Joshua 22
1 Then, called Joshua—for the Reubenites, and for the Gadites, —and for the half tribe of Manasseh;
Josué appela les Rubénites, les Gadites et la demi-tribu de Manassé,
2 and said unto them, Ye, have observed all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, —and have hearkened unto my voice, in all that I commanded you:
et leur dit: « Vous avez observé tout ce que Moïse, serviteur de Yahvé, vous a prescrit, et vous avez écouté ma voix dans tout ce que je vous ai commandé.
3 ye have not forsaken your brethren, these many days, unto this day, —but have kept the charge of the commandment of Yahweh your God.
Vous n'avez pas quitté vos frères depuis tant de jours jusqu'à ce jour, mais vous avez observé le commandement de l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
4 Now, therefore, that Yahweh your God hath given rest unto your brethren, according as he spake unto them, —now, therefore, turn ye and get you to your homes within the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave unto you, over the Jordan.
Maintenant, l'Éternel, ton Dieu, a donné du repos à tes frères, comme il le leur avait dit. Maintenant, retourne et va dans tes tentes, dans le pays que tu possèdes et que Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, t'a donné au-delà du Jourdain.
5 Only, take ye diligent heed, to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you—to love Yahweh your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, —and to serve him—with all your heart, and with all your soul.
Prends seulement garde de mettre en pratique le commandement et la loi que Moïse, serviteur de Yahvé, t'a prescrits, d'aimer Yahvé ton Dieu, de marcher dans toutes ses voies, de garder ses commandements, de t'attacher à lui et de le servir de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme. »
6 So Joshua blessed them, —and sent them away, and they took their journey unto their homes.
Et Josué les bénit, et les renvoya; et ils s'en allèrent dans leurs tentes.
7 Now, unto the [one] half tribe of Manesseh, had Moses given a possession in Bashan, and, unto the [other] half, did Joshua give possession with their brethren, over the Jordan, westward, —moreover also, when Joshua sent them away unto their homes, he blessed them,
Moïse avait donné à l'une des demi-tribus de Manassé un héritage en Basan; mais Josué donna à l'autre moitié un héritage parmi leurs frères, au-delà du Jourdain, vers l'occident. Lorsque Josué les renvoya dans leurs tentes, il les bénit,
8 and spake unto them, saying—With much wealth, return ye unto your homes, even with very much cattle, with silver and with gold, and with copper and with iron, and with very much raiment, —divide ye the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.
et leur parla ainsi: « Retournez dans vos tentes avec beaucoup de richesses, avec beaucoup de bétail, avec de l'argent, de l'or, du bronze, du fer, et avec beaucoup de vêtements. Partagez le butin de vos ennemis avec vos frères. »
9 So the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh. returned and departed from the sons of Israel, from Shiloh, which was in the land of Canaan, —to go unto the land of Gilead, unto the land of their possession, wherein they had received their possessions, at the bidding of Yahweh by the hand of Moses.
Les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé s'en retournèrent et quittèrent les enfants d'Israël de Silo, qui est dans le pays de Canaan, pour aller au pays de Galaad, dans le pays qui leur appartenait, selon le commandement de l'Éternel par Moïse.
10 And, when they came into the circles of the Jordan, which were in the land of Canaan, —then did the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh build there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of large dimensions,
Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent dans la région proche du Jourdain, c'est-à-dire dans le pays de Canaan, les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé construisirent un autel près du Jourdain, un grand autel à contempler.
11 And the sons of Israel heard say, —Lo! the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in front of the land of Canaan, in the circles of the Jordan, in the region opposite the sons of Israel.
Les enfants d'Israël entendirent ceci: « Voici que les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé ont bâti un autel le long de la frontière du pays de Canaan, dans la région du Jourdain, du côté des enfants d'Israël. »
12 And, when the sons of Israel heard, all the assembly of the sons of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.
Lorsque les enfants d'Israël l'apprirent, toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël se rassembla à Silo, pour monter contre eux en guerre.
13 And the sons of Israel sent unto the sons of Reuben and unto the sons of Gad and unto the half tribe of Manasseh, within the land of Gilead, —Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest;
Les enfants d'Israël envoyèrent aux fils de Ruben, aux fils de Gad et à la demi-tribu de Manassé, dans le pays de Galaad, Phinées, fils du sacrificateur Éléazar.
