Joshua 24
1 And Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel, unto Shechem, —and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and they presented themselves before God.
Og Josva samlet alle Israels stammer i Sikem; og han kalte til sig Israels eldste og dets høvdinger og dets dommere og dets tilsynsmenn, og de trådte frem for Guds åsyn.
2 Then said Joshua unto all the people—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Beyond the River, dwelt your fathers from age-past times, [unto] Terah, father of Abraham, and father of Nahor, —and they served other gods.
Og Josva sa til hele folket: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: På hinside elven bodde fordum eders fedre, blandt dem Tarah, Abrahams og Nakors far, og de dyrket fremmede guder.
3 So I took your father, Abraham, from beyond the River, and led him through all the land of Canaan, —and multiplied his seed, and gave unto him, Isaac;
Og jeg tok eders far Abraham fra hin side elven og lot ham vandre om i hele Kana'ans land; og jeg gjorde hans ætt tallrik og gav ham Isak.
4 and gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau, —and gave unto Esau, Mount Seir, to possess it, but, Jacob and his sons, went down into Egypt.
Og Isak gav jeg Jakob og Esau, og jeg gav Esau Se'ir-fjellene til eie; men Jakob og hans barn drog ned til Egypten.
5 Then sent I Moses and Aaron, and plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in their midst, and, afterwards, brought you forth.
Siden sendte jeg Moses og Aron, og jeg slo Egypten med plager, således som I vet jeg gjorde der; og derefter førte jeg eder ut.
6 Yea I brought forth your fathers, out of Egypt, and ye came unto the sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers, with chariots and with horsemen, unto the Red Sea.
Da jeg nu førte eders fedre ut av Egypten, kom I til havet; men egypterne forfulgte eders fedre med vogner og hestfolk til det Røde Hav.
7 So they made outcry unto Yahweh, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought in upon them the sea, and covered them, —and your eyes beheld what I did with the Egyptians. And, when ye had remained in the desert many days,
Da ropte de til Herren, og han satte et mørke mellem eder og egypterne og lot havet slå sammen over dem, så det skjulte dem; med egne øine så I hvad jeg gjorde i Egypten. Siden bodde I en lang tid i ørkenen.
8 then I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who were dwelling over the Jordan, and they fought with you, —then delivered I them into your hand, and ye took possession of their land, so I destroyed them from before you.
Så førte jeg eder inn i amorittenes land, de som bodde på hin side Jordan; de førte krig mot eder, men jeg gav dem i eders hånd, så I tok deres land i eie, og jeg utryddet dem for eder.
9 Then rose up Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, and made war with Israel, —and sent and called for Balaam son of Beor, to curse you;
Da stod Balak, Sippors sønn, Moabs konge, op og stred mot Israel; og han sendte bud efter Bileam, Beors sønn, forat han skulde forbanne eder.
10 but I was not willing to hearken unto Balaam, —so, he kept on blessing, you, and I rescued you out of his hand.
Men jeg vilde ikke høre på Bileam, og han måtte velsigne eder, og jeg frelste eder av hans hånd.
11 Then passed ye over the Jordan, and came in unto Jericho, and, when they would have made war with you—even the lords of Jericho—the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, then delivered I them into your hand.
Så gikk I over Jordan og kom til Jeriko, og innbyggerne i Jeriko stred mot eder, likeså amorittene og ferisittene og kana'anittene og hetittene og girgasittene, hevittene og jebusittene. Og jeg gav dem i eders hånd.
12 And I sent before you the hornet, which drave them out from before you, the two kings of the Amorites, —not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
Og jeg sendte hvepser foran eder, og de drev dem ut for eder likesom også begge amoritter-kongene; det var ikke med ditt sverd og ikke ned din bue de blev drevet ut.
13 Thus I gave unto you a land on which thou hadst not laboured, and cities which ye had not built, and ye proceeded to dwell therein, —of vineyards and oliveyards, which ye planted not, ye are eating.
Og jeg gav eder et land som du ikke har hatt møie med, og byer som I ikke har bygget, og I bosatte eder i dem; I eter av vingårder og oljetrær som I ikke har plantet.
14 Now, therefore, revere ye Yahweh, and serve him, in sincerity and in truth, —and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Yahweh.
Så frykt nu Herren og tjen ham i opriktighet og troskap, og skill eder av med de guder som eders fedre dyrket på hin side elven og i Egypten og tjen Herren!
15 But, if it be, a vexation, in your eyes, to serve Yahweh, choose ye for yourselves, to-day, whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served, that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye are dwelling, —but, I and my house, will serve Yahweh.
Men synes I ikke om å tjene Herren, så velg idag hvem I vil tjene, enten de guder eders fedre dyrket på hin side elven, eller amorittenes guder, i hvis land I bor! Men jeg og mitt hus vi vil tjene Herren.
