the elders of Israel, —and they lifted up dust upon their heads.
Entonces Josué rasgó sus ropas y cayó de bruces al suelo delante del Arca del Señor hasta la noche. Los ancianos hicieron lo mismo, y él y los ancianos se echaron polvo en la cabeza.
7 And Joshua said—Alas! My Lord Yahweh! Wherefore hast thou, brought, this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorite to destroy us? Would then we had been content to dwell on the other side of the Jordan!
Josué gritó: “¿Por qué, oh por qué, Señor Dios, nos trajiste al otro lado del río Jordán sólo para entregarnos a los amorreos para que nos destruyan? ¡Deberíamos habernos conformado con quedarnos al otro lado del Jordán!
8 Oh My Lord, —what shall I say, after Israel have turned their backs before their enemies?
Perdona, Señor, pero ¿qué puedo decir ahora que Israel ha dado la espalda y ha huido de sus enemigos?
9 Only let the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land hear, and they will surround us, and cut off our name out of the earth, —what then wilt thou do for thy great name?
Los cananeos y todos los que viven en la tierra vendrán y nos rodearán y nos aniquilarán tan completamente que incluso nuestro nombre será olvidado. ¿Y qué pasará con tu gran nombre?”
10 And Yahweh said unto Joshua—Get thee up! wherefore is it that thou art lying upon thy face?
Pero el Señor le respondió a Josué: “¡Levántate! ¿Qué crees que haces acostado sobre tu rostro de esa manera?
11 Israel hath sinned, yea moreover they have transgressed my covenant which I commanded them, —yea moreover they have taken of what was devoted, yea moreover they have stolen, yea moreover they have dissembled, yea moreover they have put it among their own goods.
Israel ha pecado y ha quebrantado mi acuerdo, el cual les ordené cumplir. Se han llevado algunas de las cosas que me habían apartado; han actuado con deshonestidad; han escondido los objetos robados junto con sus propias pertenencias.
12 Therefore cannot the sons of Israel stand before their enemies, their back, do they turn before their enemies, because they have become devoted, —I will no more be with you, except ye destroy the devoted thing out of your midst.
Por eso los israelitas no pueden hacer frente a sus enemigos. Por eso dan la espalda y huyen de sus enemigos, y han sido apartados para la destrucción. No podrán hacer frente a sus enemigos hasta que no hayan quitado de entre ustedes lascosas apartadas para la destrucción.
13 Up! hallow the people, and thou shalt say, Hallow yourselves by to-morrow, —for, Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel: A devoted thing, is in the midst of thee O Israel, Thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye have put away the devoted thing out of your midst.
Levántate y asegúrate de que el pueblo esté puro. Diles: ‘Purifíquense para mañana, porque así lo dice el Señor, el Dios de Israel: Hay cosas reservadas para mí que están escondidas entre ustedes, pueblo de Israel. No podrán enfrentarse a sus enemigos hasta que tales cosas sean eliminadas por completo.
14 Therefore shall ye be brought near in the morning by your tribes, —and it shall be that—the tribe which Yahweh shall seize, shall come near, by families, and the family which Yahweh shall seize, shall come near, by households, and the household which Yahweh shall seize, shall come near, man by man;
Por la mañana, te presentarás, tribu por tribu. La tribu que elija el Señor se presentará clan por clan. El clan que el Señor elija se presentará familia por familia. La familia que el Señor elija se presentará hombre por hombre.
15 and it shall be, that—He that is seized with the devoted thing, shall be burned with fire, he and all that he hath, —because he hath transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he hath wrought impiety in Israel.
El que sea sorprendido en posesión de lo que fue apartado para la destrucción, será quemado con fuego, junto con todo lo que es suyo, porque rompió el acuerdo del Señor y cometió un acto terrible en Israel’”.
16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes, —and, the tribe of Judah, was seized;
Josué se levantó temprano a la mañana siguiente y llamó a Israel al frente, tribu por tribu.
17 and he brought near the family of Judah, and, the family of the Zarhites, was seized, —and he brought near the family of the Zarhites, man by man, and, Zabdi, was seized;
La tribu de Judá fue elegida. Los clanes de Judá se presentaron y los zerahitas fueron elegidos. El clan de los zerahitas se presentó y se eligió a la familia de Zabdi.
18 and he brought near his household, man by man, —and, Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was seized.
La familia de Zabdi se presentó, y Acán, hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá, fue elegido.
19 And Joshua said unto Achan—My son give I pray thee glory unto Yahweh God of Israel and make to him confession, —and tell me I pray thee what thou hast done, do not hide it from me.
Entonces Josué le dijo a Acán: “Hijo mío, honra a Jehová, el Dios de Israel, y confiesa. Dime lo que has hecho. No me lo ocultes”.
20 And Achan answered Joshua and said, —Of a truth, I, have sinned against Yahweh God of Israel, and, thus and thus, have I done:
“¡Es verdad!” respondió Acán. “He pecado contra el Señor, el Dios de Israel. Yo lo he hecho.
21 When I saw among the spoil a certain goodly mantle of Babylonia and two hundred shekels of silver and a certain wedge of gold—fifty shekels the weight thereof, then I coveted them, then I took them, —and, there they are, hid in the earth, in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
A Entre el botín vi un hermoso manto de Babilonia, doscientos siclos de plata y un lingote de oro que pesaba cincuenta siclos. En realidad deseaba tenerlos, así que los tomé. Están escondidos en el suelo dentro de mi tienda, con la plata enterrada más profundamente”.
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent, —and, there it was, hid in his tent, and, the silver, under it.
Josué envió hombres que corrieron a revisar la tienda. Encontraron lo que estaba escondido, con la plata enterrada aún más profundamente.
23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them in unto Joshua, and unto all the sons of Israel, —and poured them out before Yahweh.
Los hombres sacaron las cosas de la tienda y se las llevaron a Josué y a todos los israelitas. Allí las extendieron ante el Señor.
24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan—son of Zerah, and the silver and the mantle and the wedge of gold, and his sons and his daughters, and his oxen and his asses and his sheep and his tent, and all that he had, and brought them up the valley of Achor.
Entonces Josué, con todos los israelitas, tomó a Acán, hijo de Zera, la plata, el manto y el lingote de oro, junto con sus hijos e hijas, su ganado, sus asnos, sus ovejas y su tienda – todo lo que tenía – ylos llevó al valle de Acor.
25 And Joshua said—Why hast thou troubled us? Yahweh, will trouble thee, this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them up with fire, and covered them with stones;
Entonces Josué dijo a Acán: “¿Por qué nos has traído tantos problemas? Hoy el Señor te traerá problemas”. Todos los israelitas apedrearon a Acán. Luego, cuando apedrearon a los demás, quemaron sus cuerpos.
26 yea they raised over him a great heap of stones [which remaineth] until this day. And Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger, —for which cause, hath the name of that place been called—The Valley of Achor, until this day.
Colocaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras que aún perdura. El Señor ya no estaba enojado. Por eso el lugar fue llamado el Valle de Acor desde entonces.