14 and ten princes with him, one prince of an ancestral house for each of the tribes of Israel, —they being, severally heads of their ancestral houses, among the thousands of Israel.
Il avait avec lui dix princes, un prince d'une maison paternelle pour chacune des tribus d'Israël, et ils étaient chacun à la tête de leur maison paternelle parmi les milliers d'Israël.
15 So they came in unto the sons of Reuben and unto the sons of Gad and unto the half tribe of Manasseh, within the land of Gilead, —and spake with them, saying:
Ils allèrent vers les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé, au pays de Galaad, et ils leur parlèrent ainsi:
16 Thus, say all the assembly of Yahweh—What is this act of treachery which ye have committed against the God of Israel, that ye should turn back, to-day, from following Yahweh, —in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel, to-day, against Yahweh?
« Toute l'assemblée de l'Éternel dit: Quelle faute avez-vous commise contre le Dieu d'Israël, en vous détournant aujourd'hui de l'Éternel, en vous construisant un autel, pour vous révolter aujourd'hui contre l'Éternel?
17 Too little for us, was the iniquity of Peor, from which we have not cleansed ourselves, unto this day, —although the plague came upon the assembly of Yahweh;
L'iniquité de Péor est-elle trop légère pour nous, dont nous ne nous sommes pas purifiés jusqu'à ce jour, bien qu'une plaie ait frappé la congrégation de l'Éternel,
18 but that, ye, must turn back to-day from following Yahweh, —though it must needs be that, if, ye, rebel to-day against Yahweh, then, to-morrow, with all the assembly of Israel, will he be wroth?
pour que vous vous détourniez aujourd'hui de l'Éternel? Puisque vous vous rebellez aujourd'hui contre l'Éternel, il s'irritera demain contre toute la congrégation d'Israël.
19 Howbeit, if, unclean, be the land of your possession, do ye on your part come over into the land of the possession of Yahweh, where abideth the habitation of Yahweh, and take your possession in our midst, —but, against Yahweh, do not rebel, nor, against us, rebel, by building yourselves an altar apart from the altar of Yahweh our God.
Mais si le pays de votre propriété est impur, passez dans le pays de la propriété de l'Éternel, où habite le tabernacle de l'Éternel, et prenez possession au milieu de nous; mais ne vous révoltez pas contre l'Éternel, et ne vous révoltez pas contre nous, en bâtissant un autel autre que l'autel de l'Éternel, notre Dieu.
20 Did not, Achan son of Zerah, commit an act of treachery, with a devoted thing, and, upon all the assembly of Israel, came wrath, —so that not, he—one man alone, died in his iniquity.
Acan, fils de Zérah, n'a-t-il pas commis une faute dans la chose dévouée, et la colère n'est-elle pas tombée sur toute la congrégation d'Israël? Cet homme n'a pas péri seul dans son iniquité.'"
21 Then responded the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh, —and spake unto the heads of the thousands of Israel:
Alors les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé prirent la parole et dirent aux chefs des milliers d'Israéliens:
22 El-Elohim-Yahweh, El-Elohim-Yahweh, he knoweth, and, Israel, he, shall know, —if in rebellion, or if in treachery, against Yahweh, do not save us this day:
« Le Puissant, Dieu, Yahvé, le Puissant, Dieu, Yahvé, il le sait, et Israël le saura: si c'est par rébellion, ou par infidélité à Yahvé (ne nous sauve pas aujourd'hui),
23 that we should build for ourselves an altar, to turn back from following Yahweh, —or, if that we might cause to go up thereon ascending-sacrifice or meal-offering, or if that we might offer thereon peace-offerings, let Yahweh himself require it;
que nous nous sommes bâti un autel pour nous détourner de Yahvé, ou si c'est pour offrir un holocauste ou une offrande, ou si c'est pour offrir des sacrifices d'actions de grâces, que Yahvé lui-même le demande.
24 if, indeed, we have not, rather, out of anxiety and of purpose, done this thing, saying, —. In time to come, your sons might speak to our sons, saying, What have ye to do with Yahweh, God of Israel;
Si nous n'avons pas agi ainsi, c'est pour une raison précise: « Dans l'avenir, vos enfants pourront parler à nos enfants en disant: « Qu'avez-vous à faire avec Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël?