16 Then responded the people, and said, Far be it from us, that we should forsake Yahweh, —to serve other gods;
Da svarte folket og sa: Det være langt fra oss å forlate Herren for å dyrke fremmede guder!
17 for, as for Yahweh our God, he, brought up both us and our fathers, out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants, —and who did before our eyes, these great signs, and preserved us throughout all the way wherein we journeyed, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed;
For Herren vår Gud han var det som førte oss og våre fedre op av Egyptens land, av trælehuset, og som gjorde disse store tegn for våre øine og voktet oss på hele den vei vi gikk, og blandt alle de folk hvis land vi drog igjennem,
18 then did Yahweh drive out all the peoples, even the Amorites were dwelling in the land, from before us, —we too, will serve Yahweh, for, he, is our God.
og Herren drev ut for oss alle disse folk og de amoritter som bodde i landet. Også vi vil tjene Herren, for han er vår Gud.
19 Then said Joshua unto the people—Ye cannot serve Yahweh, for, a holy God, he is, a jealous GOD, he is, he will not forgive your transgression, nor your sins.
Og Josva sa til folket: I kan ikke tjene Herren, for han er en hellig Gud. En nidkjær Gud er han; han vil ikke bære over med eders overtredelser og synder.
20 When ye forsake Yahweh, and serve the gods of a stranger, then will he turn, and inflict on you calamity, and consume you, after that he hath dealt well with you.
Når I forlater Herren og dyrker fremmede guder, da vil han vende sig bort og la det gå eder ille og tilintetgjøre eder, efterat han før har gjort vel mot eder.
21 But the people said unto Joshua, —Nay! but, Yahweh, will we serve.
Men folket sa til Josva: Nei, Herren vil vi tjene.
22 Then said Joshua unto the people—Witnesses, are ye, against yourselves, that, ye yourselves, have chosen you Yahweh, to serve him. And they said: Witnesses!
Da sa Josva til folket: Så er I da selv vidner imot eder at I har valgt Herren og vil tjene ham. De sa: Ja, det er vi vidner på!
23 Now, therefore, put ye away the gods of the stranger, that are in your midst, —and incline your heart unto Yahweh, God of Israel.
Josva sa: Så skill eder nu av med de fremmede guder som I har hos eder, og bøi eders hjerte til Herren, Israels Gud!
24 And the people said unto Joshua, —Yahweh our God, will we serve, and, unto his voice, will we hearken.
Og folket sa til Josva: Herren vår Gud vil vi tjene, og hans ord vil vi lyde.
25 So then Joshua solemnised a covenant for the people, on that day, —and set for them a statute and a regulation, in Shechem.
Den dag gjorde Josva en pakt med folket i Sikem og satte lov og rett for dem.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the scroll of the law of God, —and took a great stone, and set it up there, under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Yahweh.
Og Josva skrev op disse ord i Guds lovbok; og han tok en stor sten og reiste den der under den ek som stod ved Herrens helligdom.
27 And Joshua said unto all the people—Lo! this stone, shall serve against us as a witness, for, it, hath heard all the sayings of Yahweh, which he hath spoken with us, —so shall it serve against you as a witness, lest ye should act deceptively against your God.
Og Josva sa til hele folket: Se, denne sten skal være et vidne mot oss, for den har hørt alle de ord som Herren har talt med oss; og den skal være et vidne mot eder, forat I ikke skal fornekte eders Gud.
28 And Joshua sent the people away, every man unto his inheritance.
Så lot Josva folket fare, hver til sin arvelodd.
29 And it came to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, died, being a hundred and ten years old.
Nogen tid efter dette døde Josva, Nuns sønn, Herrens tjener, hundre og ti år gammel.
30 And they buried him within the bounds of his own inheritance, in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash.
Og de begravde ham på hans arvelodds grunn i Timnat-Serah, som ligger i Efra'im-fjellene, nordenfor Ga'as-fjellet.
31 So then Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, —and all the days of the elders who prolonged their days after Joshua, and who had known all the work of Yahweh, which he had wrought for Israel.
Og Israel tjente Herren så lenge Josva levde, og så lenge alle de eldste levde som overlevde Josva, og som kjente til alle de gjerninger som Herren hadde gjort for Israel.
32 And, the bones of Joseph—which the sons of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in the portion of field, which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of money, —and they belonged unto the sons of Joseph, as an inheritance.
Og Josefs ben, som Israels barn hadde ført op fra Egypten, begravde de ved Sikem på det jordstykke som Jakob hadde kjøpt av Hemors, Sikems fars sønner for hundre kesitter; og Josefs barn fikk det til arvedel.
33 And, Eleazar son of Aaron, died, —and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him, in the hill country of Ephraim.
Og Eleasar, Arons sønn, døde, og de begravde ham på den haug som hans sønn Pinehas hadde fått i Efra'im-fjellene.