25 seeing that, a boundary, hath Yahweh put between us and you, ye sons of Reuben and ye sons of Gad—even the Jordan, ye have no portion in Yahweh, —so might your sons cause our sons, to cease from revering Yahweh.
Car Yahvé a fait du Jourdain une frontière entre nous et vous, enfants de Ruben et enfants de Gad. Vous n'avez pas de part dans Yahvé. »'' Ainsi vos enfants pourraient amener nos enfants à cesser de craindre Yahvé.
26 We said, therefore, Let us prepare, we pray you, to build us an altar, —not for ascending-offering, nor for sacrifice;
Nous avons donc dit: « Préparons-nous à nous bâtir un autel, non pour des holocaustes ou des sacrifices,
27 but that, a witness, it may be between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we are to do the service of Yahweh, before him, with our ascending-offerings and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings, —that your sons may not say, in time to come, to our sons, Ye have no portion in Yahweh.
mais comme témoin entre nous et vous, et entre nos générations après nous, pour accomplir devant lui le service de l'Éternel par nos holocaustes, nos sacrifices et nos sacrifices d'actions de grâces, afin que vos enfants ne disent pas un jour à nos enfants: « Vous n'avez pas de part à l'Éternel ».
28 Therefore said we, And it shall be, when they [so] say to us, or to our generations, in time to come, —that we will say—Behold ye the pattern of the altar of Yahweh, which our fathers made, not for ascending-offerings nor for sacrifice, but that, a witness, it might be between us and you.
« C'est pourquoi nous avons dit: « Lorsqu'on nous le dira, à nous ou à nos descendants, dans l'avenir, nous dirons: « Voici le modèle de l'autel de Yahvé, que nos pères ont construit, non pour l'holocauste ou le sacrifice, mais comme témoin entre nous et vous ».
29 Far be it from us—that we should rebel against Yahweh, or turn back, to-day, from following Yahweh, by building an altar, for ascending-offering, or meal-offering or for sacrifice, —other than the altar of Yahweh our God, which is before his habitation.
« Loin de nous l'idée de nous révolter contre Yahvé et de nous détourner aujourd'hui de Yahvé pour construire un autel pour des holocaustes, des offrandes ou des sacrifices, en dehors de l'autel de Yahvé, notre Dieu, qui est devant sa tente! »
30 And, when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the assembly, even the heads of the thousands of Israel who were with him, heard the words which the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the sons of Manasseh spake, then was it well-pleasing in their eyes.
Le sacrificateur Phinées et les chefs de l'assemblée, les chefs des milliers d'Israélites qui étaient avec lui, entendirent les paroles que prononcèrent les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad et les fils de Manassé, et cela leur plut.
31 And Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said unto the sons of Reuben and unto the sons of Gad and unto the sons of Manasseh—To-day, we know that, in our midst, is Yahweh, in that ye have not committed, against Yahweh, this act of treachery, —now, have ye rescued the sons of Israel out of the hand of Yahweh.
Phinées, fils du prêtre Éléazar, dit aux fils de Ruben, aux fils de Gad et aux fils de Manassé: « Nous savons aujourd'hui que l'Éternel est au milieu de nous, car vous n'avez pas commis cette faute contre l'Éternel. Maintenant, vous avez délivré les enfants d'Israël de la main de l'Éternel. »
32 So Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest and the princes returned from the sons of Reuben and from the sons of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, unto the sons of Israel, —and brought them back word.
Phinées, fils du prêtre Éléazar, et les princes, revinrent des fils de Ruben et des fils de Gad, du pays de Galaad au pays de Canaan, vers les enfants d'Israël, et leur rapportèrent la parole.
33 And the thing was well-pleasing in the eyes of the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel blessed God, —and spake not of going up against them, to war, to lay waste the land, wherein the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad dwelt.
La chose plut aux enfants d'Israël; et les enfants d'Israël bénirent Dieu, et ne parlèrent plus de monter contre eux pour faire la guerre et détruire le pays où habitaient les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad.
34 So the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad named the altar [a Witness]: A witness, it is between us, That, Yahweh, is God.
Les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad donnèrent à l'autel le nom de « Témoin entre nous que Yahvé est Dieu ».
